Well Ill start by saying that I have been going to this restaurant for about 20 years since i was a child and it used to be called First Wok.. I loveddd this place and was extremely upset when it closed about a year and a half ago for some time but it later reopened as Wok 88... The food was always good but the service was never great. The workers tend to be kinda rude but never, NEVER like what i experienced today!!! I went with my mom and my 2 kids.. We sat down and started to order.. so far so good.. After about 10 minutes my son, who is 1, started to cry while i was taking out his bottle. First, one of the hostesses came to check on him, after 1 minute.. and she began by telling me that she was checking to see if he was ok because his crying was ANNOYING.. when she saw me give him the bottle she retreated.. he dropped it and began to cry again for another minute.. she came back to see what was wrong now and basically asked us to leave because he was bothering the other customers.. I looked around and found that the other customers were as surprised as i was to be asked to leave bc my child cried for a minute... After 20 years of patronage i was Horrified!!!!!! they continued by telling me that they didnt need my business and the hostess decided to try to push me out the door while i was trying to leave!! Let me just say that had it not been for my 2 babies, she might have been thrown half way across the room.. It pains me to say.. DONT GO THERE!!! They are rude and if u have kids, or a wheelchair they will not be accomodating at all!!

I lived around the block from the original Wok On First when it opened in the early 1980s. The last time we are there, my then-girlfriend (now wife of 31 years) and I walked out, along with several other patrons, after we found a cockroach in an egg roll. But hey, that was 33 years ago and my daughter ls now living in the same neighborhood. So I figured that, if they survived all these years, it had to be pretty good by now. Right? Wrong. 1) The person who took my order over the phone had (to put it as tactfully as I can...) some difficulties with the English language and, it turned out, sent the delivery person to an address two blocks away. To add insult-to-injury, the delivery guy blamed me for this. I dont think its asking too much of a local for delivery restaurant to write down delivery instructions accurately. 2) At least in part, I judge a Chinese restaurant by the quality of their dumplings, and theirs were over-cooked and tough as shoe leather. Next to one other Chinese restaurant located in Manhattan (whose name will remain unmentioned ), they were the worst Ive had in 15 years and worse than dumplings I had at Wok on First in 1983. Prosperity Dumplings this place is not. The main dish, Gen. Tsos Chicken, was mediocre and over-cooked. Think "bag of frozen General Tsos in freezer case at Stop & Shop". This review, it seems, has been 33 years in the making. Better late than never. Caveat Emptor.

A step more then your average Chinese take out place, theres decent dine in area as well. Dont expect over the top service since its a very fast paced place wheres expected from you to leave when youre done with your food. Im not saying staff is rude or anything, on the contrary! They are absolutely nice and professional and will treat you great! Just this combination of dine in/take out place dictates a different type of service then a regular restaurant. Now the food is actually the best part! Besides being really delicious, there is a vast selection of dishes which are pretty straight forward for a Chinese place. Dont expect any experiments, just really tasty Chinese food and a lot of it per dish. Youll come out of this place pleasantly full. Lunch menu is scarce version of full menu, but prices are amazing! You can find dishes for 7$ coming with soup or egg roll. Definitely recommend this as your on the way to go place! Visiting Metropolitan? Its a 10 minute walk and youll get a great dinner after all day at Met.

Busy restaurant with adequate food and sizable portions. I have tried coming here a couple of times since moving across the street about 3 months ago. Surprisingly, last night was the first time I was able to be seated for dinner. This place always seems to be busy, which is great to see for any small local business. Portions were family-sized so my lady and I split the general tso chicken and beef lo mein. The waiter promptly took our order and reminded us that we got a free soda with our meal, which was nice. The food was good. The general tso chicken was on par with most places Ive tried in the area, and the beef lo mein was enjoyable. There were more than enough leftovers so getting two meals for the price of one is always a plus. I would come back for another meal, but Im not certain its worth a significant wait to sit at the restaurant.

Ive been coming to this place for a while and the food has always been great....but this very last time I came, I ended up getting foodborn illness (food poisoning). Morover, my boyfriend asked to take his food with him, but they made a mistake and threw it out. Then they said they will comp us with a new order of sesame chicken, we waited for the order about 20 minutes, then the boss came out, had a korean argument with our waiter and basically told her that she couldnt give us a new order. She told us we woudnt be getting anything that night but that she would take care of us next time. Next time?! No way! She wasted our time and almost caused us to msis our movie. I dont think we will be coming back at all!

Its been about 4 years since i had their food and I remember thinking it was the best chinese food Id ever had. So I came back and spent 40 minutes out if my 1 hour break to travel and get my usual general tso but was disappointed. Maybe they have a different chef or something or the quality has gone down but there was a lot of fat, it was not crispy/crunchy, it was drowning in sauce and seemed a little undercooked. Im not knocking them out yet. I will give it another try (this time dine in) and see if it gets better. If anything theyre inconsistent.

Havent ever given too much thought to Wok 88 as the reviews are just so-so. Yet every time we walk by its absolutely packed. Stopped in for dinner and was over the moon. Bok choy is crunchy, garlicky, and amazingly fresh. Singapore noodles are toothsome and satisfying. Portions are generous and easily shared between several people (or make terrific leftovers). Service is gracious and solicitous. Every table was taken from the moment I arrived until well after I left. Clearly a local gem not widely shared outside the neighborhood. Go. Its terrific.

Was lucky to have this place around the corner from me for 3 years. The food is not greasy like most other Chinese restaurants, and theyre accomodating to make off menu items. Ill miss the house special chicken dish with a side of Chinese broccoli, cant find it anywhere else. The lunch specials are a no brainer if you happen to be in the area before 3pm, good portion sizes. Friendly and welcoming staff, hard to find with a extremely busy restaurant.
