Good food, but bad atmosphere. The Wine Kitchen in Frederick, Maryland is fabulous, but the one is Leesburg leaves a lot to be desired and I will not eat there again. In Frederick, you can choose your own two or three course lunch that is priced at a very substantial savings over buying the items individually, but Leesburg does not have that pricing option at all, so it turned out to be fairly pricey for what you got. (A two-course lunch with one appetizer and wine flights for four people was $150, plus tip.) The Frederick facility also is beautifully decorated and has a wonderful atmosphere and relaxing view, while the Leesburg facility is like eating at a very bland and cramped bus station waiting room with a bar taking up much of the space. I was shocked at how bland the place was painted and how drab it seemed, which would explain why they never show any interior shots of the Leesburg location on the Wine Kitchen website. And the hostess who seated us had a dead-tired disposition and would not let us sit at the table we wanted because she claimed it was the only table that could seat 5 and we had only 4 people. (Only two other customers ever came during the entire lunch, since it was a Wednesday lunch two weeks before Christmas and the town was dead, so the larger table was set aside for nothing as it turned out. And there would have been two empty tables of four that could easily have been pushed together to seat a larger group if the hostess really wanted to think outside the box.) The food was generally good, but it did not come close to making up for the cramped facility and total lack of atmosphere. Save your money and try anything else. (By the way, I did see one review claiming that this is the best place to eat in Leesburg. If that is true, Im never going back to Leesburg!)

The Wine Kitchen may not be for everyone. Its small, acoustically bright, and doesnt accept reservations. The fact that, despite this, theres always a considerable wait for the few tables, should tell diners something. During your wait, the owners themselves will happily chat with you while you sip a generously poured glass of the interesting and very reasonably priced wine (take a bottle home for ten bucks off the menu price) and once you do sit down, the food is superb. The wine kitchen turns out flavorful, perfectly executed bistro fare, mostly for around 14 bucks per entree (nothing was more than 17). The food is full of thoughtful touches, like a small cup of cold milk served alongside the seasonal cheesecake. Some reviewers have called the Wine Kitchen pricey, but theres not a deal like it in the area. My husband enjoyed a three flight wine tasting for eight dollars, and the dishes are rich enough to share. Its not the place for large groups, for many reasons, but for a dinner for two, its my new favorite in the DC area. ps. If noise is a real turn-off for you, come during off-hours. The Wine Kitchen serves lunch and doesnt close between lunch and dinner. A very late meal will also be relatively peaceful.

Some friends took us here and I had mixed feelings about the place. Decor was great, the wine selection wasnt just Californian or Californian tasting foreign wines they actaully had some good French Bordeaux. The wine flights/ tasters are a great idea and they have a large selection from all around the world. Now the food was well presented but was overly priced and bad, I had a steak that was tougher than floor boards which may of been a one off but the wait staff didnt offer to re-do another, knock the price off the bill or even apologise in any way for it. The rest of the food at our table wasnt overly good either. As to seating someone else here mentioned people being seated before them, I can say this also happened to use also, they seemed to be regulars that came in after us but were seated ahead of us in line. The wine though is very good shame about the rest, I do need to go back once more sometime just to see if the food was just bad that night or not but havent as yet, if I do I will amend this review if needed.

Mister Hyde in the restaurant Dr. Jekyll in the kitchen (probably the reason of the Michelin star) First: the owner. He doesnt know what he should do and hes dressed like a football fan at the stadium on Sunday, sweaty and cuffed on the shorts: disgusting. He doesnt direct, he just counts the money and when we enter with a reservation, he merely show us the table, as in any bar. Second: more than 2 hours at the table for only an appetizer and a main dish: inacceptable. Third: the staff is too large for the size of the room and moves at random, but here it is always the fault of the boss whos total unable Fourth: good tastes, wonderful decoration and presentation of dishes plus some great idea. Desserts are painful for the great Hungarian tradition

This place is much better than some of the reviews. You should definitely dine here and prepare to enjoy. Heck go weekly. I started with a white wine flight, the soup, then red, red meat for dinner and a dessert. It was all fantastic, prepared with care, served properly and at the right temp, cooked perfectly. Service was excellent, not too much but a full water glass all night. Do come here and dont believe some of those reviews, youll kick yourself for not coming. I was in town from California on business. Make my own wine. Theyve found some great wine to taste at good prices. Try Tuesday Night Reds tasting, any day not just Tuesday.

I believe this one is in Leesburg VA. Not as great as the one in Frederick MD. I love love love the one in Frederick! This was nice. The wine was great but our food was lacking in taste. I dont know if the wine was so good it made the food second place or if the food was just lacking period! We had a good time none the less. The place had good service and was clean. Given the day we were in says a lot about that in itself! It was a day with a car show in town and a lot was going on. Everyplace was packed but we were seated and given a great deal of attention do to the days goings on. I would definitely recommend the Wine Kitchen!

I wasnt sure what to expect when I first walked into the Wine Kitchen. It is quite small but dont be deceived by the size, this place is AMAZING. From start to finish everything was top notch. Food was anazing with some unique appetizers and side dishes. Our waitress was wonderful. Great personality and she was always there when needed but never bothersome. The entire staff really seem to take pride in their work. The only thing I could find any fault in would be the bathroom. Only one for entire restaurant and it couldve smelled a little fresher.

Been there twice (Leesburg and Pville) and both times were similarly bad experiences. We are vegan and they claim to be happy to accommodate, but they failed miserably. We have the same issue a every restaurant, and we understand its not easy to feed a vegan, but if we leave hungry, unhappy and have spent well over $100 for a couple overpriced ($14 each) glasses of wine and two "tapas" style entrees, you have lost our business forever. It probably is not a bad place to go if youre a meat eater, but it seems way overpriced for Purcellville VA.
