What a lovely discovery! After a long and tiring day in Heathsville at VA Garden Week we were looking for a nice meal to cap off our beautiful visit. Lancaster Tavern was an inspired choice. My scallops over creamed corn with garlic cream sauce was perfect and my husbands filet with gorgonzola looked fantastic. Everything, from our drinks to the yummy bread pudding, was great and the server was responsive (and fun). We will be looking for a reason to head back to the Northern Neck to enjoy Lancaster Tavern again!!!

Generally a good place for lunch and dinner; however, my fried oysters were very disappointing. They were not hot inside, and they were very dark in color, indicating they need to change the cooking oil immediately. If they did that, they would be able to cook them long enough to at least heat them through and, at the same time, not overcook them. I sure hope they read these reviews and make some changes!

Super place-decor is great. Loved the bees in the wall. Food taste was excellent and so was the cooking of my food. That being said. My food was cold when it got to my table. Service was sub par. Stingy with bread. Truffle Mac n cheese was excellent. This should have been a better dining experience for both price and ambiance.

Lancaster tavern is an historic site established in mid to late 18th century. Its a lovely and romantic place to enjoy a quiet meal. The food is generally good but has been hit or miss the last few visits, leaning towards being over seasoned for my taste. They have a good wine selection and offer premium cocktails.

Great food and service, but the décor and atmosphere of the main dining room are dated. The filet was perfectly cooked; the Oysters Rockefeller were tender and flavorful, and the Caesar salad was fresh and well prepared. They have a limited list of bottled beers, but the Ale Werks brown ale was very good.

Great Southern breakfasts. The dinner menu is in my opinion expensive and spotty, but the likeliest spots (e.g., crabcakes, local fish) are invariably good. The location in a colonial-era building will be fun for tourists, with a low ceiling that recalls the cosiest English public houses.

Food is awesome if you can get it. The servers were nice but seemed overwhelmed. We ordered clam chowder and wine. The wine never came. Bread was cold and came after we had finished the chowder. They never offered dessert.

Not a tavern at all. This is a nice bistro. A place you would bring your mom to. I would felt more comfortable if I wore a polo, not t-shirt and shorts. Great food great atmosphere.
