Stopped in for lunch on a cool January day, not expecting much, as one is very much out in the country when you go to Charles City. Rueben sandwiches have been one of my favorites for 45 years. Needless to say I have eaten many hundreds of them at restaurants across the country. The CCGs sandwich was one of the best Ive ever had. Although I wasnt really up for dessert, the 6-8 homemade delights looked just wonderful. I ordered the bread pudding and it was beyond description -- absolutely fantastic. Our wonderful and beautiful waitress was more than willing to add a little bourbon at my request. I almost fainted from my moans of delight. It absolutely could not have been better. Please stop by and keep the place viable as it has quickly become one of my favorites.

2017-06-04 Wow I never knew about this place all these years! I have been driving route 5 through Charles City County, and this place is truly a hidden treasure! Called them and asked them about dinner, they were nice and helpful on the phone call. Arrived at dinner on Saturday between 4 and 4:30pm, there was only a few people/cars in the gravel parking lot. We walked through the front door, saw bicycles parked around the building, and not many people inside. They have cushioned or padded booths and tables for 4 people and a bar inside. Our server/waitress was really nice, service was excellent. I fell in love with the homemade mashed potatoes, and the Catfish was good and plenty! My wife loved the fried chicken sandwich and we definitely want to return again.

Found this restaurant online when looking for a place to eat in Charles City after touring Shirley Plantation. Even though the last review was very negative, we decided to give it a try. All I can say is we were totally impressed with our meal. Three of us had the grilled chicken sandwich with pimento cheese. The other one had the lobster bisque soup. They also shared an order of fried oysters. Since someone had recommended the coconut cake, we saved room and shared 2 pieces. We all agreed it was the best coconut cake we had ever eaten. We would definitely recommend Culs Courthouse Grille. Our waitress was very nice and we enjoyed visiting with the owner. Service was great and so was the iced tea!

I would give 10 stars if that was available! I absolutely love to eat here... I happened upon it while out wth my daughter one day and have and do eat here quite often. I live in Charles City and my kids are grown and out on their own so Ive retired from cooking! The food is amazing, Ive tried everything on the menu at least once and have never had one single complaint about anything. My favorite is the homade chicken salad sandwich wth homade chips, I could eat it everyday and do at least 2-3 times a week! The owners and staff are very accommodating and kind...Wether your picking up or dining in you cannot go wrong stopping in here for a great homade meal!

Went there with the wife for the first time after riding the Capitol Bike Trail. I was not impressed. Some friends had recommended it. I ordered a chef salad ($9.99) expecting to get the standard chicken breast chunks, ham pieces and real bacon on the salad. This salad had lunchmeat with bacon bits and a small container of dressing (tablespoon?) I asked for more dressing and get another tablespoon full. Not nearly enough dressing for even a small salad. Another sad note was the water. It was a light brown color and had a funny taste so I did not drink it. Left the place hungry after paying $25 for the wife and I. Will not return.

Bartender was friendly, and the staff was kind enough to tell me us about the area! I left with a full belly AND knowing where to find the best picnic spot in Charles City! The bar is lovely, and the rustic floors are gorgeous. Its a charming little place. As for the food, my friends catfish sandwich was VERY nicely cooked, and my pulled pork was not bad either! The cole slaw was my favorite part, and Im not even a cole slaw person! I thought the price was very reasonable for a sit-down restaurant.

Maybe I shouldnt be so harsh on this cafe, seeing as its the only eatery on the trail from I-295 to Jamestown. But in all honesty, the food was very average and the owner really needs to rethink the home-made potato chip recipe (inedible). We stopped in for lunch - the staff was rather disorganized and the unisex bathroom needs attention. On the plus side, we did get our bellies filled and props to the baker for serving up some homemade bread in the sandwiches.

One of my families favorite places to eat. Everything is clean and the service is friendly and efficient. I have been in there when it is packed and still the service is awesome. The owner seems to have a knack for picking first rate help. I have had their Charles city chicken, chicken fried steak, cake, bread pudding, you name it and all of it is good. I highly recommend getting the bread pudding.

My mother, brother and I were biking the capital trail last week and stopped here for lunch both days (of our 2-day trip). The restaurant staff was very friendly and extremely attentive (we were super thirsty and each required about 5 refills) and the food was fast and most importantly DELICIOUS. Very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.

Had dinner for the first time - ribs, great - fries, hot and crispy, coleslaw - good. Bloody Mary was wonderful! Desserts are good, try the apple cobbler with ice cream - wonderful. Neat place to take folks or just run in for lunch. Ive heard the chicken salad is out of this world. Service was very good and the place was packed.

It was my first time going to this place. My dad, uncle and I road our bicycles to a few places in Charles City. We stopped here to eat and relax a little while before heading back. The service was amazing. The food was amazing. Everyone was so inviting and a joy to be around. I love this place and will be returning soon.

Everything is amazing. The food is delicious, the service is great, and if you are a cyclist the location is perfect. Riding the cap to cap trail, Culs sits 20 miles up the trail from Jamestown and 30 miles down the trail from Richmond. Cozy and warm atmosphere with a bar and Legends Brown Ale on tap! (My favorite beer.)

Cant say enough good things about this little off the beaten path cafe. The building and furnishings are a treasure. The food will make your taste buds sing with joy. The chicken salad and homemade chips are the best Ive ever eaten. The service is top notch and always pleasant. Overall a delightful place to visit.

Yum! The homemade chips were tasty and crunchy. Great chili too. Sandwich portions werent huge but reasonable. Tourists are welcome. If youre from out of town, dont let the outside scare you away. The service was great and the people were kind.
