We ended up at the Dog Street Pub by chance, after walking out of 2 other places that werent open for lunch and we had 2 hungry and tired kids. Wait wasnt too bad but we chose to eat at the bar which is large and spacious enough to enjoy a full meal. Bartender was very friendly and served drinks right away. The beer choices are enough for any level of enthusiast, I had a Allegash White Ale which perfect for a hot summer day. Now for the food... Kids menu is well done, one had the half burger with house made fries, perfect portions. The other had PB&J sandwich with house made chips. Bread was thick, its enough for 2 kids but.no complaints. My wife and I shared the fried green tomato appetizer which I posted a picture of. One of if not the best version of this dish we have ever had. Crispy lightly breaded tomatoes layered with greens and goat cheese, surrounded by a delicious sauce that only made it better. YUM. For lunch I had the brisket of corned beef Reuben sandwich on black bread. Not a crumb left, it was outrageous. NOT fatty, just perfectly cooked shreds of corned beef with the best sauerkraut and melted swiss. Blackbread is sick, but I took of the top of each half to save calories. My wife had the fried eggplant sandwich with hummus, cucumber and goat cheese...she took all the bread away since the portion was so large and the dish so tasty that the bread seemed unnecessary! I had a taste and can vouch, wow...im getting that next time! Next time your in the area try Dog Street pub...service was great and the food was terrific. You will be pleasantly surprised at the quality nd freshness level of the food.

I loved the look of the building inside, it had a nice feel to it. The food and drinks were over priced. I had the shepherds pie and I ended up at the toilet two or three hours later. I only ate half of it because I could tell it was grease heavy. I was sicker than I ever remember being in years. I was in so much pain. It didnt even taste very good, but at $19, I didnt have the heart to just push it away after one bite! The salad that came with it was very good and I should have just eaten it, but it didnt taste that good coming back up 2 1/2 hours later. The rest of the family got burgers and they said they were good and none of them ended up sick, so I would say avoid the shepherds pie for sure!! The $4 root beer they said was a recipe of the Library of Congress want very good either. Our waiter was for sure a white supremist also because he made a comment to my husband as he was doodling (making two lightning bolts for my son) that he approved of that message. My husband had no idea what he was talking about until he googled what 2 lightening bolts together meant. I would steer you other places, as there are many other better places to eat in the area.

We sat at the bar for about 20 minutes while waiting for a table. The bartender never took our drink order and never even acknowledged we were there. The place is very load. We were seated downstairs and ordered drinks, an app, and meals. We were served water immediately and the app in about 15 minutes. After we had been there about 40 minutes (still no drinks) the waiter came by to apologize for how long our food was taking. A few minutes later he came by to tell us they were out of one of the microbrews we had ordered--he did not have a menu, so we had no idea what to substitute. We finally had enough, told the waiter we were leaving and asked for the bill for our app (which should have been comped given the horrific service) When the waiter brought the bill for the app, he told us the food we ordered (but not the drinks) was ready and he could serve it--when we said we didnt want our meals without our drinks he offered to pack it to go for us. Really???? We spoke to the manager who said they were having an off night. We wont be going back. We ended up a Sals and had a wonderful meal.

Bottom Line Up Front: Location is convenient for Colonial site seeing and dinner! Good service, good menu. Before tip, total tab was ~$40 for two beers and two dinners. Of the other shops in the square, this is the most blue collar establishment. My date and I were there at 6PM on Saturday and it was relatively packed. Despite this, we were seated in the downstairs area immediately and was visited by our waitress within 5 minutes of sitting down. We ordered two beers, which took 7 minutes to arrive. We then placed our orders. Food came back in 20 minutes. All in all, I would consider these times to be reasonable given it was a busy Saturday night. We ordered Fish & Chips and Pub Burger, both were good. You cant really go wrong with pub food, as thats most of their menu. ** Even though I give this restaurant 5-stars, I wont be going back. My date and I live in Norfolk, and so we can easily eat a snack around dinner time and simply go back home to go to a similar restaurant with more value (Public House, for example). Next time, well just be sticking with the Cheese Shop.

Just going to put it out there - I feel like we spent a lot of money for the quality of food we were given. There is an extensive beer/brew menu, but our first choices were not available and the two of us had to make other selections. Fried green tomato app would get 4 stars, but the calamari fingers were disappointing - I appreciate that the DSP was trying to put a different spin on the app with a unique cut to the squid, but they were bland and not at all crisp. I think the classic rings from smaller squid usually ends up better and crispier. The meat and the bread in the entrees were bland too. It was weird because everything looked good. The lady-fingers in the Kentucky tiramisu were very good, but the dessert came in a small dish and it seemed like the top layer was just made of cool whip, or something like it. The coffee with dessert was great. The service was good and the ambiance was nice, but for all the disappointments and the amount of money we spent, I wouldnt recommend this place to other visitors.

My fiance and I loved the food and dogs welcome vibe and other time I would give it 5 stars, but unfortunately today will be the last time we visit here. The reason is crucial lack of communication between servers. My fiance had requested a non alcholic beer with his meal. We asked what non alcoholic beers did they have and she and another man suggested bitburger non alcoholic. He agreed and we placed our drink order. We got our server switched after the drinks were in and a new server came out with our drinks including the "nonalcoholic" beer. My fiance poured it and took a drink and I took a sip. Upon realizing how good it taste, I took a look at the bottle wondering if it was a non alcholic beer. Turns out it wasnt, thus ruining my fiancé sobriety of 1 year two month. This may not be a big deal to some, but to us, it was major and unforgivable. All we got was a insincere apology, charged full price on everything and he suggested a round of tequila shots after the meal....seriously?
