I love this tiny bar/restaurant that serves unctuous ramen and amazingly crispy Peking duck tacos! Momosan Ramen is Morimotos ramen bar, which is located in Murray Hill. MR offers a simply delicious Chinese-influenced Japanese menu for a great price. We ordered 3 of their Tonkotsu ramen, 3 of their Peking duck tacos, crispy mimiga and a carafe of their Rihaku nigori (unfiltered cloudy milky sweet sake). The Tonkotsu was this depth of fatty rich pork flavors and topped with a melt-in-your-mouth pork chashu. It was simply the best Chashu in all of nycs ramen-land. The noodles were thick and wavy, just the way I like it. And the noodles shape is great for picking up more of the broth. Definitely do not attempt to drink the broth. Too salty. The mimiga was a great crispy fried pigs ear with a mayo-sriracha sauce. This was good. MRs Peking duck tacos were amazing! The ducks hanging in the front are fake but the kitchen brings a freshly roasted duck. The chef slices each morsel of moist juicy duck with the crispy skin and places it in a crunchy taco. The taco is then topped with scallions and cucumbers and garnished with lime. The sourness of the lime brings out the richness of the Peking duck. And the genius part was that MR uses a crunchy shell (instead of the usual soft white bun), so when you bite in, the taco extends the crispness of the Peking duck! We loved it! My friend took a bite and said Oh!! This is good!

Dont go to Japanese restaurants very often but having moved into the area weve been sampling a lot of the restaurants located here and was very glad we tried Momosan. Being the first time that we visited the place we tried out 4 appetizers and each had a bowl of Ramen. All of it was very, very tasty. Its one of those cases where the menu isnt huge but what they do is absolutely excellent. It was very crowded when we went on a weekend evening, but luckily enough we got in early enough to not have to wait too long for a table. Note that the table seating is a bench style so you will most likely end up seated with random strangers. Interestingly, they also designed the benches to allow you to store coats/bags under the bench. The noise level was medium and the service was pleasant. They were pushing the sake quite a bit though. We did try to go back for lunch one day, I think a Sunday, and though the door was open there was no greeter. Ourselves and some other people waited a few minutes before realising they werent actually open! Little weird that they left the door open when they were closed. But well definitely be going back for more delightful food.

For those that love ramen but havent developed taste buds for good broth, this is a good place to start. Mind you its a bit pricey for ramen but you are in Midtown, its expected. The best part is the broth, thicker than most places and with a hint of fusion of flavors. Cilantro? I ordered the TanTan ramen and it was a good size plate, needs more ramen but it was to be expected. The pork slice was very smokey and delicious, soup was thick but i think a bit was salty. None the less i really enjoyed it. Also ordered crackling pig ears and they were ok. i had better at other places. The tuna tartare was very well prepared and flavorful I guess i was expecting wow since its morimotos restaurant but i just got its good not wow. If you go around 6pm there is no wait. after 6:30 line is out the door. you have been warned PS his beer is actually pretty good, the decor is just like any other ramen joint. Didnt have sake and our order was messed up. Two tables that sat after us got their ramen (same as ours) before us? what gives. They apologized and said they didnt place our order.. WTF i was so hungry by then, i could eat a horse.

Morimotos Ramen place delivers. Well I actually dont know if they actually deliver but my stomach thanks them for a really delicious lunch! Our wait for around 10 minutes arriving at 12noon. Sat at the bar (which is cool as you can see the rice bowl guy working). Ordered two tonkotsu ramen, one of which was a set and had the tuna rice bowl, and added a pork belly bao. The tuna rice bowl was delicious if you want to compare it to a lot of poke places that has recently opened up. Their tuna has bigger chunks and is seasoned and youre getting sushi rice instead of brown rice so yeah - tastier. The bao was tasty and marinated well, but I would have preferred a pickeled vegatable instead of ice berg lettuce. The ramen now, was ok. The wait for it was inexcusable long after seeing how some of the fat on top of it has congealed when it arrived. I also prefer the typical thick cuts of pork belly instead of the bacon cut that they had. Noodles are spot on, and the broth was VERY rich but not too salty. Prices are average compared to other ramen places so its competitive and fair.

We sat down for Ramen lunch with Bahn and Gyoza dumplings 3 each extra. They would not seat us in a seperate table, forcing us to seat in big share table even though there were ample of table aroun because we were 2 people. Food was ok Ramen, we payed extra 3 dollars for a banh (braised pork belly sanwich - which was predominantly plain fat covering small peice of meat), and the gyoza dumplings (2) which were not fresh (prob frozen). The Ramen was ok, the coconut my friend didnt even finish because she said was too sweet. We didnt take desert and the total came to above 60 dollars including tip. Would pay more than that but it just seems that its over charging for a below average Japanese lunch. Enough of much better Japanese restaurant around, and for this price level of payment I would not come back, unless they will completely change the level of cooking and experience.

Momosan ramen is one of the best ramen spots Ive encountered. I dined in for grand opening and also for day 2 to try their other selections, all the while, curing my hangover. From the two Ramens Ive tried, the tonkatsu and tantan, I could say they both offer quite the experience. The side dishes do just as much justice as the Ramens. The pork buns, gyoza, Peking duck, tuna tartare, pig ears were all amazing. Im curious to how the rest will taste but the executive chef, Jae Lee, does a superior job with all the dishes. I wouldnt be surprised if the other dishes will take my taste buds to heaven. The service was also very impeccable, despite how busy it was. They would stop by your table without any haste to move onto the next. I took careful notice to how they served the chasu bab. How they meticulously treat service says a lot.

Tonkotsu ramen ($11 for small/$14 for regular): An amplified version of tonkotsu pork broth ramen. The broth is so meaty, it comes close to feeling like you are eating pork when you drink it. Noodles generally excellent. The chashu is a little unconventional, and almost resembles a pulled pork; I liked how marbled the texture was. Overall, very good. Tokyo chicken ramen ($10 for small/$13 for regular): Also quite good. Used the same noodles as the tonkotsu. Thought they overdid the bamboo a bit, but maybe thats because I dont particularly care for it. Tsukemen ($15): A very rich dipping sauce in this take on the cold dipping noodle dish. Quite solid, though perhaps not as good as Ive had from places that specialize in it.
