The waiter ruined my evening. We were a group of about 15 that night at Mazaj. When we started ordering, we informed the waiter that we want our checks separately. He refused! We tried to understand why exactly, but he wouldn’t give a straight answer, and instead offered to break us down into groups of 4!!! We asked him whether it’s that he “can’t” do it or that he “won’t”? Because it seemed that he just didn’t feel like it. He continued being vague and so we reluctantly agreed. Then, a friend had brought with him a board game, and we pulled it out to play. The waiter came to say that the owner does not allow board games. Now I am more than happy to follow the rules set by any establishment I visit. So I said to the waiter, that’s fine, we will respect your rules, but please inform the owner that not allowing board games and no check splitting will be going into my review of this place. His rude response was the kicker. He said: take out your phone right now and write whatever you like! (this is translated from Arabic, not verbatim, and so does not convey the rude manner in which he addressed me). When it was time to request the checks, which he had offered to divide into groups of 4, we were shocked to receive one big check for the whole table! We were required to leave our lively conversations and pour over the one check, trying to decipher it and decide who ordered what. I was livid, and went looking for the owner. Now, granted, the owner, Eddie, as well as manager Ma’moun, were much more pleasant than the waiter. They were gracious, understanding, and handled the situation to our satisfaction. So I have to acknowledge that they were able to improve the tone of the evening. But by that time, it was almost midnight, and my whole evening had already been ruined by the waiter. I had decided not to go there again, but after speaking to Eddie and Ma’moun, I believe I can give Mazaj a second chance. Otherwise, they have an overall comfortable atmosphere. the ambiance of the outdoor area is nice, with gentle lighting and a fountain in the middle. Indoor there was a band, which was loud, so it would be fun if you are not planing to have a conversation. The music outside was quieter and allowed for conversation. I only had Sahlab (a famous Mediterranean drink) which was good. Those of us who ate said the food was OK, but the three of us who tried the hooka found it lacking. Valet parking is complimentary.

Terrible service, waited 45 minutes for someone to serve us, we even called them over a few times and they ignored. The charge 18% tip for over 6 people but dont tell you about it till the bill comes( you have to mention it in your menu, which they didnt) food was ok , very over priced. Waited a long time for the food. Ordered tea and didnt get it until I asked 3 diffrent people. Plus they were talking to each other and on their PHONES, ignoring the customers that were there waiting on their lazy assess.

Some comments made me laugh.. people who were talking about the service, maybe, it is not the service. They are just giving you bad SERVICE because they didnt like your attitude or arrogance, or its message for you to understand that ( dont come here again.. You are not welcome)... ;) __ Another thing... PUT TIPS.. Dont be cheap. Waiters are not gonna work for you for 3 hours or more for free !!! Be a nice and good customer, waiters are gonna love you and take care of you.

Bad food, overpriced. They charge for everything including water and gratuity regardless of the number of people at the table. Plus when ordering turkish coffee most Mediterranean places will charge you per coffee pot. This place charges per cup so if you ask for an extra cup they will double the price even though you are still only getting one pot of coffee! Make no sense! If at least the food was good I would come here again but the meat was a dissapointment.

Worst service ever, the food is okay.. the waiters have the worst attitude Ive ever seen in my life. Also, they tips themselves without even asking. I Gave them a $100 once cause i didnt have change and they ended up taking it and not give the rest back. Extremtly disrepectful looks when you come in, not even a smile or greeting to make you love the place. Will never visit it again!! I dont recommend anyone to go there at ALL.

When compared to similar places. The place is more expensive and quality of food is less Dirty bathroom and God knows about the kitchen. !!! The place is mostly for smokers ,so of you do not smoke you will be getting all the Hookah and charcoal smokes. NOT GOOD AT ALL. THEY INCLUDE GRATUITY ON THE BILL EVEN ON SMALL TABLES. ( a table of 2 ) can you believe that sh**) .

They moved locations and it seats more people. The outside deck is gorgeous and they have a giant screen where they project sporting events and whatnot. Still the same service as the old location, which is hit or miss depending on your server. When it hits, it hits. But man when it misses, it MISSES. Still 5 stars though because this is the best hookah place Ive been to

I used to like going to this place... but now it looks like they got to big for themselves.. and now service SUCKS really bad.. asked one waiter to change the channel to soccer and within 10 mins of the match it went to basketball which i think the manager was the only one watching.. i thought the saying was CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS RIGHT.. but i guess not in this place..

Terrible place. Service is horrible, hookah is no good, food is terrible, they charge gratuity whether youre by yourself or with 4 people (which is illegal). What can I say, typical middle eastern hookah cafe ran by terrible management. Not surprised. Go to Nara on Fondren, way better. Btw, some of the good reviews are people who work for the joint... shame

Ive been there plenty of times. Food is wonderful and the hookah is too. Its never boring. Music singers big screen projector. The only thing I would have to say is that they need more waiters and they need to be more attentive. Every time I go its a long wait weather its busy or not. All in all good place.

This place is nice and very clean. But the issue is the price of the menu is very high. Many other places have better service with cheaper prices. Another issue is that the waiters always charge us with gratuity tip with letting us know. And we end up paying the tip twice for no reason.

Usually have a good experience at this restaurant but the service can be inconsistent. The breakfast is fantastic but the chicken shawerma is nothing to get excited about. Decent place to take the family for Sunday brunch if the weather is nice and enjoy a hookah with good food.
