Entering the restaurant for dinner, there was no one to greet us at the door. The host was sitting in a booth and saw us enter, but did not want to get up from the booth. He even looked around to see if anyone else would greet us. Since no other server was around, he actually gave a sigh while standing up to ask us how many in the party. He then proceeded to set up our table while we waited around it. He pulled off chairs with tears in the seat from a stack. I also noticed that the many of the booth seats were also torn. Overall the place is a hole in the wall. If you are expecting service like most other restaurants, think twice. The service here is fairly typical of any South Indian restaurant. Courtesy is not their forte. Their focus is mainly on acquiring your order, keeping your glasses filled with water and delivering your food to the table, which is not a bad thing either. However, courtesy and proper mannerism can go a long way with customers. I found the appetizers to be just okay in taste. The chutneys on the other hand were no where near the quality expected from a seasoned South Indian restaurant. Two of the dosas I ordered were borderline burnt. The rasam soup they provided complementary was extremely salty and spicy. The sambar that comes with the dosas were very watery and lacking flavor. The dosas also lacked the flavor most likely due to the type of oil they use. I requested "gunpowder chutney", and they delivered a form of chutney made from uncooked minced lentil and seriously spicy peppers. Most gunpowder chutnies are of a finer powder and granularity, which was missing from this offering. I gave the Gobi Manchurian a thumbs up. It had flavor and the right level of spice. The baby corn masala dish had a decent sauce, but doesnt make sense to add baby corn to a cream curry. Baby corn should be made crispy with a very light Manchurian sauce. The tandoori chappati was also decent. Speed of delivering the appetizers was slower than I would have preferred. Silverware was fairly clean. Ive tried a number of South and North Indian restaurants in Plano offering dosas, and the only one I found to be consistent and flavorful up to now is the Taj Chaat House in Plano.

Today, I was at Udipi Café in Richardson TX with a few friend for a cup of coffee, and we have often gone to the venue for an afternoon cup of coffee. The restaurant was semi-busy for lunch buffet. When we arrived, 3-4 tables were available and there was not wait. We order coffees and were chit chatting as we waited. The owner, approached us about 5 minutes after we ordered to let us know to help ourselves to the buffet. We told him we have placed an order for the coffees and are waiting. He was extremely annoyed at that point and rudely told us that it will a while before we get our order of 3 coffees. He paced back and abruptly interrupted our conversation and told us that he will provide us with coffees to go. Well we had not ordered coffees to go and at that point his rudeness and annoyance went up to next level. We walked out after being insulted in front of all other patrons. As we walked out, again, there were about 5 tables empty and a family of 3 was waiting to be seated. I do like their coffee and we as a group have dined and hung out there many times. It was not busy and there were tables available when we arrived and when we left. However, even if the restaurant was completely full the owner should know better than to treat customers in this manner!!! He pretty much kicked us out when he offered us coffees to go!!!! The food is ok, but not that good to be treated and insulted in this way by the owner himself. Some example he is setting for his staff!! The service is not always to the par and the food is not always consistent. They have served me incorrect orders a number of times. However this was the last straw!!! The service is UNACCEPTABLE!! This is by far the worst service I have experienced!! They really needs to allow negative start review!!! I would give this restaurant negative 5 for humiliation we experienced!!! This is not how your treat you loyal customers Mr. Owner!!!

Ive had similarly bad experiences as some of the reviewers. I am seated and then... Nothing. I literally have to flag someone down to order drinks, appetizers, food, get the check, refills, everything. 1 time they actually mopped the floor while we were eating about about 5pm. Nothing like the smell of dirty mop water to enhance a dining experience. After 3 similar visits we have come to the conclusion that they dont want us there and will not return. I assumed it was racial since Ive noticed other Indians getting better service but, the reviews indicate otherwise. If it was racial, I could understand. As is, I have no explanation as to why their service is so consistently non-existent. I even tipped well the first couple times to potentially grease the wheel. No luck. Ill satisfy my Indian cravings elsewhere. Oh yea, the food was ok. The only thing that I can vouch for being "good" is the mango Lassi and gobi manchurian. Basically, dont eat there. Go across the highway and eat at gopal. Its a hole in the wall that is much closer to home cooking(read: has flavor) with much better service. They will make you feel like they are happy youre there... Not inconvenienced.

This is perhaps the best Indian food in Dallas. Particularly, for connoisseurs of south Indian (Karnataka/Carnatic) cuisine of the vegetarian kind. The taste is very close to the udipi/woodlands restaurants that abound in Bangalore/Mysore/Mumbai. Though we visited this restaurant on a religious holiday, the management was gracious to accommodate our peculiar dietary sensibilities ( no onion/garlic). This would be a good place to take your colleagues who have been shy about Indian food. The food is not spicy, the stuff is kosher, you dont have to worry about the hygiene, and its ok on the wallet. To those who know about Indian food, we did not find much baking soda in the food to cause a rumble. A good place for people who are strictly vegetarian and observant. This is a restaurant even my orthodox grandma would approve. Try the Dosa varieties it is oh so South Canara.

They refused me to serve express lunch, thali..Reason being its not served during buffet timings. 1. They have served me the same before during buffet timing. 2. The server didnt refuse at the first place. Took the order, then came back and told me the same. He was not new in the restaurant. If thali cant be served, he could have told me instantly while taking the order. He didnt do so. 2. They serve buffet during daytime.. if lunch thali cant be served, why at all name it Lunch thali? Seemed they dint have more people for buffet..Hence to force me for buffet, they refused serving lunch thali..Highly unprofessional.
