This ramen house is located where Marias Bakery used to be. The location isnt as sketchy as some people claim it to be; this plaza used to be really busy because there was an Asian supermarket next to the current Tanpopo. And A&J is still here, so there is business and people around the plaza. Hopefully with Tanpopo and some other shops coming back, this place will be bustling again. I got the Tonkotsu ramen with chasu (pork) and it wasnt too bad. I wouldnt say its on the same level as Toki Underground or Daikaya, but the ramen has some flavor. Not mind-blowing, but its alright. Some say the noodles seem like theyre store bought - no, I wouldnt say that, although theyre not like traditional ramen noodles either. Theyre almost like egg noodles. Price is pretty reasonable too.

When I REALLY want to get my ramen on I make the drive into the city to the usual suspects (in fact a bar tender at one is who told me about Tanpopo). But Tanpopo really does hold its own with its curry ramen, and Im sure the others are tasty as well. Id say they might be a tad pricier than the DC places, which is odd, but the soup is good, and location is right for when I need a quick fix. Absolutely my go to joint. The staff is always fast and attentive. Be aware it really can be tricky to find, the signage is slim to none and it is tucked into the back of a very small "indoor shopping center" (about eight shops top if I had to guess) but it is worth it. If you want ramen and dont want to head into the city, dont even think twice, go to Tanpopo.

I have tried Toki Underground, Daikaya and Ryu in the area- Tanpopo has them beat. The broth is more flavorful, the meat is thicker with more content and additions to the soup; though not on par as the famous place in Manhatan that shows up on TV. Trust me I have tried the "best", this is the best in the area. Noodle is exported just as the other places, so dont expect a 20 year noodle master making them outback- just as in Japan. The downside is their hours and last call, which do no justice to their schedule, be there always an hour prior; however, this wasnt enough to take an star off.

Tanpopo is tucked into a building with several other businesses so its not something you can just find and randomly turn into without knowing what youre looking for. The restaurant itself had a nice atmosphere to it and was clean. The staff was attentive and quick and made sure our glasses were never empty. The food itself was okay - nothing to go crazy over but not bad if you just want a quick bite. If youre looking for great ramen, the broth here is okay but Id look else where. They definitely have variety but all of the food tastes just okay.

This place sits off the beaten path in an internal shopping plaza/strip mall that has seen better days. Reminds me a lot of the little basement restaurant s and kiosk s in Japan. The sushi is good, and I like the cha-shu buns, but for me its the tonkotsu ramen. This rich pork broth that is on the rare side for most menus, but here it is. That an an Asahi and I feel like Im back in Nara. And a heads up - there spicy tonkotsu is spicy, on the level of spicy kimchee spicy. Ono grinds.

Best ramen broth in the area. I miss their soft boiled eggs, but Ill still always order an extra egg with my ramen bowl. Their regular pork slices that you get in all ramen bowls arent as tender as they used to be, but their melt-in-your-mouth pork belly makes up for it. Treat yourself to a chashu bun though, you know you deserve it.

3.5 stars. Food was ok, I lived in japan for 4 years so this is a decent attempt but not quite right. The cali and tempura were pretty decent, the Tonkotsu ramen was a solid 3 stars... Service was great though and the atmosphere is nice. Probably will be back because location is great and it was pretty good for the price.

Located in the tiny strip mall that accompanies A&J. Limited ramen selection, so you would think they would perfect those dishes...nah. The beef curry was flavorful but Im pretty sure the meat they used were the throwaway beef from other restaurants. Price is around $10 for a ramen bowl.

This place has some of the best ramen in NoVA. You should definitely check it out. it may not be as good as some of the ramen in DC but its highly respectable. my personal favorites are the tonkotsu and shoyu broths.

I was here for the A&J but the wait at A&J was too long so I end up at Tanpopo. Nothing to crave about this restaurant, I tried their ramen and its normal. I wouldnt come back or recommend this restaurant to my friend.

Friendly staff and and a great bowl of ramen. They recently changed the music so its not blasting k-pop at full volume. The Lo-Fi hip-hop is much better and more relaxing. Ill be coming here much more often now.

Love this little spot hidden in the back of an old shopping center. The ramen is good and if you like spicy, they can do it. I am a big fan of the pork belly ramen. Reasonably priced also!

The Kukani Ramen is too salty. The noodle, the soup, and the kukani (pork belly) all have the flavor of salt/soy sauce. When they mix into a bowl of kukani ramen, too salty to enjoy it!

Very nice quiet atmosphere and comforting flavours. Parking can be tight for this tucked away location but well worth the maneuvering. Excellent service and I cant wait to come back.

Good tasty ramen. Hidden in a small shopping center you might find in a blade runner type setting. Typically ample seating.
