This was my first visit. We went to lunch for the grand opening of their patio. They advertised $4 burgers and $3 patio pounders. So I went with my husband and two teenagers to get a cheap burger and hang out on the patio. We went in and the hostess seated us under 10 minutes. She seated us inside because the patio is more the size of a porch with very limited seating. Thats fine, the special started at noon and we got there at 12:30. So seated in under 10 minutes which was great! It went slightly down hill from there. Our waitress was nice enough but not very informative. She explained that they do not have fountain drinks, only bottled drinks. No bueno. So we just went with water. We asked for the burger special but if we wanted one we either needed to sit on the patio or go back to the patio and order. Not sure why this wasnt made more clear as we wanted to eat and hang out. So we decided to share a plate between the 4 of us. My kids shared the BLT and the bread was toasted so hard that it cut the roof of their mouths. My husband and I shared the cheese steak sandwich which was good but the bread to meat/veggie ratio was terrible. The bread had a great flavor and so did the meat. However, if you want cheese then its extra. Say what? Again, the flavor was great but there was not enough meat compared to the bread and maybe 5 strips of bell pepper. Sides were chips (only plain wavy offered), fruit or salad. No fries? It took longer to get our food than to be seated. Almost 20 minutes wait. We got our waters and that was it until our food arrived. Our waitress did not come back by until after someone else brought us our food. It would have been nice to have her stop by at least once to say our food would be out soon or to refill our water. While we were eating we did need refills. Our waitress stopped by and said that she would get us a refill. Ten minutes passed and still no refill. She had stopped by several other tables and then went back to the staff area and was just chatting. The water pitcher was right in front of her. This was another problem. The staff spent more time in the staff area than on the floor. They were friendly enough but didnt really work. Still needing water and flagging not working, we caught the hostess as she walked by and asked for water. She brought it right over. We paid and left and decided not to come back for the concert this afternoon. Its too bad because I love hip, little spots with character. Customer service definitely needs to be taught and specials need to be more clear. The people behind the counter should come out and say hi, be friendly. Also, another little annoyance, there was music in the background but the only speaker was in the staff area.

I am being honest, because I so desperately want this place to be great! Rockwall needs a good brewhouse/coffeeshop. I was so excited about this place opening! The lifehouse had such a welcoming atmosphere to coffee goers and I was hoping bookclub would be the same. I walked in and saw Josh Gaurrel lyrics on the wall and I was even more PUMPED!! Even the website claims to be "a creative atmosphere". The place is nice of course, but the tone and staff dont know if they are a coffee shop or restaurant. I feel like there should be a "restaurant" area and a separate area for just general coffee goers who arent getting food. Twice Ive come since the opening, and both experiences have kept me from coming again or suggesting it to friends. (Im a networker with weekly meetings) Reasons I felt awkward: -the staff continuously ask "are you getting any food?" I feel bad, because they are probably working off tips and I only want to get coffee! They are so nice, but I worked in the food industry so I understand... - I feel like Im taking up a table (again the staff are not making tip money) -Im not the only one that feels this way (three other friends reported the same thing!) -I didnt feel comfortable staying longer than 30min... I am a coffee shop REGULAR, spending a ton on coffee for a place to sit and study. I wanted a friendly atmosphere to read and meet with friends, but the Book Club does not feel like this place. I felt like I need to buy food to earn the right to stay... As much as I hate starbucks, at least I never feel awkard chit chatting or reading as long as I wanted. I hope someone high up gets to read this, because I am so hopeful for this place to make it! Also, the hours!? I feel like whenever I actually think about coming, they are closed. If you want to be a coffee/beer type place, may want to re-think the hours. Its another reason my money goes to starbucks instead of local places

Wow...... Just wow! This entry will not only be about BCC........BUT, the shear ignorance of people whos reviews Ive read(ALL of them). First, if you want REAL food, this is the place. Also, if you dont know the difference between "counter service" and "full service," then please go educate yourself and you might feel better when you encounter a "counter service" situation again........ In addition, my wife and I are in the process of opening a Cafe here in Rockwall and we are in FULL support of "Ma & Pa" shops that keep our economy thriving. Thats what it is all about! I also had an opportunity to converse with one of the owners.... They actually care about the ingredients that they are serving US.... From Vital Farm Eggs, to baking all breads in house and offering gluten free items by request. Think about it, other places that you eat(the complainers on this review) are all items from "processed and mass produced" purveyors.... This is the difference between "eating" and "dining" people. I would encourage you to start supporting those whos passion is to offer a better choice to put in your body!!!! Remember, spend slightly more on fresh food now, omit frequent trips to the Dr later in life........ IT JUST MAKES SENSE!!!! Again, If you dont care about the food production/preparation..... then keep going to Dennys/IHOP/..... Etc...... Wow..... That felt really good!!!!!! Johnny R.

I wanted so badly to love this place, like it even. The first time I visited, at least the server was nice, but the food was just bleh. But I went back. Thats when I had such a terrible experience. At our table, we had one plate of fries that were burned crispy, and at the other end of the table, the fries were still raw. My food simply had no flavor (after they ran out of the food that I first ordered). The waitress rolled her eyes at us every time we asked for anything. She only refilled my water once after I asked over and over and the unlimited coffee ordered by someone apparently was a nuisance to her that she stopped coming by the table until we waved her down. She brought my bill without asking if I was done (and I was just about to order another coffee but then didnt). She charged my card for the wrong bill and never apologized. The owner came out and was rude as well. The place is open until 10 and yet they closed tables down at 9:15 even though people were still coming in and the waitress was clearly irritated that we stayed until closing. Ive worked in the restaurant industry for years, and I know you dont close down 45 min early on a Friday night. Sure the coffees good but there are other good coffee places that wont stare me down to leave because the appreciate the business and wont be rude. I wont be going back to Book Club Cafe.
