Lets be honest here - all the people giving it 4 or 5 stars are probably locals who have NO clue about good Italian food. How could they, when Racine is absent of any quality restaurants? Honestly, I have nothing against the restaurant or its owners, but the food is NOT home made and is of poor quality. The sauces taste like theyre from a can. The mushrooms in my wifes dish were definitely from a can. And the pasta was cheap quality, something youd pick up at walmart. Ive eaten here a few times. The pizza is good, yes, but the other entrees are BELOW average. If you are coming here hoping to get quality italian, youll be disappointed and the prices are not cheap, considering the inferior food. The portions are large and the food is average - what the typical blue collar racinian looks for. Theres nothing wrong with that, but compare this food to what youd find at say Tenutas in Bay View and youll notice quite the gap in quality.

So, let me first say the setting overall is nice, the staff was friendly and attentive and helpful when my partner was...um... less-than-impressed about his lunch. The food, however, was unimpressive. The tomato-basil soup had a sharp taste of tomato that wasnt properly balance with seasoning and cooking, like tomato juice or canned tomato sauce. I found it palatable enough with some "parmesan" shake-cheese-food-product on it, but that didnt help it enough for my partner. The gnocchi carbonara was really decent gnocchi with a cream sauce and prosciutto cotto rather than an agg coating made a la minute. It tasted OK for what it was, but its wrong to call it carbonara.

Before I say anything about the establishment I will admit to being a local resident, and knowing the owner from both personal life, and my days of working at a hotel in downtown Racine. I do thoroughly enjoy the food served at Salutes as well as the dining atmosphere provided. I see a lot of people comparing the food to restaurants in much larger cities across the U.S, which is valid, but out of Racines dining options I would argue that Salutes has established itself as the top restaurant in town, or at least very close to it.

Rad Chad is a snob, this isnt a $30 or even $20 a plate restaurant, so if you want "better" Italian go to Mangia in Kenosha or even better, Pasta Tree in Milwaukee! I eat all over the country and Salute is very good. Racine is lucky to have this great spot and owners. If John is in, have a Sambuca with a war hero and some wonderful Italian! Johns son needs to pay attention to all of the customers and smile more often, not just be cool with the friends he is giving away drinks to at the bar! I go here at least once a month.

When I asked our waitress what the anti pasto was for the evening I was told "some kind of meat and cheese". I had to explain that Peligrino water was the one in the GREEN bottle. She corrected my pronunciation of the word "gnocchi" apparently in Wisconsin it has a hard "G" in front. The Carbonara was alfredo sauce with some sliced up ham tossed in at the end. If you havent ever had real Italian food you might like this place, if you have - just go to pizza hut or olive garden.

I went there last night, June 13, 2013. I order the original bruscetta which was fair and of good portion. The calamari reminded me fondly of Burger Kings onion rings which I havent had in more than 20 years. The NY strip steak, ordered medium well, was very dry. Thank goodnees for the au jus. The waitress appropriately removed plates but never once asked how the food was. Im sure she already knew that it was below average at best. Definitely no worth the $.

Authentic Italian food! Our extended family gathered there after a Wake that we attended in Racine. Made reservations for at least 25. Waitstaff had everything in order and served promptly, accurately and even split the bills among the family members. Sauce was a very sweet red sauce. Delicious! Special attention to the menu. They have lighter portions for the pasta dishes, which is simply wonderful for me. Highly recommend.

One of my top Italian places in Racine (and thats saying a lot). Delicious pizza and pasta. Ive never been disappointed. You can tell its hand-made pasta and that they use fresh ingredients. That goes a long way. its usually very busy, but not hard to get in if you make a reservation. The only negative is the service can be sort of slow, which is usually because its so busy, but thats really not a good reason for it.

I was a little mislead by the great reviews here. The food was nothing special at all. I got the ravioli and my wife got the lasagna. The sauce looked like just pure tomato paste, no spices, herbs, nothing. The place was packed, no where to really wait for a table, we just stood by the hostess desk and were in everyones way. I did really like the clam chowder, that was one of the best Ive had.

Friendly neighborhood place. I live downtown and they remember me whenever I enter or call. Food good. So much, always have take home. They have been here for years and by the crowds... and wait for table or take out; good food for the money. I love the Piccata Chicken and the wild mushroom ravioli. Yum!!

I have never been at a more better restaurant. The food is the best I ever had. Everything is home made from the sauces right down to the formed pasta it self!!!!! Everyone should try it, and if something is not to your liking just mention it and they make it right, NO PROBLEM!!!!!

I dont have anything positive to say other than staff was nice and attentive and the garlic knots were ok . My sandwich was dry and tasteless. This is not an Italian restaurant as much as an Italian pizza place with other menu items.

familly friendly...good food...loud, like it should be. downtown is a great location. Parking is somewhat challenging, but should be expected downtown. Lasagna and pizza are my favorites from this family owned restaurant.

Classic Italian. Moderately priced. Great service that was friendly and efficient. Casual atmosphere. The only negative is that the main course was served less than three minutes after the salad (a pet peeve of mine).

Homemade pasta and sauce fill your plates. Go and split an order as servings are incredible. We left craving for a time when hunger would return and we would finish our leftovers.
