So I needed to have something delivered and I could not choke down another Pizza, chinese or sub dinner!!! So i found this place delivered and decided since it was just me and my daughter, we would have a girls night, pretend trip to India dinner. I had Indian food only once before in my life and that was when a Friend from India, made Chicken Curry for me... that was the extent of my experiance. When I called, the gentleman who answered was very patient with my questions. I told him my daughter and I had very bland palets and couldnt tolerate anything too spicy. I asked him what he recommended for our unexperianced American taste, and he suggested the combo #2 and a side of chicken curry. My daughter and I layed down a blanket, wrapped scarfs around our shoulder, put on A.R. Rahman and set our dinner placement on the floor. When the delivery guy came, he was so nice! He taught my daughter how to say, "How are you?" and invited us to try the lunch buffet to experiance more Indian food. The meal was delicious and was a very different meal for us. We enjoyed our girls night "in India" and the staff at Clay oven were a big reason why, along with the amazing food. We will see you on Sunday for the buffet! Thank you for your kindeness! P.s. idk what the small container with the sweet purple sauce was, but WOW, make sure you try it!

I have been to many Indian restaurants in my past. I called up this place to order a chicken biryani to go. It is a pretty small place and was packed. So I was very excited about the food. I am from Hyderabad. So generally you have your expectations very high. But over the years I have learnt that not everyone is equipped to pull Hyderabadi biryani off. So with this place I had very modest expectations. When I went back, I got the shock of my life. It was no where close to being a biryani. It looked more like chicken fried rice. Well it is an insult even if I compare to chicken fried rice. They charged my 18 bucks for uncooked chicken and rice. What was even worse was their raitha was super smelly. Just threw the entire thing off. Any one is free to do business here, but not in disguise of an Indian restaurant. I am absolutely surprised that they have 4 stars. Can be two things, either people who have food here have no clue what Indian food is or it is the management whose writing up these reviews. It basically sucks. I would not even have given them 1 star, If your from India and you stay in Frederick area. Avoid this restaurant, your bound to get disappointed. Not worth a penny.

Recently ordered from here using BeyondMenu as that is the only way to get free delivery from here unless you call. The orders are sent via fax and I ordered at 6pm, come 8pm no food has been delivered!! I called in and asked if they got my order - nope! Apparently the fax didnt go through, but I got charged. I called BeyondMenu who refunded my order. Right after I received a call back from Clay Oven asking if I still wanted the food. I was super hungry and ready for bed. They quickly took my card over the phone and got my food to me in 10 minutes! Not only that, but gave me like a double-sized naan bread (yummy, try it with honey) and a free mango smoothie which was totally tasty. They were very apologetic and let me know just to call in the order next time. They have great compassion and customer service, great food too. Cant ask for more.

This is one of those great hole in the wall places. Not too familiar with Indian food around Frederick, but Im familiar with Indian food in general, and this was pretty good. The food was flavorful and well done. Not as sophisticated as some other places Ive been to, but they had all the dishes I love and they did them well. The service was great too. I was on crutches, and the staff made sure I was comfortable and helped me with my crutches and everything. Orders were taken and food served quickly, and they did a really good job checking up on us during our meal without being intrusive. And the prices were great! All in all, it was a great experience and one I would highly recommend.

I ordered dinner at 8:25pm last night and was told it would be ready in 20 mins. I ordered Chana Marsala, chicken biryani, spinach and potatoes and 4 naan. After making a stop I got home to find there was no spinach in the bag. I called today at 1:30pm and spoke with AJ, who told me he would replace my dinner if I came in then or after 5pm. I arrived at 5:18pm only to be told AJ was not there and that they could not and would not replace my meal. This soured my experience and I would not recommend anyone visit the Clay Oven in Frederick MD. They dont bother to make sure theyre giving you what you ordered nor do they keep theyre word on promises made to paying customers!!!!!

Unfortunately the food was hardly edible. I ordered a chicken tikka masala dish and a comparable beef dish and found the beef to have little taste and was rock hard. My seven year old daughter could cook better beef. The beef was not tender at all. The chicken dish also had little flavor and was poorly cooked. The survive was great and the atmosphere was nice but the food was horrible. Even the garlic naan was poorly made. They just threw garlic pieces on it and didnt even cook it. So I would have to give this restaurant one star and will not be returning.

Ive had Clay Oven plenty of times, usually home delivery. The food is very good with the only weaknesses being their vegetarian dishes. Their Chicken, lamb, goat dishes are great. Their delivery is usually pretty quick too. Its well worth giving them a shot if you like this popular kind of Indian food. Youll probably like the portion sizes too. Pros - Prices, portion sizes, satisfying, people are lovely. Cons - Quality is a little less than Dehli 6 on some things, but Dehli dont deliver. (I also think Clay Oven is just as satisfying)

always excellent food and service (and as someone else pointed out, the lunch buffet is great). They have a wide variety of dishes (spicy to not) that allow for any family to eat there. @Anish -- really? w/o naming a single one of the "better" places, youre rating is useless. Weve eaten at several indian places around Frederick, and while none of them are bad, Clay Oven definately is an all around winner.

Food was good. Service was poor. Server acted like he didnt want to serve us. He was very short with us. And we were the only customers in the restaurant. I verbalized this issue with the manager politely. He ignored me and continued on his way. He didnt care. We will not be going there again. If you dont care about professionalism and industry standard then not a bad place at all.

Food can best be described as horrible. Anyone who gives it more than one star doesnt know Indian cuisine. It gives Indian food a bad name. I usually come home hungry from the parties that cater from Clay Oven. Have mercy on your taste buds and avoid this place. I wouldnt have given it even one star if werent for its nice staff.
