These reviews have to be fake. If you think this is the best sushi, then you havent had sushi! What chef mixes pickled cucumber with eel sauce and then spicy mayo (with eel, salmon and/or crab)??? Horrible flavor combo!! Which youd know to avoid if they actually provided a descriptive menu that ALL ingredients were included on. In their infinite wisdom they feel its best to bother their waitstaff asking whats in each roll. While theyre busy. Expecting them to remember each detail. Accurately. And the customer too. Thats setup for disappointment. Only reason we didnt send 3 rolls back was because we didnt want our very sweet server to get reprimanded. Also wishing to skip the long wait. Which wouldnt have been so long if the sushi chef just handed us our plates instead of setting them down for 5 minutes where we could drool over them, but not reach them. Instead, we had to wait for the waitress to pick up the plates and move them 18". If not less. Thats the other thing, Ive eaten sushi for 25 years, love sitting at the sushi bar and joking with the chef, enjoying personality, and making up our own rolls to try. Not this guy. Zip for personality. Sorry. If you want to increase revenue, provide menus with detailed descriptions of every roll (encourages sales while preventing food being sent back). Put some kid friendly dishes on your happy hour (itll draw in parents who dont want the hassle and want a quick healthy meal). Have a soup and salad combo that makes sense finically. And encourage your sushi chef to engage in conversation and some personality. Sincerely, A restaurant consultant

Ive been to restaurant about 6 or 7 times since it opened and have mixed feelings about this place. Having moved to AZ from CA, I was used to having good Japanese food for decent prices. The food is pretty good. All of the dishes were well prepared, using fresh ingredients. I have 2 specific complaints about the restaurant. One, for non sushi bar items, the menu is overpriced, especially at lunch. I have been to many Japanese restaurants in Scottsdale and Mesa which charge about a third less for comparable dishes. My second complaint is the lack of consistency of service I have experienced. I have had excellent service there twice, very poor service 3 times and the rest was ok. The staff doesnt always understand Japanese food. If I could have lunch for under $15.00 (with tax and tip) and could be assured of decent service, I probably would go to this restaurant at least once a week. As it now stands, its about once or twice a year.

Absolutely Amazing service! I go to this place quite regularly. This service is always great but one night stands out to me because of how exceptional the service was. My boyfriend and I were there for a dinner and katana was pretty busy. Because it was so busy it took a little bit longer for them to prepare our food. To compensate they brought us over a complementary appetizer and the special (complementary as well). Afterwards our food came out which was amazing as always and then they brought us our bill and green tea ice cream to apologize again. It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend this restaurant:)

What a gem in Fountain Hills! I am so glad I found this place. I was house sitting for my brother and just driving around looking for a place to grab a bite. I love sushi so I stopped and wow, I was not disappointed! The place is clean, cozy and unassuming. The staff was professional and attentive. The fish is fresh and of excellent quality (I eat a lot of sushi!) The chef and owner, BK, is also fantastic and very personable.. one time there and I already know his name! Let him make a few of his favs for you and you are sure to be delighted.

Being from Southern California I would have to say we are quite connoisseurs of sushi...and this spot is on PAR with some of the finest I have been to. The Miso Soup is top notch, service is excellent and the variety of rolls and quality is amazing. I can honestly say that we LOVE this place! I was not sure what a sushi place would be like in Fountain Hills, AZ but this exceeds all expectations and then some. We frequent it as often as possible! A must try!

I have been craving sushi for some time and this place was right across the street...and thank goodness it was! The sushi ingredients are so fresh, they almost melt in your mouth. The ginger dressing is very authentic. The staff is very friendly and down-to-earth while the atmosphere is very laid back with an eclectic array of music. I will definitely be back soon!

The place has CHANGED! And for the good. The lunch special is AWESOME... $10.00 REALLY. The owner and his family are so friendly and I have brought in many new customers that ALL love it too. Sushi in Fountain Hills?!?!? No way! Yes and it is great. Thank you John "new owner" for making this one of our favorite spots each week.

I havent had a chance to eat at the place but I do order for takeout. The food is magnificent! I had the California roll, calamari roll, avocado roll, and shrimp tempura and they all are so good. Perfectly made. I almost eat takeout from them everyday. I almost want to try their entire menu if just that little bit was that darn good

I recently moved to Fountain Hills and was happy to see a sushi restaurant was right across the street. I was even more pleased after eating there. Great service, comfortable atmosphere, and (most importantly) the sushi was fantastic. As others have stated, BK is very personable and makes you want to come back.

If you love sushi, you MUST try this place. We have tried many places in AZ, ROKA, RA, other smaller spots, but Katana really is the best. The dragon roll, octoberfest roll, and the sushimi are outstanding. If youre a beginner - go for the Cali roll. You will not be disappointed

This is by far the best sushi Ive had in Arizona, and is just as good as the best sushi I have had in coastal areas. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is cozy but clean. Check out their lunch special, very reasonable prices for quite a lot of food.

The food is fantastic and the service is wonderful! They can be busy at times and I can see why. Not everything is sushi so for those who do not like sushi, other delicious options are definitely worthy to try!

Great Baked Salmon Roll. This seems to be the only place where I can get this unique roll. Not a bad place overall. Wish they gave you a little more for the money. I would suggest this place to friends.
