We started off on a bad foot. The sign out front declared "Free Appetizers During Happy Hour!" Plural. AppetizerS. But there was no selection; the only free app was a plate of nachos. The nachos actually turned out to be pretty tasty, though, so it could have been worse. We ordered margaritas, which were OK in the generic, pre-mixed, brand-name kind of way. And the salsa tasted like it was made with canned tomatoes instead of fresh. It also didnt help that the waiter didnt understand enough English to know what we were saying when we asked if nachos were our only choice for free appetizers. All-in-all, it felt like a Mexican restaurant that wasnt trying very hard to accomplish much of anything. Im not sure how Chapala established itself as the upper crust of Eugene Mexican food, but its definitely not a justly earned title.

Inviting decor, ambience, & comfortable spacious seating great for the whole family & solo diners. The menu has traditional and chef inspired fare; plus, specials like desserts - deep fried ice cream & ice cream nachos, latte & a full bar. The vegetarian enchiladas were excellent served with a pot of black beans & authentic brown rice. My date had tender chicken Enchiladas Verdes. The food was hot and excellent mid afternoon on Valentines day even though the staff was preparing for a busy night. Handicap accessible & off street parking.

I WANT to like Chapalas. Really I do. But I just cant seem to be impressed by any of the food Ive had here. The service has been decent most of the time (which explains the extra star), but the food hasnt ever been what I would call good, authentic Mexican food. Maybe my tastebuds have been swayed by having primo Mexican food joints surrounding me where I used to live, but regretfully, Chapalas doesnt even come close.

Love Chapalas. We go there way too much! Sometimes we try a different mexican restaurant in town, just to mix it up, and its almost never as good. Very affordable. If youre going for a good margarita however, you may be a bit disappointed. BUT...as far as food goes, i highly suggest checking this place out.

Food and drink at a high level of quality. Inventive menu. Several entrees, including steaks were world-class. All the employees seemed committed to excellent service. Quick to take you order and serve it professionally at your table. Nice place to take someone you want to impress-even its only yourself.

This restaurant opened when I was 4. Been going there since. Love it, a lot of the staff have been there years, and recognize me, and bring stuff I havent even asked for because they remember. Cesar and Nubia in particular always make my day. Great salsa and food. Please never stop existing Chapalas!

Let me start by saying that the server/service/food was great! I went with a group of friends and we did ask for separate checks and being a server myself i know how frustrating that can be. My only critique would be that i wasnt feeling well and i quietly asked the server at the end of our meal.

This place was totally disgusting. My husbands nachos tasted really old, and the ground beef on it tasted like scrapings off a grill. I got the fish tacos and the vegetables were moldy. Super gross. Just thinking about it I feel like Im going to throw up.
