Holy crap! Its Central Perk in real life! After a wasted trip crosstown, I needed something to eat and some hard liquor on this dreary, drizzly day. This was almost the perfect incarnation of a coffee shop/bar. It fully looked the part. Problem was that there were too many things that took away from its potential. The lack of Wi-Fi (I know, right?!?) and that they had run out of most of the sandwiches before 4 PM really didnt help matters. The lack of Wi-Fi gave me the incentive to finally use my free Personal Hotspot. Man, Im diggin T-Mobile more and more. So I really wasnt put out by it, though I could see how this would make someone view it as a tragic waste of all those comfy couches and that perfect cubby hole counter at the window. Not everyone is traveling with an entourage, or is carrying a physical book with them wherever they go. The trends have changed. Sorry if Im not ironically analog. Some people just want to get out of their small no cable having apartment for a few hours even if they are alone. Especially if they are alone. Ive seen other establishments incentivize their Wi-Fi by putting an hour cap on the password printed out on the receipt. That insures people buy stuff, so no need for the signage at the register pleading customers to buy something every hour. I dont know if the owner is unaware or intentionally being a Luddite. With the iPad point of sale... Im guessing the latter. I ordered the Gaelic Punch and the Salami and Cheese. My other choice was a Lentil sandwich. Yeah... not really a choice. The Gaelic Punch is the second lemony hot toddy type drink Ive had in as many weeks. I enjoyed it very much. It was pricey, but so perfect for the crap weather, I had two. Cant get sick with hot lemon and cinnamon! Im vacillating between giving DTUT 3 or 4 stars because of two things... One, the screaming toddlers. If you come before 5 pm, you need a higher tolerance for "precocious" children than I have. Learning the Indoor Voice is an important life skill, okay? Your screeching toddler is not precious. Second, for something directly within DTUTs control... that Salami sandwich. I wasnt a fan. The bread was too hard. The pickled pepper was a nice tangy touch, but there was hardly any salami to play it off of. But the plethora of shabby chic couches... Im torn. Im willing to give it another go if Im on the eastside in the future. If I can get a better sandwich, Ill upgrade my review.

When I first came into DTUT I knew Im going to like it. I went there on Friday night and first thing I liked is the fact it doesnt look like a bar at all. Vibe here is a mixture of a coffee shop, a bier garden (with lack of craft beers selection at 4 only, but bottled and caned beer selection is great) and a bar. It actually is a coffee/bakery spot during the day and a bar at night. Its spacious and has bunch of community tables, so if youre looking for a place to go with a group, this is a great spot. Its also laid back and funky. There is somewhat isolated lounge area with couches and a projector that screens videos without sound. Interior is great with high ceilings and a lot of light bulbs hanging down on random places on a piece of wire, Brooklyn loft style. Whole vibe is pretty much like youre visiting a friend who has a lot of cool items and books on his shelf. Staff is just great. Professionally friendly just to a perfect amount. Its not opened late like other bars, so on a weekend this might be that perfect spot for warming up.

Im so glad that DTUT has returned to the UES and has really re-established itself. Years ago, my friends and I referred to DTUT as the ultimate "first date" spot -- while I dont need it for this purpose anymore, it still holds true. The environment is fantastic though - great music, coffee, food and drink. The atmosphere changes as the day progresses - fun hang-out during the day, but still a good place to get some work done if you want to get out of the house. At night - darker, cooler, more intimate -- hang out with some friends or make some new ones!

Its quite embarrassing how long it took me to go in here. This place has the perfect vibe for a snow day, a sunny afternoon, or a first date. Even just a spot to hang out after a long day of work. Games, projector screen, small aquarium add to this. $4 Narragansetts all the time are no joke and the smores platter is so fun! Everyone you meet here is friendly and there is a book club on the first Tuesday of every month. In the mornings too, grab a cup of coffee and get some work done.

Coffee shop during the day, bar at night with the best bartenders in town. Order the smores—which you toast right at your table—or some of their seasonal drinks. Perfect cozy, casual atmosphere whether youre grabbing a cup of coffee to catch up, doing some work or studying, or having a chill night out. Bonus: they always have movies or TV shows playing on a projector over couches in the back, and a bunch of board games (Jenga, Connect 4) to play while youre hanging out.

Like Arrested Development, DTUT closed suddenly when i was a kid and then reopened years later. The reboot has helped revitalize the Upper East Side and made for the only date/hangout spot for blocks. Couple notes: I will sound elderly (im 25) but I pray they will lower the music volume one day. I throw my voice out there whenever I visit and once blew fire from my smores onto someone while trying to project over music.

Always love this "Friends" style coffeehouse. In addition to coffee and tea, they have booze! A lot of micro brews and wine. Tough to get a coveted couch seat... oh, and no WiFi after 5 pm or weekends - theyre basically saying dont linger all day here when were busy. Id prefer WiFi! Heck, just talk to the folks youre with I guess and look at their faces ;-)

Come in for Trivia – we won and got a free bottle of wine! The fondue is delicious and hearty, but definitely order the larger platter so you get more items to dip. If you are looking for something sweet, the smores platter is a must do. All around, a great place to hang out that isn’t usually super crowded with really polite and helpful staff.

Perfect place on the upper east side to be creative and stay tethered to your tech. They have a funky creative vibe with high tables, low tables, broken couches, arm chairs and a lot of laptop action midday. Wifi seems to be cut in the evening. They have food, coffee , beer, wine and a great laid back productive vibe.
