Hands down the best coffee shop in Morningside Heights. Move over Joe Coffee. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They pull a great espresso. They often have a single origin option, but they wont serve it if they dont think it will come out to their standards! Such an admirable quality. They have great pastries from a local baker and provide coffee from their off-site roaster. If you get a chance to talk to their toastmaster, do so. They all love their coffee and wont hesitate to tell you everything great about them.

Great coffee. First and foremost, so that is the most important. I also always appreciate a bit of latte art. That said, there is a pretty limited menu. No blended ice coffee drinks in the summer, no flavours, just coffee. Limited food menu as well - some baked goods in a case. Did not see any healthy options, but the bear cookie (Madeline?) was amazing. Accept credit, no minimum. Would recommend, after setting those expectations.

Their coffee tastes great and goes down smooth. Hot, cold-brewed, nitro, you name it - this is the place to go. They recently rearranged their check-out counter to improve the flow of traffic but its still pretty snug inside with the limited seating so your best bet is to get it and go. Ive only encountered a line on the weekends but they move quickly and get orders out with little or no delay.

I ordered a double espresso and struggled to even get it down. Insanely acidic and bitter. At shift change, the new staff member came in and tried the espresso the previous staff member had made...he goes "bro whats what with the espresso? Why does it taste like that?"...yet they still continued to serve it. Was super excited for a good espresso, but looks like I will be going elsewhere from now on.

I recently moved away from the UWS and Plowshare will be missed. This place is awesome. The coffee is great and the people are very sweet. I ran in to the owner at a restaurant downtown and after he left the server came to my table and said he had bought us a round of drinks. Theres a lot of character in the shops around this area: Absolute Bagel, Silver Moon Bakery, Plowshare fits in nicely.

Shockingly good cappuccino and pastries. We did a side-by-side comparison of the Plowshares cappuccino with one using Tobys Estate beans and the Plowshares version had so much more body and flavor. The owner is very helpful offering advice on different roasts of bags of Plowshare beans. We highly recommend the bear-shaped almond cookie - quite excellent.

Who says only Brooklyn has good coffee? Plowshares brews an excellent cold brew. Forgetting that Cold Brew doesnt exactly last all day well, I ordered some in the afternoon, and it was surprisingly still fresh and not bitter. Staff was friendly and quite quick and knew their way around an espresso machine.

While the coffee is good, this place embodies many of the things I dislike about the vibe of the UWS: expensive, small, and a bit pretentious. So far its the best cup of coffee in the area but I dont think Ill be back except maybe for their cold brew which seemed semi reasonable.

My new favorite spot to get coffee on the uws. Their coffee is consistently fantastic, and they have made some amazing shots of espresso for me too. They are also great roasters for those who are looking to buy some beans. Thanks for making the neighborhood a better place!

How can I give this more than one star when I get a tall latte that costs more than Starbucks, doesnt taste as good and there is no damn place to sit and try to enjoy it. And I dont even like Starbucks. I will stick to brewing my own.

Plowshares make fantastic coffee to stay or for take away. However, when I inquired about their whole bean coffees flavors /characteristics the baristas were not able to walk me through the lovely selection.

You wont find coffee roasted or brewed with more care. The pastries are from outstanding local bakers. The vibe is mellow, chill. Great place to slow down and enjoy truly great coffees and good people.

Basic, no non-sense coffee shop with great coffee, some pastries and a good location. The staff is friendly (a little bit on the stiff side) and quick. The muffins are always fresh and delicious.

Great place for coffee. Excellent upstate roasted beans go into two daily drip options or through an expert wielded slayer espresso machine. The cortado is the best north of the meridians.

Cute place. No wifi or outlets which is fine. Good coffee and selection of teas. Staff seemed a bit grumpy but most baristas tend to be that way. All in all an average to good expierence.

Coffee is ordinary but pricey. Staff acts like they cant stand to work there, which gives the place an unpleasant vibe. They dont let people sit for too long, so dont bring your books.

cute spot with gourmet coffee -- great if you live around UWS and need to satisfy daily coffee cravings. wouldve been even better if they scaled up just a little and offered wifi.

This is the only serious coffee place around, and its a great one. A little small and most times full, but with great service and coffee, so thats whats important.

Amazing coffee. Starbucks should be ashamed of themselves. Anyone who appreciates the best of the best when it comes to coffee - this is definitely one of them.

Decent cappuccino but nothing to rave about. My extra hot cappuccino was more latteesque and with slightly burnt flavor. The space is small but comfortable.

Best coffee & baristas in Manhattan. Favorites include quad latte & nitro cold brew. Special days always include a gluten free peanut butter cookie

The best coffee and baristas in the city. What a great addition to the neighborhood. Try a nitro cold brew and an almond croissant. Delicious!

Paid *wayyyy* too much money for a chai here...it was mediocre and the barista was really slow making it. There was no line.

The coffee was good, but they were a tad slow and unorganized, serving a similar coffee to a patron behind me before mine.
