Best coffee in town hands down. That being said, I use to recommend and/or take my clients here when they came in from out of town. After my last three stops here I no longer recommend people to Siphon after being embarrassed by their customer service or lack there of in front of my clients. I only stop in to pick up a bag of coffee grounds now. Heres whats been observed, not including what my clients have experienced. 1. A client of mine flew into town so we of course came here (he has an awesome craft coffee place Dichotomy where he comes from that hes obsessed with)! There was a long line waiting to order with one gentleman being very helpful but the lady standing next to him at the register and while everyone else was running around busy could not be bothered to stop playing Pokemon Go long enough to help anyone. My client got so annoyed he jumped on the game "to play against her" hoping that if she lost at Pokemon Go maybe she would start helping. Nope, she kept on playing oblivious to customers waiting on her and starting to discuss amongst other in line that this must be a joke. 2. The very next time I came in with a client we were passing through and my client got a black coffee to go. He was unimpressed that the cup was willingly delivered to a customer about 60% filled. 3. The very next time I visited after these two incidents I was only stopping in the get two honey lattes to go to surprise my wife when I walked in the door. After ordering at sat at the front window bar to wait playing on my phone. After awhile of waiting and a couple orders ahead of me having gone out but no more orders going out I started paying attention to the two baristas who were laughing it up and talking. The polite gentleman who checked me out noticed I was now looking for my coffee, he followed up with the two girls who apparently didnt even know my order ticket was waiting to be filled, they to my shock went back to chatting it up joking around even after he asked about my order. Then the cook put a food order in the window and rang a bell they have. The two baristas ignored this and continued. A few minutes later the cook put another food order in the window, and rang the bell. They again ignored this. This continued until the cook sat there and kept slapping the bell over and over out of annoyance. After the food was finally called out for the customers to pick up the baristas started on my order. The guy at the register who was paying attention to all of this had to remind the baristas when they were done that the ticket they hadnt bothered to read was to go and they had prepped it for in house consumption. After being baffled three times in a row and these scenarios just adding up I simply just avoid Siphon until I need more coffee grounds and no long tell clients about Siphon. Hopefully this changes and they go back to the quality customer service I know and love because Siphon is a great hang out spot with amazing food! Too long didnt read : their coffee and food are amazing , but the customer service has been a joke as of lately.

Its an inspiring thing when a shop can perfectly pull off food, drink, personnel and atmosphere. Siphon is one of those shops. There are plenty of fresh baked goods, desserts, snacks and a drink cooler with some off the beaten path beverages. If youre really hungry, they serve breakfast/lunch/dinner with an impressive menu of tacos/sandwiches/salads and more. On top of all that, a full coffee + tea menu awaits your selection. I am NOT one to enjoy coffee. Ill drink it, and Ill try many types, but its not something I am passionate about. However, I enjoyed a straight black Siphon For Two. My wife thought it was too bitter, but theres something pure and unique that caught my taste buds, and I thoroughly enjoyed it by myself. From banana bread to moon pies, I havent been disappointed with their baked goods. In fact, the lemon tart was right up there with Grandma Buchers infamous lemon treats. A taste of home, for sure. 1 thing I love about Siphon: There is a feeling of excellence in everything they do here. Everything in this shop is made and maintained with the utmost care and creativity. Like I mentioned earlier, its inspiring. 1 thing I dislike about Siphon: There are never enough places to sit. All three visits have resulted in squeezing onto the bar stools (stylish, but not comfortable in the least). Couches and booths are ALWAYS full. In the heart of a Montrose neighborhood, this coffee shop is definitely a crucial artery of said heart. The meer fact of the existence of Siphon beckons my wife and I to move into the area. But since we live in the Sugar Land area, we are hoping for a satellite shop to open up near us instead!

What is so great about Siphon and I mean this as a compliment, is that they have done everything the way Starbucks should have done it but missed opportunities. First. The ambience. The Siphon team has created a wonderful place to camp out if one needs to, with free wi-fi, comfortable chairs, excellent food options, resulting in a place that is more like your home away home. If there were showers and beds you might not need to leave. Kidding. And...they have alcohol! Yay! Now, the original Starbucks concept was just this. Create a beautiful and comfortable environment for people to enjoy their morning coffee like some of the coffeehouses the original owners visited in Roma. Now, some would say this is not a great business model. In that people will nurse that one cup of coffee while using the free wifi and restrooms, etc. But I disagree. I think that those people will be there, but the majority will just be there for a short and pleasant time. And look forward to their next visit. Next, whereas Starbucks decided to go with an over roasted, dark almost charcoal roast (how much great coffee has been ruined by Starbucks aka Charbucks? The mind boggles), the owners of Siphon opted to go with local artisan roasters for their coffee and/or bring in nationally acclaimed coffee. Currently there are big bags of Stumptown on the shelves (I am a happy guy). Next, they brought in a new technology, the siphon, which is bringing in a "fun" aspect to your morning coffee. All in all, this is a five star place in my opinion. I recommend it.

I decided to go here for Mothers Day and enjoy a latte with my sister. From the moment we walked in the staff was non-inviting. No smiles, no thank you. We ordered 2 soy chai lattes, a quiche and banana nut bread. After waiting for 20 minutes for our banana nut bread, the gentleman at the register checked on it & told us it wouldnt be ready for another 20 minutes, but being informed something we ordered would take 40m is something youd think wed be told to us upfront. He told me I could order something else and to look at the desserts they had in the front (which was just macaroons) & walked away. I had to ask another worker about their desserts & and she just stared at me while giving me 2 macaroons that I settled for. It was uncomfortable and I felt like I was bothering them through our entire experience. Unfortunately you tip when you place the order and not after, so I got to pay extra to "bother" this duo. I then had to order food for my bf to go. The same gentleman at the register rang up a cold brew but handed me a hot coffee. I told him it was mistaken so he just added ice to it... i wanted to love this place. My family is supported by Montrose small business, but Ive never felt so unwelcomed at a coffee shop in my life. I felt like I was in a Portlandia skit about coffee snobs, who hate their jobs. Theres too many coffee shops in our neighborhood for this to ever be acceptable.
