Newest review: I keep coming back because I live right around the corner and Im glad I did. They have really figured it out. The pizza has always been good, but the policies make sense now. They also threw a community block party, which I thought was clever, but also exactly what small neighborhood places should be doing. Adding a new review: I have lowered to one star. Its 9:30pm on a Friday and they are closed. Its like they get paid to make sure the place goes under. Slightly older review: The new owners have ruined this place. One size pizzas, light on toppings. And today, two pizza minimum for delivery. When you get busy, dont treat your base customers like garbage. Pizza is still okay, but go elsewhere so they sell it to someone who cares. They should just move to SF where you dont need to care about the locals. Below is my old review - this place used to be great: The pizza is really good, great value, lots of toppings. Where they really win is in customer service. They get it right every time and their delivery guys are super friendly. I just hurt my knee and couldnt come down my stairs. No problem, they brought it up into my house.

Theres a new pizza maker in the leaning tower, and Kabamm shazammm Issac is fantasgormic! Pizza crust much thinner, pies are much more mellenium menu/ foodie cuisine andtruly amazing. Theyve upped the prices, family style feel is gone but the ingredients and choices kind of demand it. I would scream "gentrification" but the Sqaush salad was so good, and the delivery guy so polite that I just cant. Besides - the old guy who was here for 30 years moved in at the same age the new guy Issac is now... change is good in this case, though the menu now is strictly pizza pie and salads. He is pretty serious about his specials, do not ask him to change them (Think Arizmindi) or add different ingredients. Really - try these guys, theyre good without being pretentious and devoted to making great pizza.

The new guys running the place have, despite comments otherwise, completely turned this place around. Before it was... Meh. The guy who ran it was really nice, but the pizzas were not that great. I had one that I felt was like a Red Baron... It felt like he had been doing it forever and was just done. He decided to move on. In step the new guys. Hand tossed pizza. Their own yeast and dough. Make their own bacon. Smaller menu with high quality ingredients and interesting pizzas (Try the pear). Competively priced for what you get, in the same league as Lanesplitters but a little less and, in my opinion, better. They do deliver, but I am not sure if there is a minimum order. Full pies and half pies are available. Slices sometimes, but it is better to get a pie fresh.

Driving by your eyes may misinform as they take in a partial view of stacked pizza boxes and a sign that says "slice and a soda". Inside you are welcomed by a loft like space with wall length murals, candelabras hanging from exposed rafters and lots of space for you and the friends you made at the lake. Instead of a sweaty faced potbellied guy named Vic asking you what you want, you are informed by the waiter of front of all the options...salads, pies, 1/2 pies...err, whah? Yes they serve your customized meatlovers or any other combination by the 1/2..While you wait there is a stack of games(we played uno, jenga and battleship) and a lonely upright piano (far back left corner Stevie) The pizza and salad were delish...the service very good. Worth the walk. :)

The leaning Tower is a Lake Merritt institution. It has become 100x better with Isaac and his crew at the helm. After seeing how he turned their cafe down the street into a complete success, I knew they would be able to make something very special out of this classic pizza spot. The space has got great character, exposed trusses and a brick facade, inside a simple interior with high ceilings, murals, and the best staff. Right when you walk in youll smell what Isaac had been whipping up, a completely new dough recipe, and fresh ingredients make this pizza so good. Its the perfect pie to take to the Lake or back to the Casa. If you can handle the heat, try the spicy pepper pie!

Great pizza (we tried the pepperoni, margarita and the veggie one) and beer during happy hour. Sausage roasted pepper pizza rocks as well!!! Tad expensive though :(. This place is literally 1 min from our house but its a little expensive for our budget, but happy hour deal is not bad! Love the design (outside and inside) of the place and the staff is very friendly and young!

Their pizza is very good, but I was disappointed once with the Caesar Salad. Instead of romaine lettuce, it was done with really BITTER greens. Yuck. Never again. Also. If they are going to open later (like 5pbsitem that 4pm they have posted on their open door today, August 4th ), they shouldnt have 3pm on their website. Was just there and disappointed AGAIN.

I always order pizzas from here, its a great neighborhood pizza place, and though there is nothing particularly special about the pizza, it is reliably good and tasty. I like to get the California Special myself. The location is nice, with a cute building and a mural of Italy on the side.

Great lasagna and bread. You can taste the fresh ingredients and purity in the lasagna. Good food for vegetarians and meat eaters! Nice atmosphere in a quaint neighborhood up the hill from Lake Merritt. The decor is not modern, but historical. Will have to try the pizzas next!

From out of town and love this place. We ordered a half of the hot pepper pie and half of the mushroom. Im not a big veggie eater, but these were so unique that you just have to try them. Awesome people, amazing and helpful service. Ill be going back again next time Im in Oakland.

Really tasty pizza, might be my favorite ever. Get the Roasted Pepper, very flavorful. Prices are a bit expensive but they are handcrafted and definitely worth it. Right by Lake Merritt so you can order a pizza to go and have a picnic on the grass by the water.

One of the better options in the east bay. Both red and white pizzas are very well done. Great crust and seasoning. Friendly folks.

Im an East Coast pizza snob. Leaning Towers pizza is as good as or better than any Philly or NYC pizza shop! Thin crispy crust!
