SMOKES recon report Big Fattys BBQ Hartford, CT Righteous BBQ and beer is flowing. Love community seating and this has a cool casual food vibe. The music sucked, but it sounded like Earl from the muffler lives for his set. The beer selection was off the hook. Lots of Hill Farmstead and the easiest place to find Fiddlehead off I-91. This is a food pit stop after hitting The Alchemist and/or Hill Farmstead. Report Card 1-3, 3 is best Burnt Ends -2 Brisket -2 Baked Beans -1 Mac & Cheese -1 Cole Slaw -0 Burnt ends would have hit a 3 if it had not been hosed with sauce. Perfect bark. The Brisket was a bit overdone. Kidney beans mixed in? Uh, sacrilege. Was that cole slaw from a can? Nasty. Mac & Cheese was pedestrian. Singlecut 40 Things We Share cool hop blend. Hazy dipa, a tad sweet. Tough to compete in the market. SUDS-3

Not sure what the rave reviews are about, but all things aside, the food was mediocre at best. If anything, the beans were our only highlight. The full rack of ribs was clearly boiled before being "smoked" till the nearly un-chewable texture they were. Portions of the meat fell off the bone- a dead give away they were first boiled. Other parts were hard as a rock. The half chicken was super dried out and tasted like it was seasoned with an Italian spice mix. Totally didnt go with the BBQ flavor of everything else. The slaw was nothing special and swimming in liquid. The place was at capacity and short handed. Salad bar was empty. Iced tea was empty. Ice was empty. It took well over an hour for our food to come out. That said... It could have been worse. All of this on a Sunday night. At least we were full.

Counter service with family style table setting. There is a good selection of local beers on tap. The food though, was underwhelming, the flavor just isnt there. You can see their smoker through a window, but I dont know what they were using it for. We got keilbasa, fried pickles, and a piggy sampler with pulled pork and burnt ends. The keilbasa and fried pickles were bland. It seemed to me that they had been breaded long before they were fried, they just didnt taste like pickles anymore. Even the coleslaw lacked flavor. I dont have much to say about the pulled pork or the Mac and cheese. The burnt ends though. Aside from the outer layer of burnt meat, it tasted and like it was roasted in a Crock-Pot. The prices would have been fair for better food. I wont be going back.

First experience eating at Big Fattys, had tried another time previously but they were closed. I was confused as to how to go about ordering when I first when inside. I also was not fully understanding what some of the items were on the menu. I had ordered pulled pork. I had assumed that it was sandwich, however it was not. It was a pile of pulled pork. It did not come already dressed; instead there was BBQ house sauce at the table to use. The sauce was not bad, it was different, not really my taste. The seating was a bit limited and you were really close to the next table. The salad bar was limited, but it was later in the day so maybe earlier there were better selections. Staff were friendly. All in all it was not bad, but not great.

Finally got around to stopping in to Big Fattys lat Saturday. It was a bit early for diner so the place was not crowded. The wife had a pulled chicken sandwich and I had the pulled pork. Must have been a whole pound of pork in that thing. It was awesome! We both loved the food. It was warm outside so we sat out on the deck to enjoy our meal. The best part was when Brandon pulled up and started singing as he took supplies out of his truck. I heard the BBQ was great but nobody said anything about him having the voice of an angel! If you are looking for a great meal ,that will not break the bank , you have got to give Big Fattys a try! Maybe you will get lucky and Brandon will sing to you.

I just grabbed a pulled pork sandwich (the 16oz) from Big Fattys and I was really impressed by the quality and the portions. The sauce is homemade, and the pork tender. The slaw (veggies still crisp with the right amount of mayo) and collard greens both were made from scratch. I also received my order less in less than two minutes. Super fast. The cornbread has bacon in it! Yes, bacon, and its freakin delicious. I just moved up here for school and Im glad to know theres a quality local place to go for BBQ. Its well worth the drive from anywhere in Hanover/Lebanon.

Very decent BBQ with good sized portions and reasonably priced. We had brisket, ribs, pulled pork and burnt ends - all tasty and filling. The collards were fabulous and the slaw (an important element when I judge a BBQ joint) was crunchy and refreshing - the way I like it. The beer offerings were enough without being too much and the local River Roost was worthy and recommended. The community table element was welcome since we were visiting from out of state. We met some excellent residents of the area and had good conversations.

I tried this place for my first and my last time. I called to order take out when I got an answering machine telling me to call back if I was calling during business hours and I have reached the answering machine. So, we drive over and placed the order. It took 45 minutes to get our food. Mind you we ordered at 7:45 so it wasnt even prime dinner time. After I complained, I was told the food was being packaged. Ten minutes later I was thanked for waiting but no apologies or explanations.

Holy ****. This place has good BBQ. I mean seriously good. I once spent 4 his waiting for BBQ at Franklins in Austin and while that was probably the best BBQ Ive ever had, this place was nearly as good. Specifically the pulled pork was fantastic. Moist, juicy and smoky, really impressive stuff. The burnt ends are also fantastic. The only thing that wasnt extraordinary was the wind which were only good. Seriously so in and check out this gem.

This place is AWESOME!...we looked it up on google on our way up to quebec city...IT WAS A STOP ON OUR RETURN TRIP AS WELL! they really do it right...and I am very picky, but when a restrantuer does as many things right as this guy, I must give credit where credit is due...they were very helpful in terms of menu selection, the menu is diverse, the service is friendly and professional, and the food is fantastic! WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I like this place. The taplist is getting stronger by the week here and is worth a stop alone. The new crowler shop is also an excellent reason to visit. I think the food could use some work; I have found the mac and cheese very bland (along with most of the sides)/melee and the pulled chicken/pork for the sliders to be very dry and bland as well. The burnt ends are solid and I always order the chicken wings which are well executed.

Excellent food, spectacular beer selection. I HIGHLY recommend their wings. They have a bunch of great sauce or rub options that are fears to beat. On that note, Mondays are wing night. The salad bar is also terrific, and a great option for dinner. Only downside is that it can be louder than I personally care for when they have live music or are packed and busy, but that just depends on your noise tolerance.
