You get the feeling that this is a chain restaurant the minute you walk into the cavernous restaurant abuzz with television sets, central bar, and several rooms for dining. The same feeling arises upon review of the menu (and the prices). All of your average Tex-Mex dishes are a least a couple of dollars more than you will find the same dish at one of hundreds of local Mexican food restaurants. Chips and salsa were served, but found to be of HEB quality (i.e, store bought packaged chips and bottled salsa). An order of nachos that happened to be 1/2 price on the bar menu were pretty average; two corn tortillas slathered with rather tasteless beans and topped with cheddar cheese and an usual tasting picadillo then cut into quarters. The combination plate of two cheese enchiladas, rice beans and a crispy taco (wanted a puffy taco but that was a $2 substitution charge) was all together sub par. I love cheese, but the enchiladas were swimming in it. Definitely overkill. The taco had the same unusual tasting picadillo as did the nachos, the same lack luster frijoles, and decent garlicky rice. I was underwhelmed to say the least for a plate that had an almost $11 price tag. I dont like to base a review that heavily on price, but when they are such a huge variety of choices for Tex-Mex food in San Antonio, that have wonderful tasting food, price becomes a critical qualifier in selecting one (unless you just like paying for the ambiance like Casa Rio on the river). For someone that has sampled over 50 local taquerias, Tex-Mex chains and mom & pop restaurants, the low quality over price ratio here is definitely sufficient to discourage any return dining.

Great food, so-so ambience. Perhaps its because I had other expectations, but when I walked in, I was thrown off by the neutral decor & 70s/80s music, plus the tv was on a tennis channel & news without closed captioning. Wheres the Mexican color & decor? Why werent the tvs on the soccer channel? And more importantly, why is it that a place called Grand Tequila does not have a tequila menu? My hubby had the fish tacos for lunch. The homemade corn tortillas were great but the over all taco flavor was boring. The asafran flavored rice was excellent & fluffy, not sticky or lumpy like in so many restaurants. I had the chile relleno (the way I judge Mex restaurants, that & menudo). It was made w/a poblano cooked & peeled right. The egg batter was subtle but excellent, however the flavor was overpowered by too much cheese. It wasnt as good as my mom used to make, but it was still pretty good. Thank goodness it wasnt covered in "ranchero" sauce like in so many places. My rice was tomato based, well flavored & fluffy also. I was impressed that each plate had the correct rice type; azafran for a fish plate, tomato for a beef plate. The margaritas were very good but seem a little over priced & the restaurant does not offer a happy hour. Again, it would benefit from a separate tequila menu. I wanted to give it 4 stars, but I had higher expectations for this place. The food was good enough for 3 stars. Otherwise I find nothing outstanding about it to set it apart from other restaurants in town.

I went to Grand Tequila located off 151 on a Friday and it actually for my birthday. Of course there was a wait, as you would expect on a Friday evening. There was a lady in front who signed in for a party of 15, which they told her that it would be a 1. 5 to 2 hour wait. We then stepped up and was given the same amount of wait time for a party of 5, which I was a little confused because of the wait time would be the same for a party of 15 and a party of 5. Anyway we sat at the bar waiting. We sat there for an 1.5 hours waiting to be called, which we were never called and we had to remind them that we still had not been seated. We did notice that two ladies were sat at a table for 4 because they knew one of the male waiters, which is very frustrating. I will never go to this restaurant again. The service is horrible. Our waiter had a big hickey on his neck, which is disgusting and was actually trying to rush us out of our table once we were done. I will not recommend this restaurant. I give this restaurant NEGATIVE STARSSSSS if I could but I have to choose at least one in order for my review to be posted. I do have to mention that 1.5 hours we sat at the bar, the BARTENDERS ARE AMAZING AND WORK VERY HARD.

Chips were grease and chewy. My wifes mangonada margarita looked good but tasted like sugar water and cheap tequila. We shared a sampler: one of the tortillas of our quesadilla was wet and soggy. I also order half order of ceviche..they put Tajin on a piece of avocado???? I was like ?????; also fish seem to be frozen and rubbery I asked for chips for ceviche they gave me two round tostadas ( seem to be from package). I noticed two other diners in two diffent tables return there coctel de camaron; and still not eat it on second time it came out. 80s 90s English music was kinda weird. TVs were so high up on wall air ducts cover view LOL... Crummy decor. Bright lights. Ambient didnt seem Mexican. Personally wouldnt got there again. Looks nice from outside; but food and interior are for from that.

During my visit on May 7, 2015, I saw a shirt the busboy was wearing and it read, "Dont drink and drive. You might hit a bump and spill your drink." OK... bad enough, right? It gets worse. The restaurants logo was on the front of his shirt! It is hard to believe that a restaurant would actually support driving under the influence. I find it HIGHLY offensive and completely unacceptable. How on earth could this establishment be so incredibly stupid? This city has a bad enough problem with idiots killing innocent people through their actions by driving under the influence. WHY ENCOURAGE IT? IT IS NOT FUNNY! I will NEVER return to this restaurant, chain or otherwise. I STRONGLY encourage others to boycott this restaurant or chain as well.

Visited this restaurant for the first time tonight and I hate to say, I will never be returning. Which is sad. The margarita I had was great. I ordered the gordita plate and shoved down towards the back of gordita was a small, wiry piece of hair. Now, I mentioned this to my server, who was kind. The manager, not so much. He argued with me, claiming it could not possibly be hair...because he could cut it. This doesnt make any sense. He shows me two pieces of black "not hair", one was the piece removed from my plate, the other was something different entirely. When I asked for an explanation as to what this was since it wasnt hair, he argued more, said he had no idea and left. This is not how you should treat paying customers.

The service was OK however, this is not a authentic Mexican Cuisine restaurant! Had the buffet today and beef they had for the crispy tacos had no seasoning what so ever!! The rice did not have any seasoning either. Extremely disappointed and will not return. Not even the water melon they had was sweet. Taco Bell would have been more authentic! And all Mexicans know Taco Bell is not a authentic Mexican food. I saw the bartender to attempting to make a bloodymary and he only filled the glass half full. We didnt order anything from the bar. If you like unseasoned plain food thats the place for you to go. Extremely disappointed customer. This was their 2nd chance.
