We were driving back from Florida and weve been driving for about 20 hours and Dots Back Inn was the first real restaurant we have eaten at since we drove home. We were really excited to eat at a diner drive in and dive. When we got there we asked to sit outside and they said no we will find u a table inside. She didnt even answer our question. So being a little ticked off we asked for a table inside and they wouldnt even seat us when one of our party of 5 was outside parking the car. One of the party of 5 asked for and ice coffee and our waitress said no so fast u couldnt really understand her. We didnt have any silverware and since we spilled a bit of our drink we needed napkins she was so annoyed that we asked for silverware she was like Im really busy and Ill get to it when I get to it I dont know of u can see but I have other tables to take orders from too. When we got our food 2 out of the 5 liked their food. Their burgers were good but the pulled pork u didnt know what u were chewing at times. We asked for a specific dessert that someone recommended and we said it wrong and she was like no we dont have that in the snottiest way possible but then she was like we do have this but not until 5. They have a sign that said if your grumpy grouchy or whininy they would make u pay a 10 dollar fine this was obviously a joke but these are almost the exact descriptions of our waitress. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice cozy restaurant with good food and good service. What a dissapointment I think overall Its not a place u should eat at and I will NOT be returning.

Dots Back Inn is a great neighborhood diner. They do breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and are usually pretty crowded. Now that theres no smoking in Richmond restaurants, I go there regularly with my family. Theres a bucket of toys for the kids, and as long as they wash their hands before and after, we figure theyre not going to catch anything too serious. The food is quite good for the money and the type of restaurant it is. Lots of side dishes, like broccoli, kale, collards, etc. They do a nice job with fish, and theres always some kind of fish on the menu. Ive started to really like the blackened ribeye. For the price, its a nice piece of meat -- a medium rare steak, blackened with the spices they put on it, is really good. My only wish is that Dots would open for breakfast earlier than 9 a.m. I think id go there more often if I could get there at 8 or even earlier. Dots sometimes takes a while to get you your food. The kitchen is small and the space is usually crowded, so dont get all upset if things take a while. They give you fair warning on the menus and on signs in the restaurant that this is not a fast food place. Sip your Legend Brown Ale, watch your kids play with toys, and just have a relaxed conversation with your significant other. The food will get there when it gets there, and it will be good and hot.

No idea how this place has such a high rating, everybody must have their bad nights. I took my mom in there as she is staying at a home nearby and people had told me it was a good place. Nothing wrong with the actual set up of the restaurant, it was clean (though cluttered with knick nacks which is kinda neat) however the food I got was garbage. I ordered a hamburger medium rare. What I got was a patty that was burnt to a crisp on a bun that had previously been toasted but left to the air to get cold and stale and fries so brown from over frying I had to drown them in ketchup to choke them down. I know exactly why, the cook decided he was going to exit the kitchen and hoop it up with some girls dancing to CCR at the end of the bar for about 5 minutes and didnt go back in until the song was over. The best part of my entire meal was a pickle and a beer and the waitress who was quick fast and in a hurry and wasted no time taking care of us. Ill give it another shot considering everyone says its awesome, but I will do so hesitantly.

Today I had my first and last visit at Dots Back Inn and "Dot" is probably rolling over in her grave right now. It was THE WORST SERVICE Ive ever had in my entire dining experience life. The waitress walked away from us while we were asking her a question about the menu, wouldnt allow me to change my order only minutes after I saw the tuna that was the special, got my order wrong with my side salad I swapped out for an additional charge, and then asked me if my day was ruined since they didnt have croutons. OMG, I have never in my life experienced anything like it. She was extremely arrogant about the whole thing and refused to comp anything off the ticket although I didnt eat half of my mushy bean burger and didnt even touch my salad. I immediately called to speak to the owner after getting in the car and talked to the waitress on the phone who lied to me about having seen the owner that another wait staff told me was actually there. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!

Great spot for Sunday morning brunch. Ive been there a few times and the wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. They move quickly too so we have never waited long after ordering to get our food. The food is good, and probably under priced, which is a rare find in RVA. Dont go in expecting this to provide a trendy brunch for you and your girlfriends though. No gluten-free waffles with locally sourced berries and syrup made from free-range maple trees served alongside carafes of mimosas here, lol. This is definitely an awesome old-fashioned kind of place, which was exactly what I was looking for on this particular occasion. Ordered eggs over medium which were cooked perfectly, and the sides came in ample proportions. This is definitely a spot Id come back to if Im in the mood for good traditional breakfast food again!

Showed up for lunch today, and because only 3 of our party of 4 were present, they wouldnt seat us. Our fourth was only about two minutes away. The party in front of us got seated with only 3 out of 4 present because I watched their driver drop them off out front while he went to park. The "hostess" actually told us which table to head for, but when the group behind us told her they were a party of 2, for some reason her mind changed and then informed us that she couldnt seat a party without everyone present, and she sent the group behind us to the table. Good job hostess! You just cost Dots four loyal customers that wont be returning anytime soon. We headed to Va Barbeque and had a great lunch. Dots just isnt the same neighborhood restaurant it used to be.

Delicious brunch at incredibly reasonable prices, with super fast and friendly service. We had the huevos rancheros and a veggie omelette, and both were huge and truly delicious. The kids had pancakes and they were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. My daughter are the whole pancake, which tells me that it was delicious. Books and crayons are provided for the little ones, and tons of beers, wines, and brunch cocktails are on offer for the big ones. But the food is the star of the show. The only downside is that the restaurant is small, so youll be waiting 15 minutes for a table. Worth the wait!
