My friends have all been to Lucien before- too many times to count on all fingers and even toes... None of them could believe Id not been there, they were all practically part of the furniture! I told them I had an reason- my art took me away from my home in the the city way too often for way too long. Every time our group of friends made plans to go for dinner there I had always been seconded away to some random location for work. Last tuesday was the first time that didnt happen. Can I just say, I cant believe it took this long for me to go there! Wow, Lucien was exactly what Id been craving all this time- It was like being in their living room, the atmosphere was so great- with all my friends by my side, a drink constantly in my hand, with one reaching the table just when I would need it and the food was absolute heaven.. Must try the Filet Mignon au Poivre, one of the dishes theyre so well known for, No wonder people have been coming here for so long. No confusion ever again about where I go now when Im in town. Lucien is a diamond in the ruff so to speak, there are so many interesting layers to that spot that its inspiring. Just the fact that it really is an artists haven in the true sense. It has that magic that the East Village was always oh so popular and famous for. Not to be missed!!!

POOR service, these people disgust me!!!! We waited 2 HOURS to be seated, when we were asked to wait only 15 minutes. And every time we checked back on seating status, we were told it would take another couple of minutes. Not only that, we were charged twice on our credit card, and when we called to rectify the mistake, we were told "we are not here to rob you. Call after two days when the accountant can help you." This was the response after our third call to them to request to reverse the dual transaction. There are enough nice restaurants in New York where you can pay $200 and get better service, and be treated nice. What good is the food, if it leaves this bad a taste in your mouth.

This place is absolutely terrible. I think its funny that people on here think it "pays to be a regular", like its so great to get someone at a french restaurant to be halfway polite to you. Sorry, but I dont care about your french food if youre going to have an attitude with me. The waitstaff here is terrible. We walked in and were immediately scolded and told to sit at the bar and wait. They act all pompous like theyre so special, and youre SO LUCKY to be in their french restaurant. No thanks, your food sucks. Never coming back. Lots of better restaurants in the neighborhood. Also, way way way over priced food.

My number one favorite dish in all five boroughs of NYC, Canard aux Figues et Navets, is served at this restaurant. The prices and portions are very fair compared to other comparable French spots. They also have a great wine selection, and though Ive never ordered an entree other than the duck for myself, Ive never tasted any appetizer, dessert, or dining partners entree at Lucien that wasnt a 10 out of 10. Their cappuccino is also perfect.

Adieu Lucien! This iconic French bistrot we all used to love has vanished. Reservation for 8 not on the list, bottle on the house finally on the check, lots of contempt. Obviously, the art of running a venerable restaurant, of taking care of clients and of perpetuating a unique ambiance is not a matter of blood heritage nor genetics. And the son of Lucien Bahaj will promptly ruin an institution that my friends and I will avoid from now on.

Best French onion soup so far Rendezvoused hear with one of my best mates who I had not seen for two years. First best thing - Kronenburg beer available (my favourite French beer). I had not eaten much and it was late afternoon - but the French onion soup was amazing. So much so I had it the next two days in a row. Staff were great - friendly, attentive and a little cheeky which was fun.

Escargot and Foie Gras were great. Very underwhelmed by the steak frites that everyone seems to like. The butter sauce was great but the meat was bland, dry, and generally mediocre. No match for sous vide steak thats seared over high heat. Wife had the bronzini which was very tasty. Interior decor reminded friends who had been to Paris of Paris. Tasteful and well done.

Very cute bistro-style vibe with a good selection of beer and nibbles. I remember the staff here being super friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is lowkey but still lively, and does not have that jarring and echoing loudness in many restaurants during the peak evening hours. Will definitely be back here another night.

Lucien or his son Zack are always in the place and stop at every table to chat, that school feel. The food is superb, try the rabbit in a mustard sauce and dont forget to get a bowl of the pepper sauce to dip your bread in, its like crack and youll be stuffed before your dinner comes !!!!!!!!!!

Staying at LES, came across this great restaurant with a friend, had rabbit, duck & liver pate (flawless), would recommend to other friends travelling from Australia, one of my favorites in last 4 weeks whilst here in NY, service was just right, comfortable & relaxed. Thankyou

An old time neighborhood jewel for the trendiest and cosmopolitan crowd. This French bistrot serves traditional dishes in a typical atmosphere for great prices. Father and son insure to make the experience with them a unique one with an incredible service and attention.

The filet mignon actually is really really good and the sauce that goes with it is indeed very delicious. With that said, do I think its worth $48? Not so sure. Its a very interesting, chill french bistro atmosphere. However, the menu was really quite expensive.

excellent, flavorsome french food, terrific wine, and warm, friendly atmosphere. the restaurant is dark and cozy, meaning it seats up to 50 at a squeeze, and can get quite warm especially with a full service. make a reservation - its worth it.

YUM. Love it here. Always tastes great. Never had a horrible experience. If they ask you to get up when youre idling after dinner theyll offer you a drink at the bar :)
