Like Coos Bay, there are so many quaint little places where you can get a good meal. Momiji is another one. From first glance, you may be deceived. Its not the most appealing to the eyes. It could use a little makeover, keeping things clean, carpets swept, bussing tray out of sight. And this is why its important: The one thing that people care about when eating sushi is "is the fish fresh and clean?" And some people will be hesitant to eat in a place where there are crumbs on the floor, and its in a little disarray. I get hunches and trust my gut whether to overlook the these things or make a dash for the door. We stayed and ate today, and it was a good choice. This is one of the first places that the sushi chef wasnt Japanese. he appeared to be more of a surfer guy with features of a Polynesian or Hawaiian. He was very well trained, an absolute artist, and we loved it. he was meticulous of when and where to layer ingredient, and the flavors were fantastic. The only other thing was that they had on each table a tub of wasabi and a tub of ginger. I heard a client behind us complain to the wait staff about possible germs from previous clients. Looking at the chemistry (horseradish and vinegar as main ingredients in each, respectively), I would assume that germs cant survive in either environment (alkaline). Technically, I would have to double check on health implications of germ life from people who would double dip. But the point is, I understand what people could gripe about. I merely asked for a fresh dollop of both without making such a stink like the previous client did. The rolls were large and affordable. definitely a good value So I highly recommend it. I would only just recommend that the management look into sprucing up the decor, partitions, and ways to generally give a cleaner vibe to the dining area. The Chef does a great job. Dont undermine his talents by distracting people from the food only. Happy Dining!

I would think twice. I have sushi all over the U.S. due to traveling with my job. The photos on their menu do not depict even slightly resemble what I received. They have a happy hour twice a day. I ordered the seared tuna amd salmon roll which is $2.50 when you order a drink. I also ordered the mango roll and the crunch roll. I ordered seaweed salad which took 10 min to get to my table. I waited 30 min for the tuna. As you can see in the photo its a very thin slice of tuna. It had an odd flavor. The salmon was warm. Not room temp but slightly warm. Its supposed to be cold. The mango roll also has cucumber and cream cheese with soy paper. Im not sure you can see how sloppy this roll is. It was falling apart. Sushi is supposed to be made with a sense if pride. Come on, this is sad. I couldnt even pick a slice up without it falling apart. The Crunch roll. As you can see, is missing from the pic. Thats because my server, even though it was the first thing I ordered, did not put that part of my order in. She was kurt and Not friendly. To be fair to the resturant, the server with brown hair was on her game. The blonde girl acted like she could care less about doing a good job. When I was sitting there done with my mango roll, she walked by and said, Ill get your check in a moment. I said, umm, I ordered I Crunch roll. She said, oh, I forgot to put that in do you still want it. Me, yes unless its going to take another half hour. She walked away and brought me my check. My service was awful. The sushi was messy. The server was very slow and took my order but did not fill it all. If Im in the area again, I will avoid this place.

Momijis is the better option if you want Japanese food, but do not want sushi or nigiri. I am a regular there and eat there at least five to six times a week. My personal favorites are the Tonkatsu-don, the curry, and any of the soba noodle dishes. Although I never eat the sushi or nigiri, even though I like it, I havent heard complaints from any of the people that order it. People that complain probably do not have the stomach for raw fish, which some people do not. Know the risk. The staff is polite, even when customers are completely being asinine. They never close early like most places that close 15 - 30 minutes to the hour. Very friendly people. It is a quiet atmosphere with simple background music. The only time it gets bad is when rowdy individuals decide to be loud, and that is not very often and not a fault of the restaurant. As far as cost goes, it can be a little steep. The price point is high on some things and low on others. You still get what you pay for on non-sushi items.

This is the absolute worst sushi ever! Over fried katsu, and when the sushi came out it was lukewarm. Sent it back and was served chilled sushi. Worst mistake - we should have left - had food poisoning. When I have to point out the the server that the chef and I am using that term lightly --- should not be in the main dining room with his gloves on tapping away on his cellphone and then scratching his face is UNHYGIENIC- because he uses those to cut/assemble ingredients that we customers are to eat.....you know it isnt a good place. Go to Sumins. AVOID this place.

Worst service ever. The waitress named Kelsey was very rude and jabbed on about her very PERSONAL personal life (menstrual cycle) She didnt hang up our order for the first hour we were there so it was a total of 1 hour and 35 minutes before we got our food or drinks. There was two hairs on my plate and when I complained she simply removed the hairs with her bare hands and walked away. Our orders were all wrong. Not at all what we wanted. Then when we said we werent paying for the food we didnt ask for, she then told us to leave and never come back....

The food is always great when I come here! The sushi, teriyaki chicken, Japanese curry, its all good! There are a couple of drawbacks, though: Service can be slow. The staff doesnt always seem to be on the ball when it comes to seating people, and on one occasion I waited an hour to get my lunch. Ill just order take out next time I want lunch, otherwise I know better than to go here in a rush. Also, they never have mochi.

On vacation touring the Oregon coast, stopped in at Momiji Sushi Bar in Coos Bay... Amazing! Sushi was so fresh... salmon caught right here in Oregon, it melts in your mouth. They have real crab as opposed to imitation crab like Ive had at all the other sushi places. Loved the Shotgun roll, the lemon really sets off the salmon! Ill definitely stop by on my next trip up or down the coast!

The one thing that keeps me from rating this place 5 stars is that is not quite as affordable as i would prefer. (BUMMER) Otherwise??.. This place (if you like Japanese etc. ?), is basically to die for and borderline addictive!!.. Ugh. Now im hungry.... (GREAT. s.m.h.).... ~
