LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - There are dozens of critical violations on the Food for Thought menu this week - including mouse droppings at a repeat low performer. KCBD NewsChannel 11s Christy Hartin serves up the scores. We begin at Hong Kong at 4845 50th. Health inspectors found 13 critical violations. Mouse droppings were found in the dry storage area. Raw beef and eggs were above the safe cold temperature of 41 degrees. Multiple items on the buffet - chicken strips, chicken wings, crab and shrimp - were not at least 135 degrees. An employee did not wash their hands before putting on gloves. Employees uncovered drinks were in the food prep area. Raw peanuts and cashews were thrown out because they came from an unidentified source. Many cans were heavily dented. This can lead to botulism. Employees handled ready-to-eat green beans and onions with their bare hands. Raw beef was stored above ready-to-eat items. Heavily soiled scoops were stored in containers with dry goods. Numerous ready-to-eat food items did not have a date mark. Buffet plates were cracked and damaged, and other kitchen items were dirty. A spray bottle of cleaner was not labeled.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Lubbock. The food is always kept fresh and there is a decent variety with certain staples always there. The food is made by actual Chinese people, which I think helps maintain the very consistent quality of the food. Every time I go there the experience is exactly the same as the last, and I mean that in a good way. Servers are always friendly and quick to fill up a drink or take an old plate away. The interior is a tad bit dated and you can tell the carpet has been in there for quite some time, but frankly I dont care. There are better looking places in Lubbock, but the quality of the food sucks compared to Hong Kong. My only complaint is that I would really like to see egg foo young, dim sum/steamed dumplings, and chop suey offered in the buffet as I consider those to be the sort of universal dishes when I think Chinese food.

Where do I begin.....the lady in the front is very rude, dont say hi or Thank you, just takes your money..its called being nice lady,we are the ones that keep them doors open! The food was cold, the boiled eggs, ranch and enchiladas tasted very bad. I thought maybe it was me and my tastebuds acting up but nope,my son and husband said everything tasted bad. My hubby waited over an hour for crab legs. We all are very sick, throwing up and the runs. We called to complain but got the rude lady up front and she didnt care, all she said was you eat here and already paid so we cant do nothing for you. I will never eat there again! Everyone is so rude and food is bad

I will never go there again. It wasnt the food. It was the fact that because my family and I are Black. We were actually charged $1 extra per adult buffet. The Friday night special on the flyers at the register clearly advertised 12.99. However we were charged 13.99. Even after I asked the hostess about the pricing she stated no no its not 12.99 , its 13.99. Rather than argue with her choose to paid and never ever go again. See its little things like that , that are small that pile on to the multiple ways Blacks are still discriminated against. Sad but true.

We went for the buffet. Bland, not fresh, and not good. Several of the dishes on the buffet were npt as warm as they should have been. The decor was outdated and dirty. We never got a refill on our drinks, but that was not a great loss because the tea was terrible. There were flies buzzing around in the dining area. I saw a live roach while I was in the restroom. Honestly surprised that neither of us got sick after eating here. Never going here again.

Dirty, smelly, gross. If you want cheap seafood and thats all youre gonna eat. Go for it. I was not interested in the least. Could not stand the sight of the nasty carpet. There was a horrible smell coming from the kitchen and it wasnt fish either! The bathroom floor was sticky all over and the doors were too. Amazed my family didnt get sick. They loved the crab legs, oysters (frozen), octopus, clams, and fish heads.

First time in, and automatically I notice its very dirty. The food was a 2 out of 10, meat/chicken was over cooked, salad bar tasted very unfresh as well, I bit into a crouton & it was soft/mushy. Service was good, but the conditions of the food were just unacceptable. To top it off, I get to the counter and it was $32 for TWO PEOPLE. A buffet.?!? Had a terrible experience and will definetly not be returning.

I used to come to this place all the time. It used to be great. But, now it is wayyyy below par. If you are into medoicre Chinese buffet food, hit this place up. Also, the whole resteraunt smells like immitation crab. However, I will probably be back because I LOVE the noodles they use for their lo mein. But, I love crappy, processed food so take this statement with a grain of salt.

If I could give it less stars I would. Came at in at 5:30 to a buffet line with half of food out/dried up and the other half mushy and not fresh. Half the tables were dirty and the restaraunt is just old and dated. I did not got back for a second plate after regretting the first. The jello and roast with potatoes and carrots were the only thing passing as "good."

This is hands down the worst restaurant of any kind that I have ever been to. Most of the food looked like it had been setting there all day. It was revolting. My boyfriend and I went for diner and both felt sick to our stomachs afterwards. The only positive comments I have are that the staff was very attentive and nice, and the steamed rice was done well.

This was one of the worst eating experiences of my life. The quality of chicken was far below par. I dont see how anyone writing a review on here gave the food quality over poor. I literally ate one plate of food before pushing it aside and having ice cream for dinner. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! you will spend the next day on the toilet.

Walked in and right out. Restrooms were really gross and the smell came out into the seating area. I walked by the food for some hope on the place but nothing looked appetizing. Food was looking dry and old. Hardly anyone was in the restaurant either. Dont go. Decided to head to Beijing house down the road and I am satisfied
