Im a Ramen fan and I have been trying different places in Manhattan. Ramen-ya definitely stands out. I dont know if it was because I was famished on a Friday late in the night, but I thought it was the BEST ramen I ever had in NY. I had the "black shio" and I can still remember all my senses in a frenzy, rejoicing with all elements in the bowl: soup is rightly hot with exquisite flavor but not too salty , pork steak is soft and melts in the mouth, and very importantly, noodle is perfectly "al dente". The egg was boiled to perfection with that orange-ish color, but on this note, all of the top Ramen places have them too. The other ingredients fit perfectly making my taste buds to relish. Even my olfactory receptor captured a soothing subtle bouquet... ok ok, there is no bouquet in a Ramen, but it felt like. Anyway, since I just went this one time, Im going today again to double check if it was just the hunger effect in my brain or if Ramen-ya will become my favorite japanese noodle joint.

Ive visited many of the ramen places in Manhattan over the past 6 months and I think this is one of my favorite place to go. Totto Ramen and Ippudo are the famous ones out there and theyre fine but I dont want to wait in line for 30 minutes and neither do I want to spend $20 for a ramen, which is why Ramen-Ya is great. Theres two locations, really close to each other so the line is not long (never had to wait actually). There are two type of noodles, chicken and pork flavored soup with different types of noodles (wavy yellow noodles and thin white noodles). You can interchange between the noodles if you like - just need to ask them. The broth is flavorful, lots of depth of flavor and noodles are well cooked. The meats is also cooked well but I wish the egg was more onsen style. The service is friendly and price reasonable. I come here if I just want a really good bowl of ramen noodles!

Ramen-ya is a small ramen shop in the West Village, a neighborhood that seriously lacks good ramen joints. Is it worth the trek here?--questionable, but if you need a quick bite and you’re already in the area, this is a fine spot to visit. They have a special abura soba (soupless ramen) that is akin to the mazemen served at Ivan Ramen and Yuji Ramen, but is much more traditional and heartier. As for the broth ramen, they offer tonkotsu and chicken broths based in shio black (salt and garlic oil), shoyu (soy sauce), or miso. For me personally, the shio black tonkotsu was light on the shio and tonkotsu flavor; the complexity was missing for me somehow, and the garlic oil was too overpowering. Many people seem to really enjoy the shio black, so maybe it’s just me.

Really, really good ramen. For a ramen joint thats fairly new, they serve up a mean bowl of ramen. Signature is the shio black, thin straight noodles in a Tonkotsu broth with chashu pork, kikurage mushrooms, seasoned egg, scallions, and black garlic oil. The black garlic oil is so good its addicting. Very aromatic (the garlic oil floats on top of your bowl in droplets) and makes the whole bowl better. Only $12 and for a dollar more, you can get the spicy option. Came here on a Friday afternoon around 2:30-3pm so it wasnt that crowded. There arent a ton of tables so theres probably a decent wait during peak hours. Staff were all very friendly though. Im making this my new ramen joint in NYC until I try some of the other spots. Sorry, Ippudo! Cash only!

The people who rate this place low because its small and there is usually a wait are obviously bad at reading, and living, and need to go elsewhere. This place has always been one of my favorite ramen places in the city. The shio black tonkotsu ramen with spicy sauce is my absolute favorite. Also, I have been on a keto (low carb high fat) diet for nearly half a year now and ramen is one of the things I miss dearly. I recently discovered that they will now serve all of their ramens with tofu-shirataki noodles at request. Thats right. Low-carb ramen. The texture takes some getting used to, but it is still super delicious. I love you guys. Thank you for making my life better.

This tiny shop has a nice and tasty selection of ramen and other Japanese sides to choose from. I think the best ramen they have is their tonkotsu miso ramen, mostly because of the incredibly good thin noodles they pair with the rich pork bone broth. The broth didnt feel overly fatty or salty, and the pork bone really shines through. I wasnt as impressed with the thick curly ramen noodles, which didnt hold the broth as well as the thin ones. The other food here is quite good, too. The okra gyoza was interesting and slimy (not necessarily in a bad way). I particularly appreciate the opportunity to order a small side of curry rice with my ramen to complete the indulgence.

Mediocre ramen. The place is weird. Outside the glass says "Beyond -- Thai Cuisine" or something. How confusing. We came in around 7:40 PM and the place was really empty. How do you not have a public restaurant, being that its a medium sized restaurant? Cannot offer alcoholic drinks and not have a bathroom hahaa. When we went to the original Ramen-Ya they told us to come to this location and gave us free beer coupons. Ive never been to the original, but maybe that place is still better. My ramen soup was really diluted and the pork tasted more like the Chinese Char-siu. Nothing exciting or to rave about. Probably wont come back here...

Great menu with both tonkotsu (pork) and paitan (chicken) broth, wavy and straight noodles, and interesting gyoza filling (e.g. okra, squid). Server was very friendly and quick. I tried the kale and wheat noodle substitute which had a decent texture. The cha siu were nice fatty rounds. My tonkotsu broth was too salty to consume separately from the slight coating it formed on my noodles. I like the look of the spoons, but these bowls are nothing spectacular. Will return again to try the miso and paitan.

Super small, expect a wait with nowhere to stand but outside. Pork gyoza (spicy) were really well done. The black shia was good, I felt the pork was the star. The broth was a little mild for me, not very rich and kind of low on the flavor scale. It was good for $13 but not something Id consider a destination. The noodles were thin and not overcooked, thats important for me! Three stars overall because the seating is exceptionally cramped and generally uncomfortable, the ramen was mediocre.

I was skeptical about this place because of the reviews but we really didnt want to wait in a one hour line to possibly get a bar seat next door. The other places we had seen on help that were highly rated had been hits but with bad service. We walked in and there was no wait! The waiter was awesome and gave suggestions! The ramen was fantastic!! I usually only like certain ramen places in New York but this is my new favorite place in NY ! I will be back!

I came here in December 2014 and was disappointed by the ramen. While I am no expert in ramen, I frequently dinned in Terakawa Ramen next to Baruch College. Their ramen contained many ingredients and the broth was thick in delightfully filling. I ordered the pork ramen which I thought would be thick like my previous experience and found it to be "watery". The appetizer which was pork gayoza was also flavorless.
