The pizza here is excellent. The service unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired. On a Friday, I called in a pizza at 4pm for a 6pm pickup. Arrived at 6 to pick it up and the line was out the door. Another customer told me that she was told by the staff last time when she ordered ahead that she could go ahead to the counter. I proceeded to the counter and was told pretty directly by the woman there that there was only one line. Ok. The line was about fifteen people long, and I did order ahead 2 hours ago and now my pizza is getting cold, but I sort of understand. (Years ago, I worked in pizza and I know it can be really hard work.) For the next 20 minutes, I stand in line waiting for my pizza, arriving at 6:30. When I finally(!) get to the counter, another gentleman comes up, having skipped the line to pick up his pre-ordered pizza. The woman who told me earlier to get back in line, hands him his order and lets him pay in front of me. After I stood in line for 20 minutes. Great. Gioia, I have other good pizza options in the area and I think Ill be giving my business to them instead.

Unless you plan on ordering a whole pizza, dont expect anything freshly made - even when a pizza is fresh from the oven, the person wont give you a slice from the fresh pizza until all the pieces from the old one are gone - by that time, nothings fresh. Theyll reheat it for you in the oven, and if theyre in a hurry, itll be too short to make the crust crispy again, so youll get a mostly soggy crust. The flavors are ok and at one point, this place probably used to be good. The people behind the counter simply didnt seem like they cared about customer service. If you want reheated old pizza at $3 a slice with poor service, come here, otherwise buy a fresh slice from somewhere else.

Food looks amazing, however lacks in flavor. No special orders unless you have a food allergy in which case they will remove toppings Customer service was lacking, a step above rude. The food display case didnt look the best, and the pies all looked a little dried out and over cooked. We requested they not cook our pie crazy long and what we got was a flat out undercooked pizza. The counter woman even suggested we microwave the pizza when we got back to Also, I kid you not there was a bee in the display case lol

Minimum card charge is $5 im so annoyed I had to buy an additional $2 sarsaparilla soda that may or may not have caffeine. I regretfully purchased my premade slice of Julian pizza that was truly one slice in hope that I could at least use there rest room. Still hungry after my toddler size slice. Now I have to find some to pee. Its not the pizzas fault. Just not the cozy place I had expected for the price.

In my opinion this is the best pizza in the east bay. I love the pizza here, simple high quality thin slice New York style pizza. I love the staff. I go here as often as I can. Sitting at the counter is my therapy.

NY pie, thin crust, fat slice, great sauce. Simple ingredients/topping. A must have when your in the Eastbay. Cant decide whos better. Rotten City pizza or Gioias. Youll have to figure it out for yourself

The best pizza in Berkeley, if not the bay area. The ingredients are fresh, the crusty a perfect thickness, the sauce well made, the right amount of cheese (not to soft with cheese oil), and great prices.

remains the best pizza in town. the hole-in-the-wall style adds to the charm. just grab a seat on the bench or neighboring stores and enjoy. good chance of interaction with some of the friendly locals.

Solid New York style pizza place. They have the classics you expect plus more interesting flavors like squash with blue cheese. Its no Cheese Board, but if you need pizza on a Monday, head to Gioia.

I never leave ratings but this place has really good NY style pizza! Cooked just right and burnt on the bottom. I just moved in the neighborhood from Chicago and I critique hard on the Pizzas.

this spot is pretty awesome, and good location for polk. Julians pizza is the best, and good for groups. I was surprised the brunch too was as good as it was...

Neighborhood shop. Really small spot for standing room only. Grab a slice or pie to go. Limited street parking. Great thin slices with quality toppings.

Almost as crispy as I like my pizza, the unique topping never fail to please. Something for everyone, and the owner never fails to say hello.

One of the closest to a NYC slice you can get in Berkeley. BIG pies, floppy pie, crunch crust. Not too oily either. Cannolli are legit.

Some of the best pizza in the east bay. Fresh toppings on thin crust pizza. Their dough and ingredients are tasty perfect.

Pizza is great, but they dont do split pies, and sometimes the website specials dont match what they give you.
