I used to stop here every time I came north on I-5 from points south, whether it be Battle Ground, Portland or Corvallis. On Thursday my wife and I were heading south and for the first time I stopped there heading south. Big mistake on our travel plan. It seems the restaurant has been bought by someone else. Gone are all the photos and posters on the walls associated with the town and the history of the restaurant. The service was weak. We waited for 20+ minutes for two burgers and two fries. The burgers I saw sitting on the counter for over 15 minutes while the fries were cooking. When we got our food the burgers tasted but were room temperature while the fries were so hot we had to wait to eat them. There was no apology for the slow service. Although while pacing and waiting for the food, I was "happy" to see the three members of the staff huddled in the back b.s.ing loud enough for everyone in the place to hear their stories. I wont be back. And this after probably eating there 25 times or so over the last 10 years.

I always read reviews of places I am considering and generally play it safe, avoiding spots which garner poor feedback (it is usually true). But, this time I gotta say that I am pretty shocked by a few of the comments. This place is a regular half-way point for me and my family and it has become famous among my out-of-state friends as well. The food is good, not fabulous, but good. But what really defines this place are the seasonal shakes. You cannot really rate the place until you have had one of their fresh raspberry shakes. Remember homemade ice-cream, straight from the churn, and the taste of tangy raspberries exploding with sweet perfection? You will need more than a straw for this treat - the abundance of berries clogs it up! Anyway, I do not usually write reviews, but really felt the next person should know there is more to this place than just the regular burger faire. If you go through Kalama during the Summer, go for the fresh shake - it is what truly puts this place on the map.

Mediocre. Food, not service, is Better than McDonalds. Young kids work there, so it seems to be a place they hang out rather than work hard. Even with adults working around them they would rather joke around than greet customers. Food is okay. I dont think the ice cream for shakes is anything other than water and powdered soft serve, not real cream tasting at any rate. The napkin holder on multiple tables was nasty dirty. The lemon juice in the small packets, which i like on my fries, was Brown... Not yellow. However, the fries were fresh and good. Tables were dirty not wiped clean. This was not during rush hour or lunch time. There were only two other groups of a couple people each that came in after me. The parking lot was empty and no one pulling out when i pulled in so as an ex restaurant employee you would think there would have been time to at least wipe the customer area down!

Yum! Just scarfed down our burgers and fries on our way north. About 4 miles south of the Burger Bar, I called in our order for a bacon burger, cheese burger, and fries. When we arrived 4 minutes later, theyd just put the patties on the grill. By the time wed paid and made some small talk with the 2 friendly women working there our food was ready. Delicious grilled flavor on the burgers. The hefty fries stayed warm til wed eaten the burgers. Weve been traveling this stretch of I-5 for over 20 years and often stop at the Burger Bar. Their food and service are always excellent.

Stopped by here on our way home to seattle, didnt want to just get some "same old" fast food. We were completely taken off guard when we walked into the unlocked doors to find the dining room had signs that said we could not sit down! Are you freaking kidding me? For real? Ummmm... speechless! You dont want my money? Fine, good riddance Kalama.. BK has no problem letting us sit in their dining room!.. p.s. we drive by here 3 to 4 times a month, you wasted an opportunity to gain a new customer because you didnt want to wipe down another table 30 minutes before closing!

If you are wanting an old school burger experience between Seattle and Portland you wont be disappointed. Fries are great. Burgers fantastic. Try the bacon cheese for a big appetite. I love their smaller cheese burger. Its topped with a special sauce and is a perfect little bite and one of the best "basic" cheeseburgers around. Kids loved the shakes. Only thing I personally didnt like was the chicken strips. I wasnt a fan of the breading but that was a personal preference and had nothing to do with quality.

I use the drive-thru, so I cannot comment on the interior of the restaurant. Im fairly certain the milkshakes arent real milkshakes, as in ice cream or a related substance. I could not drink it. That I am aware of, their food comes frozen. I would drive 15 miles in either direction for a meal. Im sorry to say since they do support the local community. I feel they take for granted their local customer base and do not invest in attracting the business that whisks along on I-5, just outside their doors.

Gross awful food. Filthy filthy filthy dining room and kitchen. Felt sorry for the one girl in there trying to take orders inside and the drive-thru plus cook everything. I honestly cant believe the health dept doesnt shut it down. I was shocked at the level of filth. Looks like a lot of effort was put into getting the resturant this dirty. If there was anywhere else in kalama to eat this place wouldnt exist.

Ive always found this place to have good customer service delicious food. Prices are not bad for a small town I mean they use real ingredients (its not a McDonalds where they just have fake processed food brought in on a truck.) Sometimes the restaurant could use a little wiping down on the tables or something like that but overall pretty clean. I always stop by on my way up to Seattle for a Kalama Burger

The Burger Bar has good old fashioned food, but the restaurant is absolutely filthy. There is not a clean spot in sight. If the owner cleaned the place up I would go back, but I wont be returning until the place is thoroughly cleaned and kept that way. Its a shame since Kalama is such a small town, you would think the owner would want to take pride in his/her business.

OMG 06/19/2015 date of visit. Great service They take debit card (Min $5 purchase) The shake was so thick, they had thick crinkle cut fries. The burger reminded me of A&W of years past. The price is in line with Burgerville. Theres other menus items Id going back to try. Open 9am to 9 pm 7 days a week. If its sunny, Im eating outside.

Very disappointed. We stopped on our way back home and was looking forward to having a good burger and fries. We had stopped here in the past, probably a few years ago, and had enjoyed it before. Seems like they must have changed things because this time the food was awful and the place was filthy. Not recommended.
