Disclaimer, grew up in Northern California with fresh produce, many authentic restaurants and eating Mexican food as a staple. I struggle to find the type of quality Mexican restaurants in Utah that would compete with what became commonplace in California or other states around the Union . Candidly not likely to go back, dont let my review stop you from trying, its still fitting the okay category. Food was okay, service style is fast casual almost like some of the chain Fresh Mex places around. Wasnt impressed with the service, televisions everywhere and seem to be set for the workers and not for the patrons. Price point was average too high for the overall experience, quantity of food normally I would say would be more for a place like this, was a little disappointed when beans and rice or being skimpy you know somethings wrong. When I saw how much food I got for the price, and consider the experience I felt like it was overpriced and under delivered. I personally like other places more, but can see how people in Utah County likes this

This place is hands down the best Mexican I have had in Utah and rivals some of the best I have had in Cali. The Al Pastor tacos are to die for! The array of flavors that just explode in your mouth is wild. After finding this little gem last week my wife and I have been there so many times Id be embarrassed to admit it. The Guacamole, Jalapeño salsa is the bomb, ( it packs heat and flavor) we even bought some to bring home. The carne asada is also killer, reminds my wife and I of some of the great carne asada we had in Little Havannah. Everything we have had there is great, the prices are well worth the food. Last night we were there and my wife mentioned how funny it was that just down the road Cafe Rio was probably jam packed, while this little Gem lay hidden to most of the community. That being said this is authentic Mex, none of that Tex Mex business.

I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley so Mexican food in Utah and I havent had a very good relationship. We came here because of the good reviews and have stayed because of the good food. Their salsa bar doesnt have the right heat for what I like so heres my recipe of how I make my own using their offerings. I almost fill my tub with their mild fresh tomato salsa. Then I add about a quarter teaspoon of their light green puréed sauce and then I squeeze a quarter lime and mix it all together. Perfection! My husband always gets the tacos al pastor, I will get their enchiladas or chicken pieces and make my own tacos with the tortillas they give me. Sometimes they give each customer their own bag of chips sometimes its per order. So we always order separately so we can each get our own bag of chips.

Prices are more expensive then what the menu says online? is that even legal, I ordered the molcajete, it was very good i will give them that, but they didnt give us enough tortillas, and it costed extra for more, also the salsa serving cups are tiny, you cant even dip a chip in them , its rediculous, i asked for a bigger plastic serving cup which i saw and it would have been perfect but that was an extra two dollars as well, i used to love this place, i brought many of my friends for the tacos al pastor and the molcajete and to be honest i dont plan on going back, just go to maria bonitas, bigger menu, better and more authentic food and way way better service.

This place rocks! They serve authentic Mexican food - real tacos the way you would get them in Mexico. I lived in Mexico for a couple of years and ever since returning to Utah Ive been on the lookout for good Mexican restaurants. Well, El Mexiquense definitely fits the bill! I got two tacos and a gringa and loved it all. The service is fast and very friendly. The portions are great. The prices are excellent. I even love the atmosphere as it is very similar to what you would find in Mexico. I will be coming here quite often!

Great food. Great atmosphere. Ive tried a lot of Mexican places that try to capture the "authentic" feel of Mexican cuisine, and this one is one of the best. The Al Pastor is fantastic and their choices of traditional Mexican antojos along with some less traditional options really provide a great eating experience for anybody. Couple all this with a clean and comfortable dining area with a great salsa selection and plenty of standard Mexican garnishes and you have yourself a great meal. Highly recommend.

Went to this place looking for authentic Mexican food. Specifically carne asada and chorizo. This little hole in the wall has have a burrito that had both in it. Yum! At the same level of goodness youll find the best authentic tacos you can get in a variety of meats including pastor, cabeza, tripa, chicken, carne asada, lengua, and shredded beef. Prices are very reasonable between $5-8 as the portions are big I ordered a burrito and 1 taco ate 1/2 the burrito and taco and was plenty full.

The employees were very friendly, however, the food was spicy, but otherwise flavorless. The beans and sauce were dried around the edges leaving the impression they were heated up while on the plate and likely in a microwave. Unacceptable. Im sorry if this sounds harsh, and I am not intending to be rude, but I have had better of the same meal in fast food chain restaurants. Fortunately for the staff I paid a tip before receiving the food, because it would have been minimal at best.

Had the carne asada plate. Amazing. So flavorful. The portions were huge, and for the price, you cant beat it. The salsa bar is fantastic. The chips are perfect. Their red salsa is my favorite of 40ish Mexican restaurants I have been to around SlC/Utah County. I loved their piping hot refried beans. Ramses and the cashier were very considerate and attentive, and the cooks whipped up our meal so fast. Everything was hot and fresh tasting. I will be back. A LOT.

This place is awesome! Born, raised and still live in AZ where we have legit Mexican taqueria shops all over the place. Took a job in Lehi, Utah back in 2011 for a year and this was the only place I found that we liked and compared to home. Each time I visit family in the salt lake area I come here (like today). Ive probably been to this place over 30 times in the past 6 years and it never disappoints. My favorite item is their pastor.

Lets just say I do not need to search any longer for authentic Mexican Food! This place nailed it in plenty of ways. The free chips and salsa were amazing! Spicy salsa and amazing guac. The food was some of the best Mexican food I have had. Being an Arizona native I know Mexican Food and this place is one of my favorite restaurants of all time! I will be taking my family back and telling everyone I know about this amazing place.

When I walked in and saw the trompo (vertical spit for the al pastor), I knew I was going to enjoy the experience. The al pastor here is fantastic--best Ive had since living in Mexico years ago, in fact. The lengua is delicious as well. Theres a great little salsa bar. It isnt the most varied selection, but whats there is solid. And the horchata definitely hits the spot. Service is friendly. I love this place!
