Very Disappointing. This is a typical Mexican restaurant, rustic decor, very long menu of different combinations of roughly the same food, etc. The waitress did not smile at us once the entire time. She was on her cell phone before helping us. They gave us very little salsa, much less than any other Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. I asked if a certain dish came with rice and beans (none on the menu specified either way except in the Combinations section). She said she didnt know and asked if we needed a couple more minutes. I asked if she could find out. Of course it didnt, so I asked how much extra are they. She didnt know, had to go find out. $2 each, no surprise. The food was bad. It is basically which slop do you want in a tortilla?. I couldnt tell the difference between the cheese enchilada and the potato burrito by looking at them (or even after a few bites). The potato burrito was mashed potatoes in a tortilla. The mushroom quesadilla had a ton of mushrooms but very little cheese. The manager took my plate, it had a pile of mushrooms and half the potato burrito. He didnt ask how anything was (food still on the plate should be a bad sign to anyone in the restaurant business). My wifes nachos were the typical, lots of stuff piled on chips, most of which were too soggy to eat. The at your table guacamole wasnt at your table, although he was within site. The onions and tomatoes are pre-chopped, I would expect everything to be very fresh and done right there. We tried to get dessert. Had to ask for a menu, it didnt have prices. I even checked the little display fridge of desserts, no prices. I didnt feel like bothering our waitress about prices again so we gave up and went to a local ice cream place afterwards instead. The cheesecake looked exactly like what I could get in a grocery store anyways (small slices, sauce already baked in to the top, etc.). Mexican food should have flavor. It is spicy, flavorful, a variety of textures, it is a culture in a every bite. Anyone serving this as Mexican food should be embarrassed and ashamed. It really was just another pick your slop in a tortilla Mexican restaurant. This is why I am afraid to try new places.

Was specifically looking for a restaurant with tableside guac making, so we chose this place. This was our first time here. The guac was good, and the food tasted fine. The problem was that we never saw our waitress, so we ran low on the basics, and the empty, used dishes began to pile. Then, when our order came out, it wasnt right (sour cream when we asked for none, rice instead of beans, etc). After I found someone else to help us, it was resolved. Just a less-than-great first-impression for us. Even finding our waitress to ask for the check (& then get her to come back and take the card) was frustrating. Maybe it was a new employee thing, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt. The messed up orders can happen to anyone, but at the very least, check on your guest once in a while.

3 Strikes and Youre Out I grew up in Tidewater where there are several Plaza Azteca locations. I was excited and proud when I saw they were opening a Charlottesville location. That luster is long gone. I have visited the Charlottesville location three times and each visit has been a bad experience. The service has been very poor on all three visits . Each time the wait has been nearly one hour from the time you are seated until your food is served. Each time my food has been cold and the wait staff seems to disappear leaving your water glass empty and or other needs unfulfilled. This location will not last with Guadalajara only 2 minutes away with hardly ever a wait and exceptional food and service at lower prices. I wont be back.

Anyone who says that Guadalajara has "exceptional" food as compared to Plaza Azteca has obviously never had real mexican food. Coming from someone who grew up in Chicago and has a hispanic father who is a chef, Plaza Azteca is actually really great. The service has been good each time Ive been, and the food has been even better. Guadalajara, on the other hand, serves their tacos in a hard shell with American cheese - in WHAT way is that "excellent Mexican food"? I rarely write reviews, but when I saw that someone had the nerve to even compare Guad to this place I was forced to do so.

Wife and I ordered the fajitas. I ordered the shrimp @ $17, which had only 8 shrimp (WTF?), and she ordered the chicken. We counted each of our plates and only had 4 slices of peppers a piece, and about 5 pounds of onions. My shrimp were burned beyond repair. When I tried to find a link on their website to complain I couldnt. I prefer passive aggressive methods and dont like direct confrontation, I dont want spit in my food if I send it back. Also, the chips seemed stale and were quite greasy, and it took an act of god for our server to provide more salsa.

This is by far the best restaurant I have been to. Unlike certain other ones like *Abuelos* where there was a piece of a plate in my burrito. But anyways this one has the best taste and the closest thing to real Mexican you will find this far North from Texas. The servings are almost enough to feed two and the taste you know was made from scratch unlike IHOP which tastes like it might have been frozen before. This restraint has customer experience as its first priority.

I walked in and ordered a Burrito Mex (chicken) that came with both cheese and salsa with a large bag of chips for under $13. In 10 minutes I had my order and was out. The food was great and the salsa was made in house. There was alot of food for everything I paid for. The restaurant inside was about 60% busy with families and kids of all ages that seemed to be right at home. The staff was friendly and prompt. Ill be returning.

We had excellent service. Our server was helpful and very attentive. Very very sweet. 2 seafood chimichanga dinners were excellent. (shrimp ) 1 #9 lunch special was not good at all. The sauce was very dark and tasted almost burned like it was cooked down old. Lots of staff sitting around with nothing to do. Looking at the other reviews I guess this is a hit or miss place. We were not impressed enough to come back.

Food was very good but beware of sitting under the air conditioning vents, which are all over the ceiling!!!! Water dripping down all over onto me, my boyfriend and our food!!!! Very unsanitary!!!!! I informed the waitress of the situation and they are making me a "small version" of my food to take home in a box. Considering im pregnant I am more upset about this situation because I CANNOT afford to get sick!

Absolutely horrible. Decent food after a long wait in an almost empty restaurant. At the end of eating we waited for our ticket. At least 15 minutes. Only to have the power flicker afterwards and shut down their computer systems. Paying with a card ended up causing a 40 minute wait due to the system delay and no compensation for a ridiculous waste of time. Will not be going back there again. How unfortunate.
