I visited Braindead brewery tonight. I must say that I wasn’t completely impressed. I would recommend this place if you’re coming to have a beer with friends however, I do not recommend visiting Braindead for food. Overall I would say the food is way overpriced for the quality I received. My plate was $15 for the entree seemed skimpy and the sides seemed very stretched and mixed to make a little go a long way. FOR SURE NOT WORTH $15 PER PLATE! Upon arriving at the brewery seating was a challenge, we then got a very green but fairly good-looking waiter. There were 8 of us that went for dinner service, and I must say that the service was ok. I am cutting the young man some slack because he seemed new, and I understand it takes some time to catch on! First off, beware that unless you’re a fan of wild ingredients, there isn’t much on the menu that you will not have to them hold about half of what they are using to make it. After realizing the brisket tacos were fairly normal, I decided to go with these. Upon arrival, I was surprised to see there were only two of them rolled like a burrito and they were extremely skimpy on the filling. The sauce that came with them was extremely spicy but I have to say this did have a nice flavor. The beans seemed to be very soupy and like they had been blended equal parts of canned beans and water. I couldn’t use a fork at all to eat them they drained right in-between the tines and were VERY TASTELESS. Not to mention the beans I received, had a dropped french fry in the bottom of the bowl. This somewhat grossed me out. The rice was lacking in flavor and again seemed as if the kitchen was slacking on spice and ingredients to make a little go a long way and some kernels were very hardened and if the rice had been pre-prepped in the morning and sat under a heat lamp all day long. Some of my friends I was with ordered many appetizers, and I was able to try two of the 3 of them. I will say KUDOS on the brussels sprouts were AWESOME! The chips and queso were below par. It seemed to be thin and served with stale chips

Im not really a fan of their house beers. The other stuff is much better. They dont have the biggest selection in town but its well curated and there are usually some really interesting picks. Problem is, they dont have proper drink menus, just a list on the wall and a handwritten board in the middle of the restaurant. They only give you names of beers and its up to you to guess the style/flavor/ingredients/etc. You either have to google everything on the menu or play Russian roulette and order something with a cool name. I believe theyve done this on purpose, the servers want to you tell them what you like so they can make suggestions or choose for you. I really dont want a pushy waiter trying to guess my preferences and would just like to make an informed decision myself. Furthermore on all three of my visits, there were no prices listed and the servers were EXTREMELY evasive about prices. Two times I flat out asked "How much is this beer?" and both times they said "Probably $6-7." In fact, one of these beers ended up being $9 and the other was $12. The prices are expensive across the board here and Im prepared for that when visiting, but the way they refuse to check pricing and the repeated wildly inaccurate estimates lead me to believe theyre flat out lying and expect customers to either just forget or end up so drunk that they dont inspect the bill. Ive usually visited on weekends when theyre really busy, so I expect things to take a while. But they are so wildly understaffed that service is unbelievably slow. It may be 15 minutes before someone comes to your table, drinks can take that long to arrive after ordering, servers are MIA afterwards, and I imagine a good number of people walk out on their tabs because it can take 20+ minutes to get your bill after asking for it. TLDR: Bad beer menu, no prices listed, deceptive servers, insane waits on service.

I agree with most of the reviews that the atmosphere is great. For the most part the service is okay...Yesterday I was there and there was a massive bee hive by the patio. The owners wife thought it was a good idea to have it removed during the middle of the day. The beekeeper arrived and proceeded to scrape the hide into a wine box without warning the crowd of spectators that the bees were going to go crazy when he scraped away the hive. About 15 people got stung including myself and a girl I was hanging out with. The owners wife came up to us afterwards and offered us drinks. We assumed because of the experience we had just had that the drinks were comped and it was pretty clearly implied by her offer. When we went to settle our bill for our drinks the beers we had ordered from the owners wife were charged to us. We complained to our server and he went up to her in plain sight of us. The owners wife acted like there was no way that we could have mistaken her offer as a comp. The point is this place has quite a bit to learn about running a customer service oriented business particularly in the food/beer service industry. You do not create a sustainable business from one time customers, you create it by those customers continuing to return to your establishment. After this experience I am dissuaded from going back to Braindead. I hope they figure it out because they clearly have a great concept.

On our second visit to Braindead, i felt our experience was adequate to give a proper review. So, with no further ado. I give you. Our Braindead experience... The beer selection isnt vast or wide but it is unique and constantly rotating. This may be a nuisance to some but its an admirable virtue to me. The ales, ciders and barley wines are superb. And the sandwiches... now, my other half wasnt too impressed with the Brined Chicken but i believe she had a taste for the TABLE sandwich. Rightly so, the flavors didnt match the anticipation but the sandwich was good. A tangy bite with a little sweetness and just the right amount of salt. My Cuban on the other hand was so tender i could have been missing my near perfect teeth and still bitten clean through to enjoy the fantastic melange of flavor squeezed into each savory mouthful. The fries are excellent and the sweet potato chips are fresh and light. Its a great place and our future trips to Deep Ellum will certainly include Braindead Brewing.

Really liked this place but knocked it a star because our waiter didnt seem to want to be there or answer our questions. It was our first time in and my husbands birthday. Got a menu but drinks werent listed. As far as we could tell they were only on a chalkboard dimly lit by Christmas lights across the room. It was still hard to read when we stood right in front of it (were in our early 30s with good eyesight). Basically we had to completely rely on what our waiter said and we had to go round and round with him which frustrated all of us. Either a printed drink menu or a more well lit chalkboard with some info wouldve avoided this. Eventually we ordered a flight of 5 beers, 4 core Braindead beers and one other. Enjoyed it, so we ordered the picadillo queso and later had the brisket chili with cornbread while we ordered a few more full beers. We had a great time in spite of a few issues that the company could easily fix.
