I was out celebrating my birthday with my boyfriend, and decided to stop in here and try something totally different. So we got the Mexican street corn appetizer and chips and salsa of course. For our meals.... I got the quesadilla shrimp taco thing and a DOS Eqis "beer" to drink. My boyfriend got a shrimp taco, a shredded chicken taco and a peach/wine thing with fruit in it to drink. Enough for 4 glasses. We both ate the same things. And I drank a glass of his peach stuff. Only thing I didnt try was his chicken taco. "Im not a fan of chicken" and by the time we finished, paid and got back home he was complaining about really bad stomach pains So bad we were not able to go and finish celebrating my birthday that night. Ill give it to Calliente Cantina though they have some awesome shrimp tacos. The peach/wine thing though was horrible! It didnt taste like it had everything in it. It was suppose to have brandy in it as well. All we tasted was watered down peach. For 15.00? I could have gotten something else. But I will say we will NOT be going back to the place. The bad out weighed the good in this situation.

Worst food and service I have ever had. I am a former chef and I have never been so disappointed in my life. We were a party of 5 and not a single person received a correct order. The grilled chicken sandwich was suppose to have no cole slaw and it was smoother in it. The steak was over cooked and lathered in a gravy that was coagulated like it had been sitting in a warmer since they opened. We received two burgers that were still mooing as if they had been on the grill for five seconds, when they were suppose to have been medium and medium well. Our two year old son didnt even touch his mac and cheese and when we asked for milk the server said they dont have any. Well how the hell did the people in the kitchen make the mac and cheese!? Our drinks were never refilled and then our server had the audacity to act like no ones order was wrong when she gave us our bill. Never will I stop foot in that place again!

This is a great place!!! The food is awesome and the service was exceptional. I was concerned initially that the menu offerings would be too much - in volume as well as calories, as I watch my fat and carb intake closely. What a surprise! I ordered the pork chop and it was grilled perfectly. I had the apples and onion topping put on the side, in case it was too much, or too saucy. I wouldnt hesitate to have them on top next time - not too saucy at all and just the right amount. For sides, I had the corn on the cob and the collard greens. Perfect! I ordered the Hendricks Rickey for a drink and it was great, too. Others at the table ordered the Big Kids grilled cheese, the classic burger, and fried shrimp. Everyone was extremely pleased with the food. This is a new favorite for sure!!

Service was kinda slow saw my food sitting there waiting to be served, but the waitress didnt really pay attention to it... Waited 25 minutes to get tacos two tacos. It wasnt very busy (4 tables to serve). Fish tacco was kinda dry... and the beans of the burrito didnt really look good (see picture) Staff was not very friendly , and I didnt feel welcomed here. Food was very basic, but not originally Mexican ... seemed more like the quality of a fast food chain(but slower). Used the restroom , floor was sticky and the toilets could use some daily cleaning. The idea is cool, nice logos, cool tables but I think the Mexican cook is missing and the Mexican grandmother that tells them what to do :) Would not recommend this place.

Americans in a Mexican restaurant is the worst. First, the food isnt all that great. I ordered a burrito with rice & beans.. These Americans brought out pinto beans and hard a** uncooked rice. The waitress had the nerve to give me a sad look like she was the one who cooked it... It was such a disappointment being here. At least I can say I tried their food.... Oh an they barely put any ice in my soda cup. Really!?... I just cant get over the pinto beans... They play American pop songs (Usher songs). I cant get the Mexican experience.... They suck! They need to see this review and get it together. Hire Mexicans. An dont serve uncooked no flavor rice.

Server Bree was wonderful. Happy Hour Margherita was just okay. Brisket taco and Shrimp Bang tacos were good. Avocado taco was underwhelming at best, avocado was not ripe. Menu is completely ala carte which is okay. Chips and salsa served upon being seated. Salsa was good, chips fresh. Pretty good, but not our style for mexican. Sour cream and guacamole offered as sides for a price...This review was for Caliente Cantina, the previous name for this restaurant. It has just reopened (6/2017) under the name listed above. My understanding is same ownership, new direction. I am looking forward to dining here and will post a new review accordingly.

Ive had MUCH better. I had the chicken enchiladas. It was meh at best. The beans...meh, the rice...meh. I had better food from Plaza Azteca & Baja Cantina. Both only a few minutes away from this restaurant. I paid the same amount from those other restaurants and WAAAY better tasting. I dont know where those 4 & 5 ratings come from. Maybe the staff but keeping it real, dont waste your money. Again Plaza Azteca & Baja Cantina is much better. Both are literally a few minutes away from this restaurant so you got options bruh

Worse services ever. Came here with a group and ordered water. Well 45 minutes, still no water. One child asked for chicken nugggets (its on the menu) and you bring her corn dogs and say that you dont ha e nuggets. My son ordered his Nachos a certain way and you come back and say that he cant have it that way so he reorders a taco, and after 20 minutes of waiting, we are told that other orders come before his. Really? Very disappointed with his restaurant. We will never come back here.

My name is Ben Gross. I was born in New York City. I grew up in Norfolk, VA and now live in Virginia Beach. In 2018 I will run for Virginia Beach City Council. I am also in the restaurant business. I know food. This place is very good. It is very, very good. For our community and our palates. I am sorry to see some negative reviews for this restaurant. In fact, it embarrasses me to see them. This is a very good restaurant.

Second visit last night. First visit on opening night was great. Last night not so great. Spiced taco which was not spicey, Chicken taco not good, beef taco full of gristle, had two top shelf Margaritas that were $15 A PIECE. Waiter did not tell us the price. He said "oooppps, I guess I should have told you." Total bill was over $70 for four tacos and four Margaritas (two happy hour and two top shelf). We will never go there again.

Have been here several times but to be honest the food is really bad. Not authentic at all. Waited over an hour for food at table. Tacos ! Same with my guest neither of us could eat our meal. Previous times the fried food (taquitos) were so over cooked you could not cut them. Very disappointing to pay for food that is not edible....suggestions.....pay top dollar for your cook staff if you dont you loose customers.
