Ive been going to Sweet Georgia Browns for umpteen years. Am acquainted with the owner and most the employees. The food is the greatest. Ive seen people come all the way from Alaska to eat their food. Many truckers, celebrities and Pro athletes frequent the place. I was blessed to take a photo with Hawthorne James (Big Red) from the movie "The Five Heart Beats". My son was blessed to get an autograph from a pro ball player. On most Sundays after church lets out the line goes outside the door and wraps around the corner of the building. Sometimes you have to park across the street cos the parking lot is full. The portions are so large until its too much to eat in one sitting. The greens, cabbage, black eyed peas, potato salad, yams, barbecue, mac and cheese, rice and gravy, fried chicken, fried pork chops, fried fish, smothered turkey, dressing, corn muffins, just to name a few items. The place may be small but it was an old burger king. When Walt started the business, the owner of the building let him use it rent free for the first year. Walt didnt even know how to cook soul food so he hired someone who could. He named the restaurant after his mother. He also sells his greens in the grocery stores. He once was a pro athlete who made it big but he squandered his money off. So after opening his restaurant. He made a vow to God that if he blessed his business that he would play his gospel music everyday. Well the proof is in the pudding. He has never failed to play Gods music and God blessed him financially. My family and I became homeless many years back and school was about to start and we had no place to go. I went to Walt and asked him if he could help us out. He reached in his pocket and handed me $200. He then spoke to his employees and told them to feed us and not charge us until we were able to get back on our feet. So for 30 days straight we were well fed. The $200 dollars gave us a roof over our head for about a week. Theres times he doesnt seem social because he has a lot on his mind. But he has a heart of gold and a great man to know. Ive often encouraged him back in the day to open another store but due to personal reasons he hasnt done it. They also do catering and they usually send staff down to work the Texas State Fair. Walt has a lot on his "PLATE" so to speak. I give this place a thumbs up and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I still pray for him and his staff.

It was my first time visiting this location and I didnt like my experience. The food was decent, but the service was bad. The two gentlemen who work the hotline are rude. They werent professional and dont know how to speak to guests. The first gentleman that serves the meat didnt smile and would say to guests, "Next, what you want?" What happened to, "What may I get for you today? When I went to go bag my food I realized that I didnt have a lid for my beans. So, I go back up to the hotline to ask the second gentlemen who provided the sides for a lid, and his response to me was so rude. He says, "Why are you up here asking me for? There are lids for that over there by the beverages?" I was shocked that he spoke to me like that. I didnt realize that there were lids by the beverages, but what really annoyed me was that he had lids right by him as well. I definitely wont be coming back to this place. Although these two gentlemen were rude, the woman who rings up the food was very nice. The two gentlemen could learn how to be more hospitable from her.

Best. Soul Food. Ever. I rarely write reviews, you have to really make an impression on me in order for me to write a review. I love this place! Its a little neighborhood hang out. Its older and obviously been there a long time. We walked in and could barely fit in because the line was so long. Then another couple came in behind us and commented how the line was not so bad. After that I figured it must be decent. Looking at the prices I thought it was kinda expensive for a little joint like this. Then I saw how much food I was getting and realized its a great deal! I asked for the BBQ sauce on the side. I am really picky about BBQ sauce. Its usually either too sweet or too tangy, so I always get it on the side just in case. After I tasted this sauce, I proceed to pour it all over my meat. It is the best BBQ sauce I have ever had! Highly recommend. Great place. Will definitely go back.

First time trying many of the sides, i ordered the ribs and not only were they tender, juicy and perfectly bbqd but they give you a pretty good portion(6-8 6" meaty pieces). I got broccoli and rice, mac n cheese and collard greens as my sides. They were good, the mac and cheese was great though! I also tasted my friends yams and Ill have to admit, the YAMS were delicious! They were sweet, flavorful and cooked to the point where they were tender but not mushy and soupy. The area is pretty ghetto(teens trying to get beer and a few crackheads) so i wouldnt go late in the evening, theyre isnt anything wrong with it but Im from out of town and it was just me and two other ladies. Overall, Its definitely a place you need to try! The food is great, the serving style is very casual as is the waitress (very nice lady btw) and the food is cooked as authentic as can be!

This is the best soul food and/or BBQ around. There are close to a dozen different "meats" to choose from (brisket, ribs, turkey necks, meatloaf, etc). Plates of food come with 3 sides and its a real struggle to narrow my choices down to just 3 from the twenty or so choices of sides. You can also do a sides only plate or the meats by the pound. I have never had anything that wasnt good here. Food is served in white styrofoam and the container barely closes, its so full of food. You could easily make at least 3 or 4 huge meals from one plate of food. Everyone Ive brought here has enjoyed themselves. Im thankful for the person who first introduced me to the place because Ive been plenty of times and its great. Oh and if you eat it in, theres a free help yourself soft serve ice cream machine for dessert. :-)

Long week this week and the family decided on getting some soul food and after looking at Yelp, I remembered that this place was ranked near the top. Once we got there, we stood in line for a few minutes until we ordered. We got 2 large (lol) one meat with 3 vegetable plates! I got the pork chop with Sweet potatoes, greens and black-eyes and my gf got the meatloaf with black-eyes, broccoli rice casserole along with some mashed potatoes. Everything was great and the service was up to par seeing that they woman working there knew we werent going to finish our food so she boxed it up so we could leave after we got full. You dont realize how good it feels to eat dinner around some good folks who want you to be happy with the food they serve. Good Job Sweet Georgia!
