An (admittedly) stupid bad experience biased me with this place and now Ill never go back. I had been here before and thought the staff was perky and nice although the service wasnt the best. The food is okay. The prices are really unwarranted, though. Way overpriced, in my opinion. The last time I was there I had a breakfast sandwich with no meat (but added avocado), a slice of banana bread, a small orange juice and a latte, all to go and paid almost $25 (without tips). The banana bread was dry and the coffee was terrible. My bad experience - if you care to read on: I went in on Wednesday morning and forgot my umbrella. I called 7 minutes after leaving, when I realised on the subway and the guy that answered the phone said he had it. Asked for my name and my number and I said I would come by after work to pick it up. At 7.30pm it was pouring down so I took a taxi there to pick up my umbrella so I could then take the train and walk home without getting wet. I get there, and the umbrella isnt there, no one knows anything and they dont give a $#*%. The new girl tells me the day and night staff are different so maybe they put it somewhere she doesnt know so to call back the next day. I had to buy another umbrella so now Im down a taxi and a new umbrella. I called back today and got the same excuse and that "maybe someone had taken it". I know its only an umbrella, but Im really bothered by the fact that I called as soon as I realised and was told they would hold it for me, took down my name and my number. Why bother to do that if you just dont give a damn. A monumental waste of my time and my money. As I said, Im never going back.

It is a love and hate situation here. I wish I could rate it even higher but the long, non-sense line here during brunch is letting me down. For people waiting for a table and for people grabbing coffee and pastry to go, it is all the same long line. Also, you have to order your food first before you grab a table. So that explains why this line is long and really unnecessary. Yet, once you make it to the finish line, you would be very happy to be seated and enjoy the gigantic portion of food. We waited for a good 30 or so minutes in line. Finally, we got to order and i went for their Quesadillas and it is very delicious and big. I saved half of it to go. My friends had their hearty pancake and everything (sausage, eggs, bacon) and they absolutely love it. I like the coffee is also free refill here. The dishes here are reasonably priced. I believe my entree is $11. Since it is close to NYU, you see a lot of young students hanging here with their classmates or friends. It has a midwest cafe vibe, which is very different from typical New York modern look. I would come back again but i really hope they would improve their line efficiency here.

Heres my actual experience, but please note that however anecdotal it may be, it is not to be dismissed. I went there with a friend, who just wanted some coffee. I had already had my lunch in a bag, so I took it out to eat it. So, the owner comes over to me and says, "what are you doing?". I told him I was just eating my lunch. He continued to interrogate me (including the F-word) and basically said that I cant eat my lunch there. I calmly told him, My friend here has bought one of your coffees. Hes allowed to sit here, as he is one of your customers. Therefore, by proxy, I should likewise be allowed. He pretty much said no, and to get the _ out. We stormed out of the place remarking about how they treat customers and flipping them some birds to look at. My friend apologized to me right after as if he should have known that that would happen when I took out my tiny diet snapple, odwalla bar, and quaker oats mini rice cakes. He said hed never go there again. Bottom line, _ this place, _ the owner, and _ their business. I was starving, and that was a cheap 5 dollar (student) lunch. Have some _ing decency.

This is a low three stars as a coffee shop, and a high three stars as a restaurant. It was jammed and very loud with conversation on a summery Friday night at 600pm. Wood and brick decor. Local art and staff photos on wall, with a few notes of false nostalgia (wind-weathered wooden boards, fake antique metal ceilingl). I didnt guess it was a chain, though, until I saw the other reviews here. Real ducts and charming old school Xmas bulb strings. Candles in the evening. No laptops allowed during peak hours. No outlets. Didnt check for wi-fi. About 15 small tables. Excellent sandwiches, salads, and casual entrees. Very good chai latte they make in house. Very friendly and helpful staff with a peculiar bandana-based seating system that works in practice.

This seems like mostly a college place, but of course I did go around 9:30 pm. Very nice and helpful staff. It was dark and a little cramped but not uncomfortable. Of course, the bathroom smelled like urine and there was a stack of hi-chairs in the way of the hand dryer, BUT it did have chalkboard walls and chalk to draw on them...if youre into using communal chalk in the bathroom. Our bacon cheeseburger and fries cost us around $13 but it was delightful. They also have very sizable desserts, we tried the brownie with whipped cream and it was about $4. And we loved the playlist--sounded like my Summer Hits of the 90s Pandora station.

Had breakfast here this morning and it was delicious! The French toast was a little dry but, everything else was tasty. Theres one thing that really bothers me about this place though... They bring you your plate and take it away but thats it, you do everything other than that yourself. You order up front and take your coffee to your table. Once they bring you food you have to get up to get your own silverware and water. You feel obligated to tip because someone is making your food, bringing it to you, and taking it away. But, they really dont serve you. I dont know maybe its just me but, I wasnt a fan.

My favorite brunch spot in the city! Large portions, delicious, reasonable prices... especially if you want traditional breakfast/brunch! There will be lines if you come past 11 on the weekends. I usually order the grey dog breakfast with bacon and have tried both the pancakes or French toast, both delicious although the French toast comes with some fruit. This time I tried the fish tacos which was surprisingly delicious! I liked the chipotle mayo and the fish was very crispy. Ordered a pitcher of sangria which was a smaller size than expected but fills up 4 glasses.

First time at grey dog and I will be honest, it did not upset! The only reason I am giving it four stars (only because I like being waited on hand and foot lol) is because I felt like I had to fetch a lot of stuff for myself. Take for an example: water, which should be at the table before you get there but in this case I had to get up and walk to get my water. Not that big of a deal but nonetheless its my standard. Thats all! Food was pretty good. I had he Baha fish tacos.. Amazing!!!!! Will come here again!
