Good food, terrible service........We were very excited when Han dynasty opened on the upper west side, finally bringing good and reasonably priced Chinese food to the area. We have dined at the restaurant a couple of times and ordered take out from there several times. Recently, the delivery service has deteriorated significantly. On at least the last 5 occasions we ordered from there, they have failed to fulfill a simple request - add a side of hot chili oil. As such, every time our order was delivered we would either have to forego an important component of our meal or call the restaurant and wait an additional 15 minutes for the issue to be rectified. Things came to a head last night when we included several requests and reminders within our order for said chili oil and it was again forgotten. I called the restaurant and spoke to a manager who apologized profusely and 15 minutes later we got several sides of chili oil. We then settled down to eat only to discover that the 2 sides of brown rice which we paid for were not included in our order. We do not eat white rice and we had to cook our own brown rice in order to complement the other dishes. I was livid at this time and my wife called back to the restaurant and spoke to the manager again who proceeded to offer a paltry refund of $2.18 for the brown rice that was missing. No further courtesies, 10% off your next order or something. Not even an offer to send over the brown rice! Customer service does not get much worse. Needless to say, we will not be ordering from there ever again. Time to head back to Shun Lee.

This place is the 911 BOMB we have been searching for and never seem to be able to find. How many times have I asked for "hot and spicy" and have gotten Americanized spicing and not the real deal. Located south of downtown its easy parking compared to Prince Street area. Its like the burbs....The place is still spotless and the servers friendly and bi-lingual which is a plus. We ordered Dan-Dan Noodle w/chile & Minced Pork in a wonderful hot and spicy red oil and Dumpling in Red Chili Sauce...even hotter and tastier than the DD Noodles. For mains we started with Mapo Tofu, delicious squares of Tofu in a wonderful sauce that was actually tasty without being killer hot. The killer of the meal was Braised Sliced Lamb with Roasted chili...This was the hottest thing we ever experienced. The Lamb was coated with hot hot chili and was delicious but melted my fillings! For a real Szechuan meal HLY fills the bill. If you want to experience something really special go to work on their menu and try as many things as you can. you will be in pain but its soooo gooood! BTW, I gave HLY 5 stars because its outstanding Szechuan compared to the other similar restaurants....And, its Clean!

Want Dan Dan noodles? Go to the East Village location. Ive been coming to this Han Dynasty since their soft opening, and it seems the chef here doesnt know how to properly make them. Whatever the reason, theyre better in the downtown location. Now that weve got that out of the way: For me, experiencing insanely spicy peppers is a religious experience. Are you a spice enthusiast? Ask the staff if they have any special peppers on hand. One time I was lucky[1] enough to score a Carolina reaper. Even if they dont have anything in stock, just let the staff know if you love your food hot. I had the tasting menu here several times, with mixed results[2]. Stick to the regular menu, which is more dependable. My favorites? The double-cooked lamb, with a side of a chili oil cucumbers. The cucumbers come out sweet here, but theyre a treat. Sit at the bar for best results. Thanks to bartender Dave for keeping me out of trouble and pouring me good pours. [1] Some would say. [2] If you come out for these tastings, youll probably get to meet Han!

The atmosphere feels like a great dining place, waiters were kind and helpful. And thats pretty much all I can say thats good. First, not sure if the reception desk - but high school or college students were clearly rude. With their casual remarks about Chinese people, its ridiculous because they work in a Chinese-themed restaurant. They even failed to get my name so I could be placed onto the wait list. Second, unnecessary waiting times. We (only 2) saw multiple tables being empty & cleaned/organized and were told that it would take 30 minute wait. Several people who came in after us - immediately got their tables (I even ask another couple if they reserved a table or waited before us, the man told me they just dropped by). The Chinese food is awful like an expensive Panda Express. Disappointed by the proclaimed "Sichuan-style" label. At best, just an Americanized Chinese fast food joint.

I went here just today because my family and I are on a road trip and we stopped to get something to eat. This restaurant is really amazing. It is nice, spacious, and quiet. The waiters are really nice and respectful. The food is pretty good and everyone really enjoyed it. The tables are pretty set and they give you chopsticks and forks and knives if you would like. Whenever someone needed something, the waiter got it for us really quick with no problems. Our food did not take long either. When we ordered food, it only took 7-10 minutes but we came in a time period where there wasnt much people but we are still really shocked since where we come from the restaurants still take long without that many. Our waiter was Simon and he is really great and respectful. He gave a prompt service so that i am thankful for. I would definitely recommend here.

I wouldnt encourage my worst enemy to eat here. The only thing that is worst than their totally aweful and lacking in taste food that was excessively seasoned with pepper and served in a pool of oil that seemed expired is the customer service. The waiter had an attitude the entire time, and ironically was not in the mood to serve. He was very ill-mannered, and seemingly was having a bad day his entire life. Between forgetting to bring us our food and delivering to us food from other tables, he somehow managed to forget to give us cutlery, sauces and other side dishes. If food is served in hell this is without a doubt a replica of Satans special. Resulting from this terrible terrible experience I may never eat out again.

Honestly it was BAD. Way over priced. The wonton soup was blaned and lacking of flavor. The broth was nothing but "discolored water". I use this term because it tasted like water. zero flavor. The pork dumplings also had no flavor. Which they tried to hide by throwing a mountain of red pepper on. Which seems like something a child who messed up cooking would do. To add; all the "chinese food classics", they did not have. to include fried wings or egg rolls. and to add insult to injury, I thought a 40 dollar meal would at least warrant some sort of white rice compliments of the house. so..... LG beef lo mein. Two spring rolls. Pork dumplings. wonton soup. $40. No complimentary rice. overall: NEVER AGAIN!! Good luck

Based on reviews we decided to try Han Dynasty since we were in the area on Labor Day. Unfortunately the food and service fell flat. We waited about 35 minutes before our entrees came out. The 2 tables next to us sat, ate and paid and left before we got our food. The servers were nice and they kept telling us our food was on the way but it still took waaaay too long. The general manager came out and apologized and comped. some items from the bill. The food was ok. Chicken in garlic sauce (good) chicken in scallion sauce (ok) Dan Dan Noodles (spicy and flavorful) Fried Dumplings (not fully fried, not recommended) Unfortunately Im not able to recommend this place.
