I have visited El Comal since I moved to Irving back in 2000. It is a great place to do lunch, have a beer and hang out. It is quite during the day and that is just my style. The weekend nights are super busy and lots of live music, mariachis and a club atmosphere. Great too if you are into that. I had a bad experience not too long ago where I took my elderly, disabled mother to dinner with a family friend who was in from El Paso. I wanted him to have authentic Mexican food and thought El Comal would impress him. I was wrong. Unfortunately, I forgot my mothers wheelchair and she has a very hard time getting around. It took about 5-7 minutes for her to get from the parking lot into the restaurant and then she had to go to the bathroom. It was early Friday evening so there was a lot of traffic going in and out of the restaurant in preparation for the rest of the night. The closest seat to the door was a giant booth that said "reserved" on it. An older spanish speaking waitress greeted us and after telling her I was going to take my mother to the bathroom, she said to come back to the booth and have a seat there. Well, going to the bathroom was a twenty minute ordeal and when we finally made it back, my mother was exhausted from walking by this point, a young English speaking waitress met us at the booth and said we would have to change seats because that booth was reserved for large parties. I told her the previous waitress had told us we could sit there and besides, my mother was tired and the closest open seat was across the restaurant and that was too much for her to bare. After arguing with her for a couple of minutes, she offered no apologies. I decided to bluff her and told her that I was told we could sit there and if not, we would just go ahead and leave. She said that was fine. She called my bluff and I ended up having to leave before our family friend could even meet us there. I was hurt and disappointed. I called the manager, Fernando, about a week later after my emotions subsided. He listened to my story in its totality, apologized sincerely and asked for the opportunity to make it right. I told him my mother and I would come back and ask for him. When we went back, he greeted us warmly and sat and chatted with us. Before he left, he informed us that our meal and drinks would be complimentary and that we would always be welcomed at El Comal. I did suffer a bad experience there but Fernando redeemed El Comal. I have been going there since 2000 and will keep frequenting this place for its inexpensive beer, good authentic Mexican food and its quiet atmosphere during the week. Its a preferred hang out for my mother and I and we highly reccommend it.

Delicious! Dont think about it and just go. My friend and I were hesitant about going due to other reviews, but were both glad we went. I guess reviews depend on how picky you are, but the food is super good, made just LIKE HOME (if youre Mexican), and their daily lunch specials are extremely competitive and reasonable compared to other restaurants in the area. We are definitely going back! Why not 5 stars? The location, its far from work and home and I wish it was more on its own than in a shopping center place.

This place is disgusting! The food was horrible and people are even worse! This must be one of the worst experiences I have had dining out. There was a woman who changed her babys diaper right on top of the table in front of everyone. I have kids of my own and I would never do something like this especially in a restaurant! And even after they left, the waitress DID NOT clean off the table! BAD FOOD AND BAD SERVICE ALONG WITH DISGUSTING PEOPLE!!! DO NOT EAT HERE!

Went for lunch today with my friend and we were so glad we decided to ignore some of the other reviews and give this place a try! The food was really good and the portion size was also nice. We both had the lunch special and the price was great!! The only thing I did not like was I had decided to buy some of the Mexican candy they had at the counter and that was way overpriced. Overall experience was good though and we will definitely go back again.

Food & service were very good but the overpriced margarita had no tequila in it that I could tell.

I ordered their tortilla soup and entomatadas fritas. The queso fresco in the entomatadas was cut into a block, not shredded. So when you bite into it, youre just biting into a thick block of cheese. AND, the tortilla soup had more soggy tortilla than chicken. The tortillas werent fried, and should have been packaged separate. (See photos I added to this location.)

The food was disgusting, I had high hopes for this place because it smelled so good from the outside, and the decor was nice. A waitress not on Valium might have slightly improved matters, but I say do not waste your money.

Excellent Mexican food! Authentic! Chips & salsa are good and at lunch time they give you a small cup of soup with your appetizer. Food portions are good. They have live music (usually 1 person) on the weekends.

The mango margarita is worth coming here for all on its own, but theres certainly nothing wrong with the food, either. Happy hour would be a great time to knock back a number of cocktails here!

Didnt speak english really. Brought shredded cheese instead of bowl of queso. Chicken fajita chimichanga only had rice n chicken. Carne Quisada tasted like stew. Was not good!

The first dish didnt taste good but thankfully the owner came out and gave me another dish with no problem. The second dish was good and I was satisfied.

I ordered their Carne Guisado for lunch. It looks like it came from a can and it was not even warm. It was good but its not really that great.
