My family was in Virginia Beach for our first vacation together and we thought that we would treat ourselves to some seafood and, for me, a steak. The decor of Fish Bones Restaurant was rather well worn and disappointing upon our arrival, but we were greeted by friendly staff so we rolled the dice. Our son chose the dinner seafood buffet, our daughter chose the pasta primavera, my wife chose surf & turf and I chose the ribeye steak. Salad bar was included in our meals so my wife, daughter and I went to make salads while our son went for the seafood. Our son won the dinner olympics. He was perfectly satisfied with the dinner buffet and ate until he was sated. The salad bar was disappointing as there were very few options. We would learn that the salad bar would be billed at $12.00. I would have certainly avoided the salad bar at that price. Other than underwhelming choice, my wife and daughter found the crab salad to have a rank flavor. Under seasoning seemed to plague all of the entrees. The pasta primavera sauce also had a sour, unpleasant flavor. My steak had very little seasoning or flavor (beyond the aggressive char) and was mildly rescued with ample salt. My wife found her steak to be similarly flavor-deprived and the lobster tail to be rubbery or overcooked. Our server, Colin, was kind and attentive. My wife informed him of our dissatisfaction with the meal. The manager came to our table and was, mostly, disinterested. He took the cost of the steak and lobster tail from the $42 meal cost (leaving us to pay $12.00 for the salad bar and $2.50 for the baked potato). I would recommend looking elsewhere for a special meal when visiting Virginia Beach. You may have good luck with the full dinner buffet, but the remainder of your options can leave you lighter in the wallet and hungry. Good luck!

Tasteless Overpriced Food. Four words describe this restaurant. Over Priced , Poor Quality and more importantly, one very obnoxious manager (Andre). In thirty plus years of eating out I have never experienced such poor quality, over priced food. Worse yet the manager / owner could care less but insists you pay whether you eat your entree or not. The best part of this entire meal was leaving this place! To be honest the service was good but the menu was less then exciting and the salad bar should have been called a " salad bare" , less then five items to choose from unless you count the dressings. Our food arrived and it was tasteless. Three bites into my chicken primavera I returned it and told the waitress Lindsey how disappointed I was with the meal. She advised the manager who approached my table and quickly informed me that other customers liked the taste of chicken primavera and it must be me who had a problem not their food. He didnt ask how I liked my meal or ask how the service was he just wanted to make sure I understood I was paying for my meal whether I liked it or not regardless of how much I ate. Bottom line....... If you love tasteless food and an obnoxious manager / owner then this is the place for you. If not do yourself a favor and go to Mahi Mahs where they value a customer. The price was about the same $100 plus tip and we had more food then we could eat, spectacular service (Nigel), and a great bottle of wine. No wonder we had to wait 30 min. to get into the restaurant. Fish Bones might learn a thing or two from this restaurant.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. I went to eat there last Saturday night with my mom and cousin. My mom ordered the crab legs. It was a really big plate. Anyone that has eaten crab legs knows that it takes really long to eat them.. specially for such a big plate. My mom was still eating the crab legs, when the waitress came and made us pay because they were starting to close the restaurant. We understood that, so we paid for our meal. Then a few minutes later they blinked the lights on us, as a sign that we had to hurry up. We took the hint and my mom started hurrying up to finish her plate (I even started helping her). A few minutes later the manager came out saying very rudely, that they were closing, so we had to box it up and leave. Mind you it was before 11pm on a Saturday, and we were still there eating not talking. I couldnt believe they kicked us out before she was done! That is just the rudest thing. When we left the manager didnt even say goodbye or sorry.. or anything. He was just in a hurry to get out of there. I dont think that is how you treat customers. We paid a lot of money for that plate of crab legs. They should have the decency to give us enough time to finish eating it. Otherwise they should have not served it to us in the first place, or they should have at least advised us from the start that they were in a hurry to leave. Just plain rude!

Average food at above average prices. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. It was surprisingly flavorless; the batter added nothing and the cocktail sauce that was served with it was half frozen, likely just retrieved from the walk in. The buffet was $32, so decided to do the less expensive fish and shrimp at $28. The fish was a white fish that was well cooked, but average in taste. Red Lobster could match the quality for half the price in all honesty. The fried shrimp were delicious, but there were only 4 total, so they went fast. The baked potato that came with it had the texture and taste of a potato that had been sitting under a heart lamp for awhile. The skin was dehydrated and chewy. Not a good meal overall, and certainly not anything worth $28. The only saving grace for the restaurant was the decor and staff. The waitress was pleasant and knew the menu well and the restaurant had a very friendly, relaxing vibe. Overall it was so just . . . Average. I wouldnt recommend it to friends though considering every meal (aside from sandwiches) is $20+, with the average being $26. The food did not justify the price.

My husband and I went there for dinner, but left hungry. After waiting for close to 35 minutes and the food was still not being served, we paid for our cocktails and walked out. The so called manager was arrogant and couldve cared less if we stayed or left. Another one of the staff literally threw our waitress under the bus, saying, "this is her first day." I quickly responded to her, it had nothing to do with the waitress, unless she was cooking the food, too. I feel bad for the waitress and hopefully, she will find other employment. If that jerk manager treated customers so rudely, I cant imagine working for him. With that being said, he should get a job that doesnt involve dealing with people, because he basically sucks at it. If he stays there, the place will probably be closed very soon. Learn some people skills, you stiff. Mr. & Mrs. Piazza July 27, 2015

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Im a disabled Navy Veteran with a service dog who is trained and behaved. She also had her vest on. The Manager told me that my service dog was fake because I can walk well. When I showed him the service dog card he states "I can buy one of these online for $20" Then he told "You walk fine, you cant even be disabled!" I am appalled and floored by this. Everyone should boycott this restaurant and they should be SHUT DOWN. When I asked for his boss the manager refused to give me contact information. This is the worst service Ive EVER had in my life. If the owner of this shop doesnt fire the manager and contact me to potential resolve this I am going to take legal action. YOU REFUSED SERVICE TO A DISABLED VETERAN AND HIS WIFE!!! NEVER EVER COME TO THIS PLACE!!!
