Nerdvana Food+Spirits is a great new restaurant and addition to the Frisco area. The menu is high-end Contemporary American and is a very diverse look at the countrys cuisine - spanning melt sandwiches and salads to comfort food (deconstructed gumbo, fried steak medallions over mashed potatos and fresh corn), even up to steakhouse quality ribeyes and pork chops. They run a scratch kitchen - the ingredients are always fresh and never frozen, including the meat which I hear Chef Mike butchers himself. The drink menu is equally as impressive, with cocktails and beers to suit any taste. They only offer craft beer and rotate some of them regularly among the local breweries. The staff is prompt, attentive, and professional. One of the co-owners who visited with us told us they were trained in more of a "California-style" serving technique, where silverware is replaced at every step of the meal and the entire wait staff works as a team to ensure a great experience for the customers. The food is delivered hot so it can be enjoyed the way it was intended. The atmosphere and decor is spot on for a restaurant and bar self-proclaimed "Nerdvana". The waiting area is adorned with small video screens depicting familiar characters from popular video games and an impressive 3D installation on one wall that displays a cast of the internal components from video game consoles past and present. The custom artwork on the walls subtly displays famous scenes from gaming such as the 1st level of Super Mario Bros. and the characters that inhabit famous games. Monitors around the bar display live E-Sports, Twitch streams, or quick games of Fifa or Rocket League that patrons are playing. There are also dedicated areas to sit down and play video games with friends. The menu cleverly replaces "salads" and "sandwiches" with "expansions" and "handhelds" and has gaming-inspired names for their drinks and some of their dishes. There are also viewing parties for large E-Sports events and I hope they add live gaming tournaments to their aspirations. Parents with children (which I am) be warned that this is obviously a restaurant/bar. The bar is large and right in the middle of the space, surrounded by tables and booths. There is no kids menu, although the kitchen will obviously work with you (Ive heard the onion melt with no onions is a delicious grilled cheese). Dont expect to let your children run around and play video games while you eat. This isnt Chuck-E-Cheese. However, if you go in with the right expectations it is still a great place to eat as a family. After we ate we sat down with our 5 and 3 year olds and played Mario Kart for about a half hour. They loved it. (Ive since been told that playing video games has been restricted to those 17 and older and the consoles have been relocated from the 2 lounge areas due to the carelessness of some disrespectful patrons) If youre looking for a great place to sit down, eat great food, have fantastic drinks, and relax and play video games with your friends and family, look no further.

WOW. I cant believe this place has such great reviews. I am so bummed. We came here for my birthday dinner with the kids, (we dont play games, but thought it would be fun for the kids) It was late on a Sunday. Not busy, but horrible. I mean HORRIBLE service. First of all when we got there we were asked what game system table we wanted. We asked, "well what games are on them?" We were told they didnt know. So we had to pick based on not knowing what games or anything. There was no instruction, no knowledge of their products... Then it came to the food. The crab cakes. Not good at all, but my husband loved the burger. However the ranch is horrible. Off brand hidden valley, and the garlic aioli! What? It was horrible. The kids liked their stuff ok. The food was actually the only reason we gave two stars instead of one. Okay so the game table.... our remotes were given but one didnt work. It wasnt charged. We were told no more were available because the batteries were dead and each remote is synced to a certain system. It took us telling them 15 minutes later. "Well how about just change batteries from another tables remotes and let them charge?" We were told "oh wow we didnt think of that, we arent smart". But thats okay. No biggie.... but then my daughter didnt like her food so we wanted to trade it out and she took her food but forgot To ring the new food in...... then there was a table across from us watching you tube funny videos So the kids saw it and we asked, how to get that and we were told "oh I dont know how they are on that, they arent supposed to be." Okay awesome. But she didnt go make sure they turned it off. she did apologize for forgetting the food and Im not angry with the server. But obviously a lot of things to be worked out. Maybe we will give it a second try. Maybe not. :/.

Video Games with Dinner. You had me at video games. Dont get this confused with Nerdvanna Coffee. Two separate places, same name. You cant drink alcohol on the coffee side. The coffee said is relaxed, has board games and is a typical coffee shop. The spirits side has video games with a full restaurant and bar. The staff and experience was nice and pleasant. The bartenders were very helpful and friendly. After discussing with them on this amazing idea, they recommended the Chicken Bites around 9 dollars. It was great. I love the chicken bites. They also had many beers on draft. Sadly, the Money Crunch was not available, but I got a Beer called Farie Dust from Seattle, WA to try and at 8.2 percent alcohol content. Yeah, I got 5 more along with Bass Bites. That was just as good as the chicken bites. Happy hour was from 4 to 630PM. Prices were half off and that helped out with the beer. I met a group of 6 on Thursday night and it was not busy, but other nights may need reservations. Just give them a call. The philosophy at spirit is mid-range, and some of the prices are quite high. Looking at you steak dinner. But, they believe in farm to table, fresh daily concept and it shows in the food. The bar sits in the middle with games above you and some tables have games in the booths while others do not. We are at a nintendo game console and I am not into nintendo. So, that was a bust. Most games were sports. Overall, it was a great place to meet friends, date or family.

It is a "nerdvana" for video games! My first visit there on April 26,I2017 was phenomenal. The food is on the pricey side but it is quite savory. The restaurant is accompanied by a very unique aesthetic. Theres a video game console from every generation and TV to every single booth. One of the first questions they actually ask you is what console youre looking to play. Lets also talk about the huge bar in the middle of the room upon entering. Huge TVs all around the bar are accompanied by HD gaming from the all the latest consoles. If youre seated at a booth near the bar like I was, you get to watch your drinks be made if youre not already distracted by the game at your table. My server, Heather, was probably the best server Ive ever had and I heard shes only been a server for a few months. The girl is a natural. Shes very knowledgeable about the menu as well as some of the video games. Wonderful person to chat with. She also informed me about their brunch that they have on the weekends from about 10am to 4pm if I remember correctly so I definitely wanna come back. Would recommend this place to other fellow nerds and gamers looking to grab dinner and a video game at the same time. Perfect place for a date or even a birthday dinner with your closest friends. Rumor has it that Gearbox Software, the makers for the Borderlands series among other games, recently relocated to somewhere above the restaurant.
