The only restaurant in Orange that serves a gluten free beer! Its Redbridge, of course, and its expensive but... well, you cannot take that away from it. (Edit: Theyre still the only restaurant, but its now of course much cheaper to get it from the grocery store in town now that you dont have to drive to Culpeper or Charlottesville to find it.) The Light Well has a lot going for it, with perhaps the greatest of those being that it isnt the Silk Mill. I hade huge hopes when it first opened, in part because the owner mentioned that their sister.was a Celiacs suffered and that they would have GF options "in the next month." Several years later they have the same non-GF menu where even the burgers come without mention of being loaded with breadcrumbs. Which sucks. The place has a good atmosphere, though when they have live music you might as well forget about anything like conversation and just hold yourself over for apathetic applause over some drinks. The rating (4/5) is as a non-Celiacs sufferer. Drop that by one, maybe two, stars if you are a sufferer if only because they never held up to their promises and their menu doesnt warn you of the hidden ingredients and the next few days sitting on a porcelain seat.

Great restaurant with friendly staff and fun menu. So many small Virginia towns have their version of this restaurant. The long retail model buildings from the 20s through the 50s, converted to about 50 restaurant seats and maybe 20 bar seats. This one, though, has a friendly group of helping-each-other staff (they were very busy when we arrived) and a thoughtful menu which included just enough items to make it tough for you to choose between a couple. A delightful find!

The hours of operation always seemed to change. From 10 to 11 then back to 10. Most of the time the place is closed for a private event. They serve breakfast but the service is very slow. I recommend if you go here when they come for your drink orders order your food as well otherwise you will be there all day. Wait staff for the most part is forgetful at best. Constantly have to remind them of extras that you asked for. Price is a little high for the lack of service.

The $3 they charge for one piece of toast is insane especially when its charred black. No clue how that made it out of the kitchen. Weak, cool $2 coffee. Most of our food was half way cooked and the manager blamed us for not understand the custard to cream ratio of the French toast. Soggy bread is soggy bread, sorry. Uts fine for locals who dont know any better but any one else stay away.

I would not expect such a great restaurant hiding in the tiniest downtown kinda in the middle of nowhere! I think most of their ingredients are locally grown, and made fresh there. The price is great. I got a burger, a cake, and a latte all just for $22. My friend and I did not have one not-so-good thing to say about this place and their food. I already want to go back again already.

Nice casual dining atmosphere. Local beef is used for all their burgers, they roast their own coffee (which is excellent) and have a great selection of beer. Live, local music on the weekends. The staff was friendly and service was quick. We will go back if were ever back in the area.

The seasonal vegetable chimichanga listed with corn and bean salsa came out with spinach, mushrooms & onions and no corn and bean salsa. Tropicosmopolitan cocktail was delicious. Seems rather ridiculous not to honor a request to change a side from a baked potato to a simple salad.

Great food, friendly folks, excellent atmosphere. Its a little expensive for the meal you get, but the atmosphere is worth it. Its a good place to be local to. I go for coffee, dinner, drinks and food wifi for studying and work. Nice rotating taps. Try the potato salad.

Told us it would be a 10 min wait, but took 30 min, even though there were 5 empty tables when we sat down that were never occupied during the meal. Ordered Fettuccini Alfredo, it was bland and tasted off, then gave me food poisoning for a week. Horrible experience

Stopped here for lunch and coffee/tea. The coffee and tea were solid. All four of us had the half sandwich and soup, which was satiating without being too large of a portion. Sandwiches were enjoyable. Friendly and flexible toward bringing children.

It took an hour to be served our food. It should not take an hour to cook two burgers. That is ridiculous. The restaurant seems greatly understaffed. Only recommended if you are not hungry yet and dont mind spending two hours at lunch.

I hate when I go have coffee and the mugs are stained on the inside. Either bleach them or buy dark colors . Every time I go I never get my whats on the menu either they are out of something . Or they dont serve it ..

Stopped in here with my daughter for Sunday brunch. The menu was full of dishes with local products. The grass fed beef burger and the chicken club sandwich were both delicious. And the atmosphere was cozy as well.

Very cool. In town for one night and was seated 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. Great food and a great environment. Staff was very attentive and five stars on the creme brulee.
