Rare Bar & Grill is a consistently good dinner choice for my friends and me, especially when were craving a protein-dense meal. Burgers are fair for the price, creatively topped, and presented "neatly;" something you can get your mouth around without messing up your Saturday night outfit. Denise was our friendly server, and ran us though a shared lollipop wings appetizer and three entrees - A Jameson-flambeed ribeye burger, a bison burger, and a cowboy ribeye. All three were fantastic, and some burgers and steaks are offered with a discounted $5 premium shot to "back it up." Consider they include Jameson Black Barrel Reserve and Widow Jane whiskeys for the $5, and that a martini here will set you back $15-$17 and that $5 deal becomes even more appealing. Burgers were perfectly cooked to order, and my ground ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I called around 5pm on a Saturday night and had no trouble locking in a 7:30pm reservation same-day. By the time we were ready to pay our check, this place was PACKED though, so get here early, or call ahead!

Even on a Tuesday night, the lines are long by my consideration (say a dozen groups at the entrance) and the place was packed. But it wasnt that bad of a wait at all because I think the hostess does an excellence job where when a group a patron leaves, people waiting get seated quickly. Wait time was about 30-40 minutes. Depending on number You are The place is like a mid-sized wooden cafeteria with communal dining at bench table packed right next to others dining. Its busy. The Spicy Momofuko Ramen came out in a pretty big bowl, nicely hot. The soup base is good, flavorful yet not overly so. The Ramen is done well, has a bit of firmness yet goes well with soup base and what accompanies in the bowl. If I had to really give a sincere honest opinion I would say though all in all a good bowl of Ramen, its overpriced at $17 for something so basic. I guess its for the experience of being packed in and name sake. Gets my stamp of Over-priced but not necessarily my stamp of Over-hyped.

As an avid burger lover I was hoping to enjoy Rare a bit more than I did. I went for lunch with a group of co-workers. They have a fantastic lunch special - $11 for their classic burger and lunch deal - it seemed affordable and fun. However, all of our food ended up coming out at different times and a couple of our friends waited over a 1/2 hour. At that point most of us had nearly finished our plates. The manager came out to let us know that they had accidentally dropped our friends burger and had to make her a new one, which didnt seem like information we should by privy to, but then he told her he wouldnt charge her and we were content. Until the bill arrived and they DID end up charging her. Overall, it seemed a bit disorganized and although my burger was pretty good, it wasnt entirely worth the headache of what we ensured. I gave it 3 stars though since Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt! Perhaps Ill give them a 2nd chance in the future!

+ Delicious American fare, + Outstanding Ahi Burger, - noisy Since years rooftop bars are mushrooming everywhere in NYC. Amongst them is the Rare in Midtown at Lexington Ave with its sister restaurant in Chelsea. The Midtown restaurant is located on the first floor of Affina Shelburne Hotel and its bar on the hotel’s roof. I recommend spending the sunset or the waiting time for your table upstairs, enjoying a 270-degree view towards Empire State and Chrysler Building. Though the prices upstairs are extortionate and common practice in Manhattan the rooftop is a nice escape from the bustling city. Downstairs you will encounter a packed and loud restaurant but the waiting time and noise is worth it. The food is awesome and I highly recommend the rare Ahi filet in combination with the fries selection and all available dips. Talking about it, I immediately could return for dinner! Credit cards accepted!

Big but bland. I was staying at the hotel and the restaurant was convenient. I ordered the classis with a couple of extras. Nice 8oz. of beef cooked well, nice looking even but when I bit into I tasted my toppings, onions and unseasoned beef. For something that look that good, the taste was a let down. The fries didnt taste salted either. Maybe its a learning curve here but I would have expected the beef to have been seasoned with salt and pepper at least. Theres other more positive reviews here but they are for the more expensive burgers (double what I paid) so that might be the best choice if youre trying the food out.

The appetizer was great. Our first server said he would give us some time with the menus and then when we flagged himnover as our enus had been closed for 15 minutrs he asked if we had been served.. Which was surprising considering he was our waiter. A girl toomniver our table afteer we placed our order and she was great. We ordered burgers that were suppsoed to be marinated with a whiskey based sauce and what we received was a very dry, rgular beef patty that wasnt seasoned, so it lead me to believe the original waiter didnt take our order properly... And if he did - then thats a very plain overpriced burger.

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :) Drinks: Excellent. Food: Excellent. One of the best burgers I have had in the city! They offer an amazing array of specialty burgers based on type of beef. I highly recommend the Rare Rib-eye. Space: A very casual no nonsense bar/restaurant. The bar area is very pen and conducive to mixing and mingling. While the dining area is much more intimate. Good for get-togethers and date night. Crowd: late 20-40s Afterwork crowd. Pick-up scene. Mostly corporate types and professionals. Service: Excellent!

And this is a damn good burger. Creative burgers that manage to focus on the meat, not the toppings. A basket of fries is a great compliment (dont get any specialty fries! The portions are way too small). Large servings, reasonable prices and prompt service round out a filling meal. Slightly off color deserts deserts leave you feeling a bit queasy. Rare offers a decent beer selection. Rare does not accept reservations but wait time is mitigated by the rooftop bar which offers phenomenal ambiance in Midtown Manhattan

We came here because we were in the mood for burgers and this place did not disappoint! I had the organic burger with goat cheese and it was slightly toasted in top which was a nice touch. The parmesan truffle fries were to die for and the deep fried oreos made me feel like I was back at home in the Midwest! They were playing a lot of classic rock which was icing on the cake - totally felt at home. I was a little disappointed in the beer list, but Ill definitely be back for their rooftop!
