First, I am hangry and POed writing this. I would not want to attempt to eat the food again at South Kelly Grill if it was the last food on earth. Yes, dramatic, but wait, I will explain. We arrived on a Saturday around 11:30 am, they were packed, evidenced by the full parking lot. Great, they must be good! We went in and had about a 15 minute wait to be seated. They did seat two tops out of order, forgivable, but they also had no signup list either. They sat two two tops in rapid succession and maybe three minutes later sat us and another two top. They then sat a group of seven. By the time we got our food, the two two tops seated before us had come and gone. The two top seated after us got their food before us as well at the group of seven. We asked about our food and was told it would be right out. We had already been waiting over an hour. The waitress did not ask me what kind of potatoes I wanted, nor what kind of toast my husband wanted. When we did finally get our food, it was inedible. I ordered the Crab Egg Benedict. The eggs were completely hard and the hollandaise sauce was cold, not room temperature, it was cold. I sent it back. I wasnt paying $14.00 for cold sauce and hard eggs. I told my husband to go ahead and eat his meal, I would wait. They asked me if I wanted something else, no, I wasnt waiting any more time to eat. My husband ordered the Black and Bleu omelette. The toast he got was dry and chewy. The omelette had something in it that had the most foul taste he couldnt eat and I spit out the bite I had. The foul taste stayed with me until I got home and brushed my teeth. The meat in the omelette was was over-cooked, dry and looked like something you would eat on the trail in an old western. I am not sure what was so foul tasting in the omelette, could have been the meat or the mushrooms. I am uncertain that if my husband had actually eaten the omelette that he wouldnt have suffered later. Their excuse for everything was we have three new people in the kitchen. So? That is no excuse for letting food that disgusting leave the window. At no time did they ask what they could do to make it right, they just kept parroting about the new employees in the kitchen. While this place is still rather new, they have been open several months and should have the kinks worked out. However, I am not sure the issues with my food were all the fault of the kitchen in that it certainly could have come from not getting the food out to the table by letting it sit too long in the window. But the foul taste was certainly not the waitresses fault. My husband is an Executive Chef and I am a pretty good cook myself. We have had some pretty mediocre food in and around Vallejo and American Canyon, but there has never been any food we simply couldnt or wouldnt eat because it was so unpalatable. We know our expectations are probably higher than most people, but this was the worst food we have ever had. The worst. Dennys in Vallejo is a much better choice for consistency and flavor.

This was the worst meal ever. I have over 30 years experience as an Executive Chef and this was the worst experience ever. We waited 15 minutes for a table and when seated, things were going ok. My wife ordered the Crab Benedict and I ordered the Black and Blue omelet. It took over an hour to get our order and we observed other parties that were seated after us get their food first. When we finally were served, my wifes eggs were like rubber and way overcooked, and the hollandaise was ice cold, she rejected the plate without even eating a bite it was so disgusting and all she got was excuses and never asked how they could make it right. I tried my potatoes first and they were barely lukewarm. Then I tried my omelet, again barely warm, the second bite of the omelet produced the most disgusting piece of meat I have ever put in my mouth, charred, burnt with a nasty off flavor, it sure wasnt steak thats for sure, again only excuses, no apologies or any attempt to make things right. If this were my kitchen I would have thrown a fit and fired anybody even remotely connected to this meal. I understand that sometimes things go south in the middle of a busy service but this was inexcusable. Needless to say we will never ever go back. I would suggest that the owner take ownership for this and ensure that nobody else ever has this bad of an experience again.

This is a great old locals diner under new ownership so they kept the good parts of the old restaurant and improved a lot of the not so good stuff from before. Got a new name and look and the menu is great. I had breakfast there today had some really good biscuits and gravy. And my bf said the bacon was perfect. Will continue to be one of my favorite breakfast and lunch places around.

Really friendly atmosphere, good variety of food and not in a crowded location. I would definitely recommend this place to collage age people and tourists. My favorite dish is the biscuits and gravy.
