I tried Thai Cafe for the first time today. I almost didnt find the place. Thai Cafe is located next to a tire shop in a former fast food restaurant. Normally, I try to steer away from buffets. Most of them have sub par food and who knows how long the food has been sitting. Thai Cafe is fairly small with only about 45 seats in the restaurant. They had a steady flow of customers and what looked like many frequent customers. The food is in buffet trays you would normally see at a banquet, as opposed to the steam tables you see at other buffets. Now the food. I had the buffet so I could try a sample of what Thai Cafe had to offer. The spring rolls and cream cheese rolls were great. The pad Thai was great and as good as my favorite Thai restaurant. The fried rice was standard. The red curry chicken dish was okay. It lacked the flavor of my favorite Thai restaurant, but at a fraction of the price it is good. I also tried the Chinese eggplant dish, which was excellent. There was some sort of beef dish that was good but I have not had anywhere else, so I cant compare it. They also have a freezer full of Blue Bell ice cream. So all in all it was a great experience and lunch. For around $10 with the drink I will definitely go back when I am craving some Thai food.

What To Order: Lunch Buffet, Beef Salad My favorite Thai restaurant. Ive been a patron of Thai Cafe for over 10 years. Ive gotten to know the owner, who has trained many of the Thai chefs in the San Antonio area. Ive had the privilege of observing the cooking techniques and can say for a fact, vegetables are peeled, chopped and prepped fresh, spices are picked from the stem by the staff. They offer a lunch buffet which is a must if youve never been there before. The selection is absolutely amazing, you wont find another Thai buffet like this anywhere. (Fried cheese rolls, Fried Pork & Thai BBQ sauce, Beef Salad (Yum Nua), Pad Woon Sen, Coconut Tapioca, Pumpkin Soup) are just a few of the items on the lunch buffet which includes over 30 items. Favorites at Thai Cafe are the Beef Salad, and the Fried Pork with Thai BBQ Sauce. The Beef salad is served hot unlike many places that serve a cold salad with med rare beef. Its a change, that I come here for. I would recommend this place to everyone and do.. The staff is always friendly and many are part of the Chefs family. They take pride in the freshness of the food and service they provide.

Good selection on the lunch buffet. Some of the best Thai food around. Better than Thai Chili by 5 miles. Great coconut rice, egg rolls, chicken/lemon grass/mushroom soup, pad thai, and the sauteed eggplant and mushrooms are to die for. The coconut tapioca pearl soup is great with the coconut sticky rice. Their food is always hot and fresh, and the menu items do change. Buffet is Monday thru Saturday. The wait staff is extremely prompt, efficient, and friendly. They are ALWAYS busy and crowded, but it is well worth the wait. The prices are good too.

I have been coming to this restaurant for years. There is no other Thai restaurant in this city, which even comes close to the authenticity of the food they serve. The Yam Nua is ridiculous!!! On Friday afternoons during buffet, you will be lucky to find a parking space, or a seat. The staff are very attentive, and the cooks dont mess around when it comes to heat. You want the real deal, eat here...you want "white people Thai"...go elsewhere. I guarantee youll crave this place on a regular basis once you give it a try.

Great buffet but last visit was less than before. Dont know if chef was off his game but foods were saltier & choices were a little soggy compared to normal. Menu items have always been great & this is the only buffet my wife will even consider going to. Good selection of items & they dont skimp on beef or chicken dishes. Have enough vegetarian choices to please veggies too. Dont die by the window if you are warm=less AC over there. Many local Asians eat there too. Recommended as long as good quality stays above par.

I have tried different Thai Restaurant and there is not one that cooks like Thai Cafe. I am pretty familiar with Thai homemade food and Thai Cafe just taste like real homemade food. My friends that are from Thailand say the same thing is just like being in Thailand. The service is great, is neat and clean. I love everything about this place. Thai Cafe is my #1 place for Thai Cuisine.

Been there a total of 5 times, typically for the thai tea as their food is not the greatest being a buffet as well. Service is fair and not very fast and the last couple of trips to this restaurant were horrible, I could easily have made better pad thai and Mongolian chicken at home. Rice was lousy and not fresh after they took 20 minutes to get the food out.

This place used to be good but every time I go there the food is cold and the buffet isnt ready. Why post opening hour as 11:00 when the buffet isnt ready until 11:45 - 12:00. The food could be really good but who likes cold food and a limited selection? Maybe the best option is to not open until 12:00 so that everything is ready and hot?

nua pad prig and pad thai are the best in SA. Thai tea is great too. Sometimes it sucks that they chop up the pad thai (its not just the other guys @ the buffet). Lunch buffet is better than the dinner and reasonably priced. $20 will feed 2, $30 will feed 3 no problem. Way better than other fast food.

This place used to be good however the past few times Ive been it has been horrible. The food is not near as good as it was & they do not keep the buffet supplied with food well at all giving you about 3 or 4 items to choose from ar best . Usually the stuff that nobody wants to eat

Food was good and so was the variety. I also liked that unlike most Asian buffets, hardly any of the dishes were covered in globs of unhealthy sauce. They also had fresh fruit and veggies which pleased my healthy side. Its a great stop for lunch for only $8 for the buffet.

Thai Café is my "go to" place for authentic thai cuisine. Friendly family owned restaurant with the taste of Thailand that everyone can enjoy. The buffet is a bonus if you want to try many of Thai Cafes superior dishes. A+ for Thai food.

Tried the weekend lunch buffet - a good number of items, less than a big Chinese buffet but every item was very good. Not ideal for a romantic dinner but if ure hungry and love thai food - this is it, just go for it! Two thumbs up!
