If you want authentic Japanese cuisine, this is not the place to go. Run away very fast. This place was just not good and to top it all off, my husband got food poisoning from the "Chicken Katsu" or the sketchy sushi, which by the way many of the rolls had basically the same ingredients. The decor wasnt bad but the service left a lot to be desired. It was slow and the waiter forgot part of our order. I have previously lived in Japan for 3 years. I know what a bowl of ramen should look like and how it should taste. I know just how different Top Ramen is from a bowl of real ramen. The boiled egg, which was overcooked was at the bottom of the bowl, along with the nori, mushrooms, and pork. The noodles looked like they came straight out of the Top Ramen package. The Shoyu ramen (shoyu litterally means SOY) did not at all taste like soy, nor was it is any way salty. The noodle broth ratio was WOEFULLY out of whack. There was WAY more broth than noodles. It had some weird nutmeg taste to it too The Chicken Katsu was ordered for my son, who would not touch it and I didnt blame him. There was NO panko on the chicken. It was swimming in some sketchy nutmeg gravy. Which weirdly enough tasted like the ramen base. I was so excited to try this restaurant and I was so angry when we left. This was not good food and I cant believe how many good reviews this place had. What in the world happened that so many people gave this place good reviews and my experience was so terrible?

GREAT VALUE FOR SUSHI! Four years into this adventure so I thought I would write an update. I am still not a sushi fan, so if you are expecting a sushi review, please move along. :) Service - usually spot on! But occasionally can get a slow day. As much as I frequent this place, I would say the service is 95% spot on and quick though. They do a booming business but we have never had a wait for a table during the workday lunch hour - and there are usually at least 6 of us. Fresh, hot, quality food - 100% of the time - NEVER had a problem with their food. This place is known for their high quality yet inexpensive sushi, but Im just not that kinda guy and I aint ashamed to admit it. I do come here on a frequent basis with my co workers (sushi fans) but I usually try some sort of noodle dish. There is PLENTY to choose from, so please dont let the sushi moniker scare you away if thats not what you are into. I have tried the following throughout the years and have been satisfied with each of them. The Pho-Tai is my favorite. Pho-Tai Noodles Singapore Rasa Noodles Mongolian Black Noodles Yaki-Soba Karai Noodles For the non sushi lovers, they have plenty of other Korean inspired dishes. Rice noodle, egg noodle, chicken, beef, ramen, soups, and everything. Dont let the sushi monicker throw you off if you are not a sushi fan.

I ordered the Crazy Monster Roll, and it was so disappointing. First of all, I asked if I could add extra ingredients in my roll. My server said yes for an extra charge, so I continued to order the "monster roll" with shrimp tempura added to it. He then came back and said they couldnt make it because the roll itself is huge already. I asked if he was sure they couldnt add it, because I go to other restaurants like Kai and theyve never had a problem with putting extras inside. He said they wouldnt add it and charged me a shrimp tempura app on the side. Well, the roll was small lol. Super disappointed. I wish they would have just been honest and said that the cook didnt know how to prepare it properly. You want an actual monster roll? Order the Your Way Roll from Kai off Vance Jackson and 410. You can customize it to your liking. This is my usual order from there - inside: shrimp tempura, salmon, tuna, fried crawfish, crab, cream cheese, and avocado. On top of roll: Salmon, tuna, spicy crab salad, beef, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchies. The roll is huge! The best thing is that they actually know how to put the ingredients inside of your sushi roll.

I took my host parents here since my students highly recommended this place. But turn out we were extremely disappointed, and the owner were rude. If you are vegetarian, stay out of this place. They only have Veggie Rolls as vegetarian option, so we tried to order other types of rolls as well and asked to take out the fish/meat and leave it on the side of the plate. The owner refuse to do so, she simply said we cant do that, it would be without the fish/meat or take out the fish/meat on your own when the rolls arrive. We asked it again in different ways and get the same answer. Which is unacceptable that I worked at Kimura in downtown before and I wouldnt tell my customers to take the fish/meat out on your own. She simply dont understand what vegetarian is and dont care vegetarian customers. I dont like to write negative reviews, yet I need to warn other vegetarian, THIS PLACE IS VEGETARIAN UNFRIENDLY.

Had their shoyu ramen and the best I can say is that it was OK. There was hardly any flavor to be found in the broth and their choice of ingredients in the ramen wasnt exactly what I expected. There was been sprouts, corn floating around the bottom, as well as what I can only hope was ground chicken. The egg was hard boiled rather than soft boiled. The noodles, the hard of a good ramen dish, were somewhat gritty, and didnt absorb any flavor of the broth, not there was much to absorb. My friend who went with me got a bento and his food wasnt anything special. The chicken looked like pretty standard grilled chicken, just drenched in sauce. The pork cutlets were OK, although the sauce was sweeter than expected. I dont know what their sushi is like as neither of us tried it, but it looked good from a distance. In short, mediocre food. Dont go here for ramen, go down the road to Nama.

Ive been to Sapporo!s very many times and for the most part I love it! The staff is nice and the owner is great. Id honestly give it 5 stars, if it wasnt for one problem. When the owner isnt around its seems like the rest of the staff drops the ball. The first time it happened, I thought "its probably just an off day for them, it happens." I used to be a server, I was a manager, it really does happen. Then, I started noticing the only constant when these "off days" happen is that my favorite person(the owner) isnt running around(when busy) or greeting people(when slow). This really bothers me, because this place is awesome! You can really tell the owner puts a lot of herself into this place, and to see her staff completely drop the ball when she isnt around sucks. Her management/supervisor team really needs to step it up and uphold the same standards as she does.

Fish Quality: 2 Roll Quality: 2 Overall Value: 4 There is nowhere else in San Antonio, where you can get this quantity of sushi for your buck. However, the fish quality is sub par with the salmon leaving a taste of fish in your mouth. The rolls are monstrous. One roll, along with the free miso and salad, is enough food for someone who would order 3 rolls somewhere else. A roll consists of 10 pieces, at least 2" in diameter, with random cuts ranging from about 1/3" to a full inch. These rolls could barely fit in my mouth and when I chewed, I tasted the fish, gobs of cream cheese, and rice completely separately. The roll sizes definitely hinder the overall sushi experience, but are lighter on your wallet. This is a decent spot if you live/work in the area, are not a sushi snob, and looking for a cheap lunch. I would not go out of my way to eat here again.
