From Japan :) Nice Japanese restaurant with good Japanese staffs in good atmosphere. They do not have only American sushi rolls, but also nigiri sushi which is truly Japanese style. (But I like sushi rolls better here.) My boss said curry udon was very Japanese and tasty. I loved juicy agedashi tofu. 従業員の方は日本人が複数いらして、日本語でオーダー可能でした。メニューも日本語併記でした。流石日本人と言うべきか接客の態度はとても良かったです。客層は海外の方の方が多かったです。

Ive come here since elementary school, when my entire family would sit at the sushi bar and chat with the sushi chef, learning how to order in Japanese and more about the sushi culture. I went away to college on the other side of the country and hadnt been in 8 years, but I just revisited tonight to find the same chef and the same pleasant conversation, friendly service, and some of the best sushi Ive ever tasted. If you dont know the Japanese names for what you want to order, just ask and they are more than happy to tell you what everything is and what temporary additions to the menu you should try out. Im glad nothings changed here and plan to keep coming to Koharu for years to come.

How much you appreciate this restaurant will depend on how much appreciate authenticity. The prices are higher than other sushi places but you also get a lot more. Your seafood is fresh, they serve REAL crab instead of the imitation pollack-based version and unlike any other sushi restaurant in the immediate area, this place is owned and staffed by Japanese people instead of Koreans who have no idea what real sushi is. They also have menu items only Japanese people would serve. If you just want quantity and dont care about the content of your sushi, find a buffet. If you want authentic and top quality sushi Koharu is the only restaurant Id recommend outside of Seattle.

Quiet little sushi restaurant in Federal Way. The food was good, I ordered the chirashi, and the cost was $25. Partner had the sushi plate, and it was more than enough. She didnt like the fact that a great deal of wasabi was hidden under the fish, but she dealt with it. The meals included the normal deal; a pot of tea, a small salad, the meal, and little gelatin desert. The fish portions for the chirashi were a little smaller compared to others Ive experienced, but overall it was good dining experience. Id eat there again and Id recommend others as well.

Loved everything but the price. Everything seemed on the high side, Prices have gone up since the menu was last updated here. Around $1.00 to $2.00 on sushi rolls, $3-4 on entrees. Most rolls are served with 4-6 rolls. More expensive rolls give you 4, making the price upwards of $4 per roll. If the price was lowered Id consider going here a lot more. But for now they are way to expensive for my tastes. There is a lot of other places that sell sushi with the the same quality Koharu does for much less, or give you a lot more for the same price.

Here is an excellent "find" hidden away in an unattractive strip mall. Once inside, you realize this is a special place where the owners have taken care to provide you with an authentic experience, from the interior decor, the warm towels, the care-taking servers in gorgeous kimonos, and right on through to the excellent Japanese food. You wont go wrong with the Spider Roll.

I have been coming here for the past 12 years and the food has stayed consistent. For me, it is truly the best sushi in town! They have special lunch bentos that have plenty of delicious things in it and reasonably priced. The ladies wear kimonos during dinner time. For me, it is authentic Japanese food close to what you would get in Tokyo and I have been to Japan.

Im from Louisiana and on my trip here I found myself craving sushi. I wont eat here again. Way over priced. The sushi roll was nearly $20 and was the smallest roll Ive ever had. Had the seaweed wrap not been there the rice would have touched in the middle. Very dissapointing. The beef terryaki however was perfect. Definitely not the place for a sushi lover.

Food was pretty good but their sushi menu was basic and very small. The waitress was polite when she was there but otherwise nonexistant. I basically went my whole meal without a drink because the drinks they serve are small and they never came by my table to give or ask for a refill. The food was great and almost worth it.

Ive lived in Federal Way two years now and just tonight found the most authentic experience and superior quality of a restaurant. The menu was diverse and the food was clearly prepared with a high standard, fresh and satisfying. We cannot wait to show off this place to our family and friends! 5 stars by far!!!

The food was amazing, it was my first time there last night. And my first to have mackerel, cooked perfectly. The soup, well made and not too strong. I have to say the mackerel it was astonished that it was cooked perfectly, I have travels across the land to find perfectly cooked mackerel, and hear I found it!

When my Japanese American wife and I moved here we had low expectations that wed find real Japanese food in Federal Way. Our first trip to Koharu shocked us as the food was both great and authentic. The owners immigrated from Kyoto and serve family style food like youd find walking down the street in Japan.

food was good but they charged tax 30% and then asked to pay tip...it was so weird, so I asked why? waitress said, just sorry because she charged both tax and tip to me. However she didnt fix anything, she charged tip more than 20% arbitrarily even though she didnt serve anything.

Very authentic in cuisine and environment, including a pleasant atmosphere and waitresses in kimonos. Wide variety of dishes too, I went with a large (and hungry) party and everyone enjoyed everything we ordered, many people even shared and everyone left full and happy.

Great ambiance, good place to have business lunch and talk. In the US, I always prefer Japanese restaurants run by real Japanese family with a real Japanese chef. Prices are steep, but much better value than eating Japanese food in a Chinese or Korean run restaurant.

Great food. Ive been there many times. I highly recommend the combos of either the tonkatsu, gyoza, or tempora. Also they have a great salmon shioyaki. The fish they use in their sushi is good quality - expect to pay more for less (think quality and not quantity).

Great fresh, authentic sushi! The owner, owners wife and daughter were very friendly and gave attentive service. IMHO this is the best Japanese restaurant and best place to get sushi in Federal Way! This place is a new favorite for me.

Best Japanese restaurant weve tried in the area. Food was extremely tasty and seemed remarkably fresh. Staff worked well as a team to take care of customers. Interior was inviting and relaxing. We will definitely be going back.

Quite excellent. Very high quality food ... the special appetizers are truly delicious. Sushi rice is perfectly seasoned. Every time I come to Seattle, I always eat there as often as I can. Highly recommended.
