Went there for the first time last Friday. The owner of the place was very polite and very nice and very patient unfortunately the food was not what I thought it would be as everybody would say. I ordered a rib plate with side of potato salad, and the cornbread. The ribs are big butt when I bit into a certain part of the ribs it was all fat Plus the barbecue sauce is too vinegary for me I like a sweet BBQ sauce plus I like a barbecue sauce that has a little sticky texture to it. Then I tried potato salad. OMG no celery no onions very Bland. The cornbread I just couldnt get into. for the money I should have went to Everett and Jones. thats my own opinion.

I came out from LA and my boyfriend, his mom took me out to eat. They picked this place, told me the food there was great! The food was great. My boyfriend and I walked in 1st and the 2 women inside were looking at us funny. Hes looking at the menu on the right and the lady taking orders made a snarky comment like we couldnt afford what was on that menu. At this point, I want nothing. My boyfriend mom comes in and we were taking some time to choose what we wanted you can tell their patience were running thin. We finally got our food but they wanted 2 stay and eat. One lady said I was a retard I act as if I didnt hear. My 1st time there lol never again.

I liked every about this place. Small spot, but has seating inside and out back. Everyone was very friendly, the owner started a conversation with me right when I walked in the door and recommended a couple good dishes. I got a brisket sandwich that he sliced right in front of me and was incredibly tender, and the cheesy rice as the side, which was almost as good as the sandwich. A friend also recommended I try their homemade pies, so I got a piece of pecan pie and I wasnt disappointed. Overall, I thought the food both tasted better and was more affordable than other BBQ restaurants in the area. This is my go-to BBQ spot from now on.

2nd time picking up food order for delivery here. The cockey eyed sister with the bad attitude actually TRIED to roll her good eye at me. WHY? Because I requested that a tray of brisket, a rib dinner and two containers of pecan pie be placed in a bag! I do not transport UNBAGGED food in my insulated delivery bag. WTF? My insulated bag gets soiled and I smell bbq all night? Not to mention that every subsequent order will smell like bbq. Like what? All those loose containers rolling around in my bag? In my car? And then pull up for delivery and actually hand the customer 4 containers out of my car window? NOT! People are spending

Wow. I think any BBQ joint that tea-smokes salmon is special. Thus, this is a special place! The chicken and pulled pork were also excellent and are the side dishes. If you want a special bbq treat that is different from the same old, same old, Smoke Berkeley is a great place and its run by wonderful people. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but keep in mind this isnt McDonalds or Jack in the Box. They are making this wonderful stuff by hand and in a smoker, so it takes a little longer...and its well worth the wait. Enjoy!

Its Texan BBQ w/ a vinegar style sauce, the smoke on the pulled pork and brisket is good. On the day I tried the ribs, it could use a little more time but they were well seasoned. Thanks Smoke, I will return! Main: Excellent pulled pork and brisket. Sides: if you like spicy (not hot) try the Mexican corn bread and the cheesy jalapeño rice, boom! the kick ass corn salad was awesome. Dessert: havent tried em yet but the chocolate pie and sweet potato pie sound good. Update... ding ding, they are good.

The food was delicious until my tongue went numb. We ordered mild, but if that was mild Lord have mercy on the poor soul that orders hot. The ribs, chicken, and SC pulled pork were slathered in sauce and good but my favorite, if for only a second, was the baked beans. They were sweeter than molasses and subtly flavored with peppers from the third ring of hell. My own breath burned my lips as we were leaving. All in all a great place, but not for the faint of heart.

Great customer service, however I expected much better. I ordered the 1lb BBQ, half chicken half ribs. The ribs were decent, however the chicken was dry and had a foul sour taste. Moreover, the BBQ sauce was extremely sour itself. As for the sides, they were pretty good. Overall, I would not recommend. Also I got food poisoning the following night. Someone call Gordon Ramsey and the Kitchen Nightmares crew, because they need some help.

My wife said her favorite food was ribs. I heard about this place and decided to try it. Called and got Tina. What a delight. Bottom line the food was great. The people working there were super friendly. The cheesy rice can be trouble, you will get addicted, and the Mac and cheese was out of this world. I drove in from Walnut Creek and will do it again and again. All who were at the party agreed. One of the best.

I left BPG and my nose carried me down San Pablo a block or so to Smoke Berkeley. It was a smell that I could taste, and I had to have some. When I turned into the family owned shop the music made me smile, the people made me laugh, and the menu made my mouth water. The ribs, sliders, sides and service were impeccable. I dont believe in God, but I believe in this food.

Realllly good BBQ. I have the pulled pork and the wife had the brisket. Both excellent. Their hot bbq sauce is actually quite hot! I would prob get medium next time. The cheesy rice was one of the best sides Ive ever had in my life. The collard greens came with a huge piece of pork shoulder in it which was pretty awesome (unless youre vegetarian :) ).

Finally good brisket in the bay area. Loved everything the table ordered. The setting is casual with and outdoor seating area as well as some inside seats. The staff were great. All super friendly and helpful. They cave us some brussel sprouts to try, as if we needed one more thing to love...they were, of course, amazing.

Drove all the way from Walnut Creek in anticipation of a great Soul Food meal. It was obvious that the ladies running the place just wanted to go home. Ribs cooked beautifully, sweet potato pie: one of the worst Ive ever tasted...the picture of which successfully lured me from home to make the trip. Disappointing!

Smoke Berkeley has an extremely homey ambience. The portions are large and the food has a delicious Southern taste similar to the food that my grandmother (from Oklahoma), used to make. It also has a small, but cozy outdoor seating area in the back.
