So we are frequent diners in Front Royal because we travel through there every other weekend from Harrisonburg and are always looking for new places to eat. We like to try to eat local as opposed to chain places, so we were excited to find the Melting Pot Pizza. The restaurant only accepts cash, but theres an on site ATM. Parking is terrible as they have a small lot on site, but we parked half a block away at a bank that was closed. The place was packed when we arrived, which was around 630 PM on a Friday night. We were seated and greeted quickly, which was lucky because there was a long wait, but there was only 2 of us, so we got sat right away. Our server was very friendly and prompt with her service. My wife ordered a pepperoni pizza (personal size) and I ordered wings and fries. We also ordered fried pickles as appetizers. Everything was pretty decent EXCEPT THE PIZZA!! The pizza had literally ZERO FLAVOR. My wife never complains about food in a restaurant, but she had a look of confusion on her face, because she said the pizza literally had no taste. I tasted it as well, and had to agree. The crust tasted like nothing and so did the sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. It also came out on a pizza pan with cardboard directly underneath the pizza. It looked like a frozen pizza from Kroger, except a frozen pizza tastes better. Oddly enough, the pizza looked good when it came out, but it literally tasted like nothing. The wings were pretty tasty and so were the fried pickles, but for a place with PIZZA in the name, the pizza should be the best thing they make and it was terrible. The only reason Im giving this place 2 stars is because our server was very good and the wings were ok. I would not recommend this place to anyone whos looking for good pizza. I can only explain all the high rated reviews for this restaurant to be based on 2 possible factors: either no one in Front Royal has ever had actually good pizza or their taste buds have been totally destroyed by some unknown pathogen or drug. Dont be fooled by the 4 and 5 star reviews, this place is not good and we wont be back.

At 4:00 today I called to order a small pizza. Spoke with a very friendly female over the phone who took the order and said it should be ready for delivery in 15 mins. GREAT. Im working, Im tired, and I havent eaten all day. A hour goes by so I call again trying to figure out what is going on and where my order is...... I now speak with a male who comes off a very rude with me over the phone and says..... Well our delivery guy doesnt come in until five. I told him that I was never informed of this when I initially called in to place the order and that I wanted to cancel. He assures me that my food is just coming out of the oven and it will be here in a few short minuets. Im a patient and understanding person so I agree to it. Thirty five minuets go by and still NOTHING. I call back in and speak with a young girl. Explain the situation and request to CANCEL my order. She tells me she wants me to speak with a manager. I say thank you. She comes back to phone and tells me her manager is too busy to talk to me, she wont call the delivery guy to cancel the order, I need to tell him myself and she gets off the phone. I felt horrible not taking the food from the delivery guy. I explained everything to him and I could tell he was just as frustrated about the situation as I was........ I grew up on Melting Pot Pizza. I have never had a bad experience. Always great food and exceptional service. Today I was totally blown away by the un-professionalism of the staff and not to mention the disrespect to there own employee refusing to contact him to let him know I had canceled my order. I really hope that this was just a "bad day" and not a common occurrence.

Been a customer for a long time, great pizza! However, as of late, had a change of taste and have been subbing mushrooms for Canadian bacon on their meat lovers pizza. The first time I did this, they charged me for the mushrooms as an additional topping. When I asked to speak to the manager and made him aware of the situation, I heard him give the cashier the business saying they had had this conversation before, and he made it right. Ive placed the same order several times since then and was not charged for the mushroom substitution. Today I placed the same order and was yet again charged for substitution. When I reached out to the manager this time, I was told that this was policy as the meat lovers pizza is a special, and that they didnt have the ability to sub toppings due to their pos system. What a joke! So the skinny is this: both toppings are the same price as add ons on the menu, and you want to charge me to swap toppings of the same value on the menu. As well as being told two different versions of your policy on this matter. Congrats melting pot, you just lost a customer willing to pay over $20 for a large pizza, which by the way, is way more than any competitor. I dont mind paying for quality, but I do mind being taken advantage of. Btw, the additional topping price is $1.90 for a large. Do the math on how many people dont even pay attention. Greed is unbecoming!

I moved to Front Royal about 5 years ago and heard about the Melting Pot. One evening we ordered subs for the entire family. Needless to say, we thought the food came from south of the border, as everyone who ate the food got extremely sick. A few years later, without my knowledge, my neice order pizza and subs for her family, the same thing happened. They all got sick to their stomachs. The place looks pretty dumpy from the outside and appears to be the big hangout/watering hole for the locals. My suggestion is to pass on the Melting Pot, pretty much pass on most all of the mom and pop type Restaurants in Front Royal. Ive eaten at most all of them, and the quality pretty much is consistent, poor. The only exceptions is probably Spelunkers, Golden China, or the Main Street Mill, which are not bad, or the usual fast food joints/chain restaurants where you know at least what you are going to get. If you dont mind driving for a good pizza, Romas restaurant in Stephens City, or the Italian Touch Restaurant in Middletown are far better choices.

Excellent thin crust pizza, excellent toppings done in just the right amounts to give great balance, and a good enough beer selection to make you wish this place was in your college town when you were still in school. 1/2 Star off because its a cash-only establishment (though i sometimes think thats an advantage to help keep it a small local establishment and not sell out to the tastes of an ever changing group of outsiders). Another 1/2 star off for good, but not great atmosphere. In addition to the window tables, booths, and bar, I could easily see pulling a line of tables in favor of a darts area (or similar distraction) which could be used during slower times. Add a wide range of Rogue brews and you would have a full 5 Star college-style establishment.
