My wife and I ate here on November, 1st, 2015 Frankly, it was an appalling experience from the moment we entered .. The best thing about this restaurant is the water service - attentive and unobtrusive .. Due to the amount of tables jammed into the restaurant, there is a total lack of intimacy - and subsequently, a complete lack of occasion! You are literally forced to share personal space with whatever random - and in our case - nuisance people are seated next to you ... similar to watching a movie at an AMC but with no plot choice! Frankly, Ive had muffins at Starbucks with more intimacy! The "sommelier" opened a bottle of wine (at $250) with a torn capsule! - And served same with no cork presentation because the broken cork in the bottle and when I said that the capsule was broken and the wine was gritty - he replied and said ... "yes, I broke the cork but did the best I could!" I order a Coq Au Vin - which is a fairly standard dish .. in most places .. but apparently - not here! It was bland, dry, overcooked and suffocated by a very bitter red wine reduction - which was also exactly the same sauce as the lamb dish my wife ordered .. how does that work? Chicken and Lamb with the same sauce??? Needless to say - it was just trash! My wifes lamb - cooked in a sous vide - was "random" one portion finished quite well in the pan - the other ... inedible! I made my observations on the wine (at the time) to the most unfit sommelier I have ever met .. he really didnt care .. I made my comments to the waiter at the time - he really didnt care either ... but - did try to make it a big deal that they wouldnt charge me for my virtually untouched and inedible meal . He did say he would "inform" the Chef and Management but in keeping with the apathy that this establishment offers ... neither chef nor management bothered to engage? This is not a restaurant!

On the first glance, the menu does not seem to offer you a unique new food experience, but the dishes are so well prepared and fresh that you can experience traditional dishes in a new way. The ambiance is great and the service is impeccable. Before we started with the food, we had the prosecco and a cocktail called "royal". The prosecco was very good and brut. I also very much liked the royal, but it has a very strong thai basilicum tasted almost medicine like. Either you love it or you hate it. Ive had maya shrimps for the first time in my life and they were by far the best shrimps Ive ever eaten. Yet, they were served head-off (I heard some people like to take the head off and suck it). My wife had the seafood salad which was also very good but Id prefer the shrimps. I continued with the gazpacho which had an orange color instead of the traditional dark red but the tomtoes they used were particularly tasteful and fruity. Our main courses were the duck and the cod - both dishes among the best duck and cod weve ever eaten. The cherry clafoutis were the perfect finish of our meal. As we did not want to go for a full bottle of wine, we asked for recommendations by the glass. I had the Barbera and my wife the white Burgundy wine. Both wines worked very well with the entrees! The chef recommends ordering three courses. I can eat a lot and my two appezizers (shrimps and gazpaccio) were not very filling compared to other appetizers on the menu. However, the entrees were very large and two courses plus sharing a dessert would have been enough food.

As I sat across the street attending my PR writing class, Id often steal glances at the upscale Gotham Bar and Grill. One fine day, stars aligned and I found that this Michelin Star restaurant was participating in NYC Restaurant week. I made reservations faster than me going through my empty refrigerator. I went for the prix fixe lunch here. The ambiance here is classy: gossamer lampshades hanging from the ceiling, warm lights and they still had the christmas decorations on when I visited them. The staff is courteous and attentive and service is seamless once youve decided your order. For the first course, I had the curried pumpkin soup while my friend had the mushroom salad. I think the pumpkin soup surprised me because of its mild flavor, but it grew on to me. The mushroom salad was pretty good, crunchy greens, cheese and mushrooms with white balsamic vinegar. For the second course, we both had the black rice noodles. I also had Bok Choy, which is chinese cabbage for the first time and discovered Im not a fan. Out of the three courses, this was probably my least favorite. For dessert, my friend had the Gotham chocolate cake while I ordered assorted sorbets. The cake was gooey chocolatey deliciousness packed in a slice. One of the best chocolate cakes Ive had in a restaurant so far. As for my sorbets, the raspberry and pear were strongly flavored, while the apricot one was pretty mild. It was okay. Overall Ill say even though Gotham Bar and Grill didnt blow my mind, it was a pleasant dining experience.

Yesterday I dined at the Gotham with a large party. I am a vegetarian and the prix fixe only had one option which I didnt favor (risotto). I asked my server if there was something they could do. She suggested a vegetable plate. Oh... I thought to myself, whenever a restaurant doesnt know what to do with vegetarians they offer them a vegetable plate that is steamed or sauteed with little or no flavor. Since it was The Gotham however (with its large reputation) I thought it would be better. I asked my server if she could have my dish spiced up a bit. I wasnt particular as long as the dish was flavorful. I would leave it up to the chef. She asked me "do you like spicy?" I answered a resounding yes assuming that she meant hot. Well my dish arrived (which was meager) and I learned that the kitchen idea of spice was salt. It was soaking. The experience was made worse by the way our tables were joined. We were a large party and I was seated in front of a place that was situated between two tables that were dramatically different heights. My full water glass fell over (on its) own simply because I lost track of the seam which was covered by a tablecloth. Also, the service overall was not well balanced. Either you couldnt find a waiter when you needed one or they hovered around you in a swarm like bees. The mans restroom was small and unkempt. Finally, on a personal note (as a visual artist) I found the faux stone (plastic) that weaves through this expensive restaurant to be a cheap touch.

I was lucky enough to attend my companys holiday dinner here a year and a half ago and it remains unsurpassed by any dinning experience before or since. I shared a seafood salad with a co-worker and ordered the Lobster (@ a cool $68 bucks!) for my entree. With the exception of the Spicy Thai Lobster that used to be on menu @ Double Crown (RIP) this is by far the most tasty and THE most beautifully executed seafood dish Ive had the pleasure of tasting. I was also pleasantly surprised by the generous portion- I passed bites around the table and was still famished. I glanced in awe at the wine list and was quite impressed with the two white and two red selections my wine-connoisseur boss selected for the table. The sommelier was entertaining and quite gracious- the cork he saved me is now hanging on my cork board in my kitchen! Service was formal and professional, yet non-intrusive. We were lucky enough to have a table tucked all the way into a back corner but they seemed to glide around the entire restaurant effortlessly. Again, I was lucky enough to not have to pick up the tab, but Id definitely consider this restaurant for a special occasion in the future- even on my own dime!
