OK. So this Golden Corral location has had its ups and downs. My wife and I have been long time customers of the Roanoke, VA location and that one is always consistent in quality of food and service. When this Christiansburg location opened up it was almost on par with the Roanoke one. Almost. If the Roanoke location was an A+, this one was a solid B or B+ depending on the day. Over the past year or so, it has ranged more from a C to a D- depending on the day. The last time we visited, we decided to remove it from our rotation because Golden Corral is not a very cheap place to eat and if we are going to pay $30 for two people we want to get our moneys worth. So, today (10.28.16) we were looking for somewhere to eat that was quick and where we could get some vegetables with our meal and decided it had been long enough that we should try GC again. We entered at about 2pm and it was not busy but not dead either. After we got our food, we both looked at each other like "Hmmm... maybe they are turning it around." But we were still skeptical. While going back for seconds I saw something that gave me a lot of hope for this location. There is a certain manager from the Roanoke location who always speaks to my wife and me, is super, super nice and seems to really keep any crew working under him on point and doing a great job. We give him the credit for why that Roanoke location is always consistent. Not only is he a funny, nice guy - he is professional and cares about his job. Well, while I was walking across the room, I saw him exit the kitchen area of the Christiansburg location and start prowling the bar, looking for anything out of order. I thought to myself "Yes! Maybe the Cburg location has a chance." Later in the meal, my wife had a chance to talk with him and he came over to our table to talk for a minute. He said he had been at this location for about four months and wouldnt be here permanently but that he was there for a while to get the Cburg crew up to par. If todays visit is any indication, they are off to a good start. We are pulling for this Golden Corral because we really like it as a restaurant and want it to stay in the area. The only thing we didnt like about this visit was that our server didnt come back to our table after her initial visit... until the manger came over to talk to us... then she buzzed by and refilled my iced tea on the run. She didnt ask if I wanted sweet or unsweet, and just filled me up with sweet tea. I am one of the only people in the South that prefers unsweet tea (apparently) so Im used to getting sweet tea for my refill, but if the server doesnt even ask, I notice that. No biggie, but it did make me roll my eyes. I tend to give servers the benefit of the doubt though, because I know its a low paying, thankless job. It takes a lot for me to complain. Despite that hiccup, this was a great visit. If you have stopped going to this Golden Corral because of a bad experience, I would encourage you to try it one more time. This new manager is awesome at his job and really seems to have the team there on target. Now if they would only add that giant peanut butter cookie with the fudge brownie icing to their dessert bar... :)

Great food, but poor management is best to describe this place. When it comes to servicing food, they are spot on. However career or job opportunities are about as the famed Batman villain "Two Face". On one side of the coin they want somebody committed and NOT someone that is a "fill in the gap" job. That kind of impression is good when it comes to looking for those willing to give it their all for a place like Golden Corral. However, with that being said, organization and prioritizing on time is something lack there of to be described. One moment to be scheduled for an interview, only later be told ONCE arriving "promptly" that "they" didnt know you were suppose to show up and be told to go home and "wait" to be called. Wait to be called? NOT proper business practice coming from an establishment bickering about looking for "dedicated people" to stick around for "several" years. A "proper" establishment communicates, and follows through with the set plan. THAT IS how business is DONE! NOT pull this two face communication. Apparently it seems management wise that Golden Corral in Christiansburg, VA has a lot to still live up to when it comes to the application and hire process. Hopefully this will be a major learning curve for them. Not how they treated a close friend of mine like this.

Known to have a great breakfast buffet on weekends, I looked it up on line to see the hours it served breakfast, but NOTHING was listed for hours. I arrived there around 11 and looking at the menu board, it says: Breakfast buffet Fri, Sat, Sun at 7 am, but no ending time and it igive a price of $8.??, right next to it is a board that says Sunday, all day, $11.??. So, totally confusing since I went on a sunday. So, at 11, i had topay the all day price and no one said anything about when breakfast stops. The cashier is the same Red necked woman working there when I went last time. I asked her about the menu board, and her reply was just to repeat my total. I then went to the GM and asked about the menu board not stating when breakfast ends. He walked me to the menu board, saw I was right, and said, oh yeah, we need to add that. The entire experience sucked. I ended up not eating at all, and the waitress was gracious enough to get me a refund. This place SUCKS!!!!

We went to have dinner around 7 PM New Years eve, and this was the worst experience weve ever received at any restaurant, ever. There were various kinds of chicken, and we grabbed one from each tray. Every single one was cold in the middle. In fact, most of the food was cold. The strawberries looked to be on their last legs, with one in particular that had mold on it. Then my son went to grab a bowl for ice cream, and there was a thick layer of cheese on three of the four bowls we looked through. It wasnt washed at all. Our stomachs hurt the rest of the night as well... I will never spend $33 on a dinner with this business again. A waste of money...

My wife and I have eaten at their Christiansburg location several times--also at numerous other Golden Corrals. Our favorite GC is in Okeechobee, FL. The Christiansburg restaurant is living up to their advertizing as "the best buffet in the USA." Selection is huge and cooking is amazing! Hot food is hot and cold food cold. Desserts are out of this world. The restaurant, including bathrooms, is clean, and usually, the serving staff is friendly and helpful. The only downside is it is so easy to eat too much unless you have a lot of self-discipline (which I dont have for desserts).
