a friend of mine and I dined one evening at the new restaurant, Sopra in Lake Geneva. It was, what we thought, just the type of restaurant needed in Lake Geneva. The only thing is, that the hostess, who we found out later was the manager and wife of the owner, recommended a bottle of wine for us, before we even took a look at the wine list. She poured us a taste, and when we tasted, she asked us if we liked it, and of course, we said yes. She then said great, filled both our glasses up, and left the bottle on our table, assuming we were ok with buying the bottle. We were stunned! Yes, a great wine, but as I mentioned, we didnt even look at the wine list and next thing we new, we were buying one of the most expensive bottles of wine of the menu, over $70.00. The manager didnt even ask what we were looking for as far as taste, and we may not have necessarily gone with a red wine given our entree choices. Not that we are cheap, because we enjoy a great wine, but we felt ike we didnt have a choice. We then noticed her, the manager/hostess bringing several samples to other tables to help them make a choice. Was it the way we were dressed? Did we look like we only bought things that were expensive? After looking at the wine list, there were several other great wines that were half the price of the wine we were "forced" to buy. Our server was pleasant and accomodating, but the food was "ok". Only being open for a few weeks, there were a few menus options that were not available. Who opens a restaurant and doesnt have the stock the first few weeks? I cant even comment on the food as we were more shocked still by the way the hostes/manager treated us as if we would pay for anything. Are they thawt desparate to make a buck? Not sure if we will return. How could she asume that we would be willing to pay that much for a bottle aof wine, let alone if we were even going to buy a bottle? Given the entrees, mine would have been better complimented with dry, white wine, yet we were forced to buty the bottle of red. If they plan on being a succesful place, listen to your customers, and dont assume but the way people are dressed. What if we couldnt afford that bottle of wine? The other thing is, it wasnt our waitresses fault, so we didnt want to complain to her, nor take it out on her tip.

We had an absolutely delightful experience at Sopra! We came here for a special occasion and were not disappointed! There were two of us - one got the special (in the photo) and the other got the Wagyu Flat Iron. Both were really great and cooked just how we liked. The knife looked comically large next to the other silverware. Our waitress wasnt the most attentive but wasnt bad either. From what we could tell, most of the other waitstaff seemed very attentive. There are so many expensive, boring resort steakhouses in the area - pass all those over and choose this gem. We went on a Tuesday night and probably didnt need reservations but were glad we had them. We walked in and the hostess asked, "Do you have reservations?"

While walking through downtown Lake Geneva we stumbled upon Sopra and we decide to give it a try. We ordered the Flat Iron steak and the pan-seared Duck. The duck was seared to perfection, tender full of flavor it was served on a bed of greens with a balsamic reduction. The steak had a perfect char pink in the middle tender full of flavor. It was served with blue cheese mashed potatoes which complemented steak very well. For drinks we had the Omen and the Ginger Manhattan which were both crafted to perfection. So if youre visiting Lake Geneva definitely stop by Sopra and explore their menu.

The service was great - super nice servers and attentive support staff. We got the goat cheese app, beet salad and tuna tartare. All three were delicious. Entrees were: buttered noodles for the kid, which were deemed outstanding; duck - flavorful and tender; and, special sea bass, which was perfectly seasoned. Tiramisu and pistachio gelato desserts disappeared. Flourless chocolate cake was sublime, but very rich. Could have used a lighter accompaniment instead Vanilla gelato. Overall was a wonderful experience. We would definitely come back. - Family from Chicago.

Definitely not worth dining at Sopra!! Owner sat us and waitress took our drink and app order.and after 30 minutes when drinks did not arrive I approached owner to see about getting drinks. We still did not receive the drinks we asked waitress who acted as if it was an inconvenience since they were busy! Restrooms were filthy and pasta had no flavor. The worst part of our experience was the service and while receiving such terrible service we watched the owner grab his glass of wine as he back with his family/friends and enjoyed as were given horrible service!

Chef will not make substitutions or eliminate any items (i.e., I didnt want capers included) on any menu item on weekends.I had a very difficult time making decision because there was something I didnt like on almost every item. I looked at menu ahead of time online before I made reservation and it was different than one in restaurant. We told them it was our 25th anniversary when we made the reservation and they did nothing special. We sat down at 6:45 when the restaurant wasnt crowded and didnt receive our entree until after 8:00. Will not be returning.

Food was wonderful. We started off with the roasted olives and the lobster wontons. The olives were fabulous but if they were pitted it would have been slightly better so we could eat them with thebread. The lobster wontons with goat cheese were full of lobster chuncks and had a great sweet and spicy sauce served alongside the 3 large wontons. For dinner we had the lobster Penne which was fabulous as well as the tilapia which was also good but the lobster Penne was the star of the evening. No room for dessert but we will be back. Guaranteed.

Alright! So service rocked... drinks rocked... Food was alright... now I love paying good money when I know the foods of quality. I love good food. Now for about 40 bucks a plate Im expecting some good ass food. I had the rabbit gnocchi with bacon and mushrooms in a cream sauce... The main part is the gnocchi and it sucked lol. Doughy and the dough had no flavor it tasted like box dough. The rabbit and such was great but yuk. Never again spend 200 there for sub par food

My family and I have been dining in Lake Geneva for the past 20 years and we are so happy to have found Sopra. We have been to the new resturant several times since it opened over a month ago. The staff is great and their recommodations have all been right on. The menu items that we have tryed so far have blown us away, the food is so good!!! The wine list is one of the best I have seen and the prices are very reasonable. We cant wait to go back!!!

Stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. We are Americans who travel to Europe frequently. Our dining experience made us feel like we were in our favorite European city, Dublin. Delicious, fresh farm to table cuisine with American size portions. I had leftovers to feed my family the next day! I highly recommend the smoke salmon fettuccine and tiger shrimp bucatini. Both were amazing! So was the burrata salad and the assorted olives appetizer. Yummy!
