This is what a coffee shop should be - local, friendly, affordable and a comfortable place to just sit and relax. That perfectly describes Autobahn, which not only has some great fairtrade coffee and espresso drinks (chai tea was especially awesome), but also a decent selection of fresh pastries and a breakfast/lunch menu as well. The only downside is the somewhat out-of-the-way location. With that said, its only a 5 minute walk from the Old Oakland neighborhood, and there is ample street parking right in front of it.

A real gem of a cafe in the Jack London District that took me way too long to discover, however I will definitely be back. Delicious egg sandwich, solid coffee (Mr Espresso) and very friendly staff. Seems to be popular with city and local business types and I feel like Im back in Europe here - enjoy! PS. Free WiFi - just ask at the counter for the password.

This cafe is awesome! A hidden gem. The coffee beans are hand-roasted here in Oakland by Mr. Espresso and you can taste the love! The staff is friendly and all the baked goods are fresh and yummy. I am so happy to have discovered this lovely spot.

People are nice. Menu has good selections. I had the red flannel hash. My hubby had smoke salmon Benedict. It was very good. The biscuit was flaky and crunchy outside and soft inside. Yum.
