I had high hopes for Bar Americain. I walked in and took a seat at the bar. My server brought me a menu for drinks and I ordered a Manhattan. Impressively the bar tender knew enough to ask if I prefer lemon twist or cherry with my drink. (Cherry for those of you who care). On the servers recommendation I had a asparagus chopped salad. It was fresh and crisp. Uniformly diced peaces of cheese and ham were in the salad. There was a mustard vinaigrette that was very impressive. I did notice that there was a bit too much dressing on the salad, I like mine very light some may like it this way. If you prefer it lighter then ask for it on the side. After that I tried the duck breast. I am not a huge fan of duck, but this was well cooked and came apart very easily. For those who enjoy duck this may be right up your ally. Moving on to dessert I tried their germen chocolate cake. The cake didnt move me. It wasnt as moist as I would expect and was so dense as to make it unappetizing. This along with what was a laughably small espresso was a let down to end the meal with. I have no doubt that the level of service and food at Bar Americain is typically of a much higher level. I give 3 stars for a dining experience that was a let down but one that I have high hopes for next time I try it.

This place was surprisingly, just okay. The decor and the ambience inspired a sense of high class; befitting the area this place is situated in. The service was pretty good, just pretty good and so was the food. That was the most disappointing thing about the evening I guess I had it built in my head from watching all the Iron Chef shows Bobby Flay was in that the food would bestow upon you an out of this world experience. Sadly, however, that was not the case. I ordered the pork chop, described by the server to be tender and succulent and cooked to perfection. But alas, that was not the case, it was dry..DRY I say!!! A taste characteristic that I would expect to find from one of the street vendors just a few blocks away, but not at this place, please say it aint so?!! I dont remember what my cousin ordered, I guess the rest of the night was a blur after trying to stomach that sorry excuse for cuisine. I guess other than that, the our evening was okay, but dont get your hopes up coming to this place. Its over-rated and hyped up by all the tourists that flock to Bobbys establishments. Im sure hes an excellent chef, capable of dishing up some existential dishes. However, the restaurants that bear his name dont do his talents any justice.

Let me start by saying, the restaurant is warm, open and relaxing! Drinks at the bar were wonderful as well. We were seated at a large booth by the open kitchen, which was very pleasing. Now, for a few negatives.... The waiter never introduced himself, I had to ask what his name was... When I asked what kind of Lamb it was?, he replied, How many kinds are there? and I started to explain to him, and then I said could you find out for me. I like Colorado (western) lamb, not New Zealand or Australian. They were wonderful and cooked to perfection, as well as the filet and rib-eye ordered by others in our party. Another guest ordered the halibut and had to send it back.... the sauce was uneatably salty. But she re-ordered a filet and it was perfect! Another turn off was the presentation of the food...There wasnt any...charge more and serve with sides or at least a flower on the plate, so the meat doesnt look so lonely. Overall, it was a little disappointing....except...they do know how to cook meat!

I really liked this place. I thought it was a very classy and had a nice relaxing atmosphere, the service was fantastic and the food was great! I loved the shrimp and grits that I got for a meal..the bacon in it was super crispy and the flavors were fantastic...the texture of the grits was really nice too and Im not usually a huge fan. The plates werent huge, heaping portions but of course you expect the dishes to be smaller at a place like this. I also loved the bread that came out with the appetizers. Its simple but also nice when you get something different as a compliment to your meal, like the garlic cornbread...very unique and tasty. The steak was really good as well. They had a nice cocktail list too, though I didnt think the drinks were necessarily amazing for 14$ each, but they werent bad either. The champagne was very good. Although, I guess when youre paying a lot of money, you expect there to be a good amount of alcohol in the drinks, and there definitely were so thats a good thing.

I LOVED Bar Americain. We had a private event here and I was just blown away by the food. Passed appetizers included beef tartare, mushroom puffs, and chicken skewers, among others. The meal included three courses-- (1) Spicy tuna tartare or pear salad. I got the tuna, and it was GREAT though Im not a fan of capers and it was loaded with capers... still, the tuna shone through and the plating was beautiful and practical. (2) Chicken pot pie or mahi mahi tacos. I got the tacos and loved putting them together with lots of sides--avocado, spicy sauce, some sort of pepper dish, etc. I heard the pot pie was also awesome, with a sweet potato crust. (3) The dessert was a coconut chiffon cake that was light and lovely. And we had bread on the table that was quite tasty, including these little cornbread fingers that were like candy. Overall, it was just such a beautiful event with excellent food. The service was excellent too--timely, courteous, and with a great sense of humor.

This review is for the restaurant at the Mohegan Sun Casino. I was looking forward to enjoy this place, but besides the physical environment the rest was ...well...COLD. Drinks were fine. For a check ~ 300.00, where we were reserved to order more (wanted to finish as soon as possible), this is what we happened to receive: 1. Service with mistakes, no remedies offered. 2. The food was OK taste, but not cooked to order (steaks), and the mussel dish (which I enthusiastically ate) was undercooked and became very disturbing for my stomach after we left the place. 3. Server showed up unnecessarily often to scrape the crumbs (even for single ones), and did not pay attention to the order requests, for which she never made up for. We went there to have a good time, so we did not complain about the shortcomings. It was obvious that they did not care after noticing the errors themselves. Expense not justified here, not sure if I’ll give it another chance.

Service was excellent. My wife and I told the waitress we wanted to take our time and enjoy drinks apps etc. She was very accommodating. I asked for some recommendations and she was quick to suggest the duck confit and said the bourbon sauce that came with it was excellent. She was 100% right. The duck was great! I also asked for a wine recommendation. She was quick to describe the differences between the wines that would best compliment the dinner choices we made. My wife had the Pork Chop. She enjoyed that as well. If you like French Onion soup you will like what Bar Americain offers. The Vidalia Onions were sweet, the broth was delicious. We skipped desert and chose to walk around the Casino and pick up some desert at Ballos. Bar Americain had great service, very good food and dont be afraid to ask the wait staff for suggestions or information about the dishes. It made a difference in the meal.
